Probably to numb the pain. Of course we all know that emotional pain can't be halped from the outside...

ok i have a story for you.
on st. patrics day, i put a green rubber band on my dog's arm, planning to take it off, but i forogt about it. then, he started not walking on that leg for about a week, so we took him to the vet. the vet took x-rays and found thatthe rubber band had been on there. (yes, i felt bad and i know it was dumb)when you leave a rubber bad around something (hair, wrists, dog legs, etc.) it starts to cut into it. the girl that you saw probably had the rubberband (probably a small one) on there for a long period of time, causing it to cut into her skin. also, my snapping it on herself, it was probably less noticable than an atual cut. hope that answers your question.

I used to do this, actually.
The snapping of the rubberband creates a similiar sensation to a slashed wrist...the rush, the appearance, the release, etc. Usually large ugly welts appear if it's snapped good enough...and the "good" part about it is the welts disappear much quicker than cuts and scars from sharp objects.

hey
a rubber band hurts and it can lead to cutting because people do
it for the pain and the pain iscaused by stress an if they dont know how to handle stress then that is why they would have to get phyciatric help.

rubber bands are like a form of therapy..everytime they feel the urge to cut the snapp it i dont know exactly how the therapy works but a kid in my school has one for anger management and every time he is angry he snaps it.

the purpose is to stop cutting, you snap the rubber band instead. and it doesnt do anything bad, she probably had to go to the phyciatrist b/c that meant shes a cutter in recovery

Have you ever had someone take a rubber band and pull it back really far and snap it on your arm/leg/hand/etc? It hurts doesn't it? Instead of having scars left behind from cutting, you'll still get that same feeling of pain from snapping a rubber band on your wrist. I've seen it done before, they do it for the same reason why cutters cut. They're addicted to the pain. Although you are not harming yourself as bad as a cutter would, you're still hurting yourself which is why she needed psyciatric help for it. Hope this helped.

It snaps down onto your wrist.. so its pain and thats what cuttters or depressed people want. They think it helps them relieve there stress or problems or whatever is going thru there mind. So instead of really badly hurting themselves they use a rubberband to snap down... if you ever got a rubberband snapped at u it hurts.. and thats what happans to them but only closer to the skin and in a more tender area. Sorry if i got you confused-trix

It's something you do to try and break a habit. Whenever you have a strong urge to do something that you shouldn't or don't want to do (i.e biting nails, cutting...etc) then you snap it. I've never heard of anyone needing psychiatric help for that. Kinda strange. What show... do you remember?

Edit~~ that's kinda odd. I've never seen it, but I think it's still strange mostly because i've never heard of anyone needing to do that. But whatever.

It'a an alternative to cutting since it's not as bad as actually getting a knife or any other sharp object. It's the same purpose basically.

It just hurts yourself and its a "lighter way of cutting" I hope that makes sense. But it probably just keep stunning or messing up what's going on under your skin in your wrist. xO ali
