Romeo and Juliet

Question Posted Sunday February 27 2005, 6:21 pm

Hi! I'm having thoughts about marriage, I'm a 19/f btw. I recently viewed the film, Romeo and Juliet and was wondering on what other people's opinions are. Do you think Romeo and Juliet got married too soon? Why or why not? I'd like to talk to someone about this. I gove good ratings. Thank you in advance. =)

The thing with Romeo and Juliet is that it was common for people even younger than them to be married and even parents (Paris says, 'younger than she are happy mothers made' about Juliet). So nah, they didn't get married too young - maybe too SOON though. They were pretty rash about it. I don't see any problems with you, as a 19 year old, getting married, as long as you really know this person and you're sure you want to spend the rest of your life with them. The beautiful thing about Romeo and Juliet is that they knew that (well...who knows, after a year of marriage they may have driven each other crazy :P [the play lasts for five days]). Just maybe live with this guy first and really, really make sure you know him and love him!
Blessed Be,
Rach xxx

They probably should have tried to mend the differences between their parents. They got married pretty soon, but like everyone else said, it was a time when people didn't live as long.

I encourage you to write down your goals and figure out how many you need to accomplish before you get married. 19 is really young. Ideally, I wanted to be married after college-like 25 or so. I wanted to live on my own for no less than 3 years and be able to support myself before sharing responsibilities with someone else. I would highly encourage attending at least 2 years of college because that social dynamic is so much different than high school.

We'll, Ive never seen Romeo and Juliet, but I hear they loved each other, and if you and your partner truly do love each other and both think your ready for it, then go fo rit, but make sure you can support each other---Spike

I think they got married too young. Yes I believe in love at first sight, but to take it as far as getting engaged the same night, that's a little weird. I think that getting married at 19 is very young. You still have your entire life ahead of you and being tied down to one person all through college is hard. You want to go to college, get a job get your life planned out and see what the real world has to offer before you go and get married. But then again, back when Romeo and Juliet was written, it was very common for a girl to get married at a young age like that. Now, it's rarely accepted by people. I believe that if two people love eachother and do want to get married, that if their love is strong enough, they can wait a couple years more to get married since they want to spend the rest of their lives together. Hope this helped.

I don't think they were too young to get married. They were in love and knew that they were the one for eachother. Back in the olden days a lot of people got married at a young age, so it wasn't really a big deal to them. If you were to actually get married now, I think you should have a good job and be able to support your and who ever you marry. But if your really in love, have a good job and are ready to spend the rest of your life with this guy, there's nothing wrong with that! If you would like to talk some more about this, feel free to IM me.

In our society today this would not have been excepted. However, back then it was the usual costum. But if you want my opinion I'll give it to you. I feel that the story is about love so why not give love early? It's about the strong relationship two people feel for each other and want to keep that everlasting feeling for the rest of their lives. So what I'm saying is for the storys sake yes it was already but if it happened in real life I would not be too keen on it. I hope I helped! ♥ good luck

They were young but i mean if you think about back in the old days people got married when they were young. Nowadays it would be a big deal, but like if you have a good job, a place to live in and can support yourself i think that its fine to get married at the age of 19. Obvioussly nowadays at the age of like 16 you really cant like have a good job and everything because its not the same as back then. IM me and we can talk about it more .
