12/0 is undefined bc that means the line would go straight up and down and if it was 0/12 well thats 0 b/c the line would go straight across so theres no slope at all

JadedinNowhere answered Friday January 14 2005, 4:36 pm:
slop is rise over run, rise/run so the 12 would be the y and 0 the x, it doesn't really matter which way it goes.. but to find the right line with the slop first you need the y intercept or x intercept if you rather. I usually use slope-intercept for this, because you kill two birds with one stone.

slope intercept:

y=mx+b

m is the slope and to find the y intercept you cancel the mx, and the b is it.

hope I helped. :)

When the 0 is on the bottom the slope is undefined. When the 0 is on the top the slope is 0. I always remember this because when you look at the fraction (for example: 0/13), you say the 0 first, so the slope is 0. Hope this helped--if you have any more algebra questions, you can ask me, I'm learning it now =)

O is undefined (it's that sign with an "o" with a slash going through it) because you whenever you divide something with a number above zero, it will always be undefined. If zero is over "12", it will be zero. Hope I helped :)

This might help... when the 0 is on top then it's zero slope, which would also be a horiZontal line... the Z in horizonal, and the Z in Zero. Also my teacher last year drew an H, and the line in the middle that goes horizontally, she drew arrows on the end so we'd know that it was a horizontal line and zero slope. And andything devided by zero is undefined or no slope, because you can't devide something by nothing. you can't break down12 into 0 pieces, but you can break down 0 into 12 peices. (confusing I know) And a way to remember no slop, a verticle line on the graph... When you make a capital n it looks like this N well the 2 outer lines are verticle, my teacher drew arrows on those to so you would know that No slope=undefined.
To answer your question if zero is on the bottom it's undefined(or no slope) and when it's on the top it's ZERO slope.

Also if you solve a problem and x=# then it's undefined(no slope) and if y=# then it's 0 slope.

Good luck, any math questions, algebra level or lower feel free to ask!! I'm awesome at math (as in a 100 or more average)

And I just thought of this to help you, if it's 0/0 then it's undefined because you can't divide anything by 0, so always check for the 0 on bottom first, if it's not on the bottom, then see if it's on top. But 0/0 is UNDEFINED ( I thought some of the extra tips I gave would be helpful, sorry it's kind of long)

There is no division by zero. Invalid operation, therefore undefined. Zero on top I think the answer is 1, but I'm not too positive on that.

anything divided by zero is undefined - it is considered "impossible" by conventional mathematics.

When the 12 is on top, it's undefined and when the 0 is on top, it's 0. It's division. You can't divide 12 by 0, so it's undefined. But you can divide 0 by 12, the answer is 0!
Hope I helped!

Moop answered Thursday January 13 2005, 11:13 pm:
it's 0 when the numerator is 0 because the denominator doesn't matter in those cases. when it's in the bottom it's undefined because it would be a point, not a line.
