Also, make sure you have good pillows, and maybe you could try to flip your mattress. If none of that works, your best bet might be sleeping pills. hope i helped! Karen answered Tuesday April 5 2005, 3:52 pm: To get a better night's sleep, try taking a bath so you will feel relaxed, listen to a CD that has nature sounds, drink tea, don't eat or drink anything that has sugar, don't exercise, and try reading (it makes me tired at night and I fall asleep) when you are in your bed, about to go to sleep. You can also try sleeping on your side, instead on your back or vice versa. Wearing comfortable pajamas help. All of these things should help you sleep better. esbeautiful1313 answered Tuesday April 5 2005, 3:41 pm: This use to happen to me as well, so I know just how you feel. I don't know if they will work, but try these few tips:
1)Go to sleep at the same time each night. Your body will eventually recognize this pattern, probably making it easier to fall asleep.
2)Avoid caffeine for at least 8 hours before you go to bed.
3)Do not watch tv or go on the computer right before you go to sleep, becasue they cause brain stimulation.
4)Read in bed until you feel sleepy.
5)Have a little snack, such as (this may sound funny) warm milk or turkey (they have natural sleep inducers called L-tryptophan).
6)Don't exercise right before bed, the morning is a better time.
7)Avoid emotional upset or stressful situations prior to bedtime, or you will think about them and not be able to fall asleep.

karenR answered Tuesday April 5 2005, 12:43 pm: I too suffer occasionally from the my brain will not shut up syndrome!
I have tried this simple thing with some success...Turn around and sleep with head at the foot end of the bed. Sounds stupid but it does work. Must be the change in location...don't know. But, it does work. [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]

Drink warm milk, and listening to soothing music very low. ♥ Kristen [ ballerina04's advice column | Ask ballerina04 A Question ]
zapreth answered Tuesday April 5 2005, 10:49 am: This is coming from a chronic insomniac: I can't sleep because my brain won't shut off. I've tried long drives, alcohol, sleeping pills(useless), chamomile tea, warm milk, chocolate, pasta, turkey, reading, chatting online, and damn near anything else you can think of. What has worked best for me however is a CD called Aqua Neuva by a latin artist named Christian (given to me by an ex-roomate in college). I don't know Spanish so I'm not distracted from sleep by thinking about the lyrics, it's soft music and the man has a pleasant, smooth voice. I don't why it works when nothing else does. Good Luck! BeautifulMadness answered Tuesday April 5 2005, 10:09 am: Drink either some chamomile tea or some warm milk with honey and a little bit of cinnamon before you go to bed to relax you. You could also have a bath with lavender bubble bath or salts to relax you. Try not to eat, especially foods high in protein, before you go to bed - like 3 hours before.
When you do get into bed, don't panic that you can't fall asleep or think, 'damn, I HAVE to get to sleep!' because that will just keep you awake. Just lie down calmy and think about something, anything that doesn't get you angry or whatever, something calm, or listen to a calming CD or a radio station that plays slow, quiet songs at night, and you'll eventually drop off.
Also make sure that you're not too warm or cold, your bed clothes are clean (if you have any allergies you don't know about, then dust mites could be causing you problems) (but remember not to wash stuff in too strong a detergent because the smell will keep you awake), you're not thirsty, and your PJs or nightie or whatever is comfy.
Blessed Be,
