Is there a way to stop a pregnant woman from drinking? I don't understand why it's not against the law. It's aginst the law to supply alcohol to minors, but it's ok to posion your unborn child?
karenR answered Monday April 25 2005, 1:28 pm: I think if she isn't an alcoholic and you don't know her that well that you should mind your own business. It isn't good but since you don't know her keep out of it. [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]

here_x_2_x_help answered Friday March 11 2005, 8:58 pm: My advice to you is try and quit on your own. Later on if you still are drinking try going to a rehab or a therapist or someone you really know and try and talk to them about your alcoholic problems. No I dont think it is right to poison your unborn child.

dreamingkat answered Thursday February 24 2005, 1:00 pm: The only way to prevent a woman from drinking (pregnant or not) is to get her in a controlled environment where alcohol is unavailable. If you are legally responsible for the woman, her next of kin, or her spouse, you can probably get away with forcing her into rehab and/or a hospital, since she's pregnant.
Since the state does not recognize person-hood until birth, restricting the freedom of a pregnant woman to eat or drink as she chooses would be inappropriately invasive of the state.
I would suggest that you make sure she has information on the effects of alcohol on the life developing within her. If she cannot control her drinking and will not go into rehab, the best option may be abortion. [ dreamingkat's advice column | Ask dreamingkat A Question ]

Clash2004 answered Wednesday February 9 2005, 10:52 pm: Dear Drinking Mother,
If the pregnant woman in question is 21 or over then they are allowed to drink. Its their decision what they do to the baby. I do agree however that this woman shouldn't drink while pregnant. Does she understand that things can happen to her unborn child? If she doesn't know then tell her, or show her what can happen if she doesn't get the message. Also if she still doesn't listen or doesn't care then keep the liquor away from her (hide it in other words). Do what you think though. These are just ideas. Bellesono answered Tuesday February 8 2005, 4:37 pm: Dear Drinking Mother,
The hospital can take the child away from the mother if she is suspected of drinking while she was pregnant. Alcohol can cause many birth defects in which the hospital knows of. I would recommend finding help for this person or comfronting her about the danger she is putting her child through. Good luck.

xXxpinky615xXx answered Tuesday February 8 2005, 3:18 pm: Well, there is really no way to prevent her from doing it but there is something you can do to at the very least try to get her not to. If you go to a clinic, they have pamphlets about how drinking/smoking/etc can affect the baby while you're pregnant. If you don't have a chance to go to a clinic, you can always just look it up on the internet. They have it on many parenting websites. Sit her down and show it to her and tell her it's not a good thing to do at all. I agree with you that it should be agaist the law. Women normally don't understand that drinking and smoking can affect your baby so horribly. I hope this helped. [ xXxpinky615xXx's advice column | Ask xXxpinky615xXx A Question ]
