i have been trying to do crunches for about 3 weeks and my stomach didnt really get any smaller. does any one know how many crunches to do in a day or does any one know what other techniques that will work to get a flatter stomach
Alin75 answered Thursday January 20 2005, 7:52 pm: Listen to me very very carefully so you wont be mislead again. There is a very very bad myth going around that humans can lose weight from a specific area of the body. Please believe me this is not physically or biologically (or whatever) possible. Doing crunches will not make you lose weight from your stomach, running wont thin your legs etc etc People will write and say "I run 5 miles daily and I have thin legs" but the running will only help their bodies slim down overall, not target an area. If you want a slim stomach you have to try to lose weight by changing your eating habits and creating a calorie deficit. Excercise in general is important, but dont just do crunches thats not going to help much. Once you start to lose weight Im affraid the order of fat loss is in the hands of your genes... sorry thats life and if anyone tells you otherwise they dont know what they are talking about. The only way you can affect an area is to build muscle on it (but this muscle will happily exist below a huge layer of fat). Anyway, as for training your stomach muscles what I would recommend is using weights behind your head when the sets get too easy. Also, vary your routine (this is key in most programs) both is intensity and in types of excercises done. You can for example do combination crunches and leg lifts, or inclined situps and knee raises). Rotate your excersises every few weeks and you will get better results.
Here is a link to a site that has a ton of great excercises for all muscles [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) Just click on the muscle you want to work (in this case abs) and you will have a whole arsenal of tools at your disposal. Hope this helps. [ Alin75's advice column | Ask Alin75 A Question ]
americangirl101 answered Thursday January 20 2005, 7:24 pm: Do 4 sets of crunches. Like do 15 and then take a like 15 sec break then do the next 15 and stuff. I did it for like 2 weeks and i lost 10 pounds but it depends on the person my stomach didnt get much smaller cuz it was only 10 pounds but maybe if you do it for like 2 months it will get smaller good luck! :D! <3 American Girl [ americangirl101's advice column | Ask americangirl101 A Question ]

thisorthat answered Thursday January 20 2005, 6:13 pm: The best program I ever used was the legendary abs program. It is amazing and only takes a few minutes.
You start laying on your back and swing your legs to a 90 degree angle from the floor and then kick up to the ceiling like you're going to land on it and then swing your legs back down. do 2 sets of 20 with 45 sec rest in between.
wait 30 secs
do 25 crunches with your legs in air at 90 degree angle and do the crunch to the ceiling not to the knees.
immediately do 20 half situps feet on floor and crunch but this time elbows toward the knees.
Try this for a few weeks. when you have it down contact me again.
Now this is only half the battle. These exercises will tone and strengthen the muscles but to show abs you'll have to dies. They say if you have more than 1/4" layer of fat on your stomach you can't see stomach muscles. So you have to change your percentage of body fat to lean muscle. If you can get down to 12% or lower you'll have great looking abs.
The way to do this is to diet and exercise. You need to do weight resistance training four times a week for at least 1/2hour a day preferably 45 mins. You need to lift heavy until your muscles feel fully exerted. You'll be in pain the next day for about three weeks afterwhich it won't be so bad. As far as diet goes no sugar. No soda, fruit juices, gatorade, etc. Skim Milk, coffee, water are all good. No vegetable oils. No corn or soybeans or their byproducts(byproducts are worse). The best oil to use for cooking is coconut oil. After that use Olive oil. Use as little oil as possible. Cut out baked goods. No pizza, bread, pasta, cookies, cake. Eat green vegetables, salad. Watch out for salad dressing though no more than 50 calories per serving. And eat lots of protein, chicken without the skin, fish, lean meat are all good. Fatty meats are still better than baked goods. Anyway this should get you started. Make sure you keep the bad foods out of your house. If you have them their you will eat them.
If you follow this dies and exercise regime you'll have a much much flatter stomach in as little as six weeks. I mean huge improvement. Stick with it for 3 months and not only will you look great but you'll feel great, more energy, more self esteem.
superGiRL21 answered Thursday January 20 2005, 6:05 pm: if you want to get rid of flab around your stomach the easiest way to do that is run. you can do as many crunches as you want but if you have a layer of fat over ur stomach muscles ur not gonna see anything. KaTiE_LyNn answered Thursday January 20 2005, 5:42 pm: i`ve found that doing 50 crunches every morning and 50 crunches every night works pretty well. make sure you have your legs off the ground, making a right angle. trust me it really does make a difference. give it some time and it`ll become noticeable. i hope your stomach gets flatter.

MFS answered Thursday January 20 2005, 5:38 pm: No exercise is going to magically make your stomach flatter. Part of it is likely going to be anatomy - you can't overcome certain things. Another is doing only one exercise is weak - that pretty much gains you nothing. You need a real exercise routine to get any real effect. Also, your posture might have a lot to do with how flat your stomach looks - try examining how you hold yourself when you sit, stand, and walk. [ MFS's advice column | Ask MFS A Question ]
