Braces
14/F. I have to get orthodonic braces in a few weeks and I have a few questions about them. I will rate. Do they hurt? What will happen if I chew gum with them? What color bands would look good with brown hair and brown eyes? Thanks.

I have braces and yes, they will hurt. My dentist told me my metal reacts with temperature (i don't know if yours will be the same way) so i would put cold water in my mouth and it would relieve a lot of the tension in my mouth. They hurt for 1-2 weeks after getting them tightened or on. For the color of bands- I pick colors i wear a lot of. one thing i discovered was no colors that are light. They are too close to white and make your teeth look very yellow. Hope this helped!

Best colors would probably be pink, white, light blue, lime green or even red.
They don't really hurt unless you screw something up which doesnt really happen... but you get used to it.
If you chew gum just try not to get a brand thats really sticky cuz it will stick.

no they dont really hurt the only part that hurts is getting them tightened. or when you break a wire. well the first night/day they feel really wird and all you do is cut your checks. nothing will happen if you chew gum they think its sucha big deal ts not!! haha . and you should get the white braces not the regualr metal ones the white braces look great n then get blue or pink elastics. it looks so cool!! i hope i helped

Ok um lets see..ive had them 2 times and im getting them again (don't ask why)and they hurt the first couple days but after that they don't hurt unless the bracket cuts your gums..but thats like a canker sore. If you chew gum with them a bracket might fall off..but rarly does that happen..but make sure you brush you teeth afterwards..even if its sugar-free gum. And just about any color looks good..but don't get yellow because it makes your teeth look yellow. Hope i helped! -KittyGurl90

im a 14/f to i got braces on about 2 months ago..i hate them to death!! but after awhile you cant even feel they are there... right now i have in baby blue..everyone tells me that its sooo cute color..once again i to have brown hair ( but i have curlie hair)...and when you get them on it wont hurt but then the next day you have them it will be EXTREAMLY hard to chew..but the more you chew it starts to get better..hope i helped

I had braces too. I don't lie to advice askers, so yes, they do hurt. Not right away, usually a few hours after the orthodontist cements them on. You can ask your parents to pick up some asprin or tylenol if the pain gets to you. And your mouth is sore after you get your wires tightened. I chewed gum sometimes. Sugar Free Gum like Extra, worked fine. Just brush extra well after you eat or whatever.
I like light colors for bands. Do what you like!
Braces aren't that bad, but yes, they suck! Good luck.

the second day is the worst! but its okay. when they tighten them every month it hurts too. i chewed gum and nothing happened. your not supposed to though. i got silver bands. so there is no color in my mouth. it just looked normal. good luck. once you get them off its worth it! trust me.

hey they hurt at first and when they tighten them cause they are pulling our teeth to line them up, i chew gum, just don't chew like big gum balls!, and i have hot pink!, but purple, and baby blue! hope i helped! plz rate me!

I have braces, and mine hurt a LOT when i got them. It hurt like crazy for about a week. I could not eat anything except mashed potatoes and ice cream. They also hurt when you get them tightened. I suggest eating just really soft food (ie. mashed potatoes, pudding, soup, cheese sandwitches, ice cream, and smoothies), and taking advil. I eat gum all the time and nothing ever has happened (i have had braces for 3 years), but i don't suggest chewing trident. That is the one kind I know of that will get stuck. I only broke one bracket, and it was eating one of those unicorn pops, so I don't suggest eating those. I have brown hair and eyes also. im not going to lie to you and tell you that that dont hurt and you dont even notice them.. because they to hurt ... a lot! i hated them soooo much..there just annoying and... yea... very painful when you have to get them tighter..... your not supposed to chew gum.. but i did... and i had no effects on the braces i dont think if it did i didnt notice.. colors... i dunno... i usually just kept them silver...

I'm not gonna lie, they do hurt. Your mouth will be really sore for a couple of days because they're adjusting. On tightening days it will hurt too. And when you get them off they hurt too, cuz your teeth don't have this stuff all around them and yea. There isn't really enough pain to stop someone from doing it though.. Oh and usually nothing will happen if you chew gum, they just don't recommend it because it could loosen or damage wires, but that never happened to me and I chewed gum the whole time I had them. Any colors would look good, don't go with your hair color and eyes. Go with what you like, I had pink, purple, and green a lot.

hey! i happen to have braces, brown hair, and brown eyes! well, they hurt for the first 2 or 3 days but you get used to them quickly. make sure to stock up on apple sauce and pudding! if you chew gum, the colored bands will come off, dont chew! i'd say go with lighter colors, but NEVER go with clear or white. your food will make them turn differnet colors! hope i helped!

They hurt for the first few days and when you get them tightened they hurt a few days after that ,but otherwise they are fine. I didn't chew gum because I was afraid I'd mess them up, but I know a lot of people who chew/chewed gum all the time.

I used to have braces, so I've got this one. Different people will tell you different things when it comes to how much they hurt. Personally, I didn't think they were all that bad--nothing a little Advil didn't cure, lol. It was a little uncomfortable for a few days, but you get used to it pretty quick =) About the gum thing, just be careful. I chewed it, and nothing ever happened...however, I've had friends who've messed up their brackets that way. Just be cautious. I recommend chewing sugar free gum (I believe you're allowed to chew it with braces anyway?). For the colors, go with the colors you like! I mean, there isn't really such a thing as "going with"...it's on your teeth! Just do something fun, and if you don't like it, they change those things so many times anyway, lol...Good luck.

They will hurt at first, I will tell you that. If you do chew gum with them, be very careful, so that it doesnt get stuck in the braces, because that makes it all messy. The color I got (because i have brown hair and eyes,too) was pink and it really went nicely with my eyes and hair. It wasn't boring and it wasn't too outrageous. I'd go with Pink if I were you.

Honestly, yeah, it hurts a ton when you first get them on- not WHILE you're getting them on, though. :) When I had braces, I only had problems chewing bubblegum like Bubblicious. Small gum like Orbit never gave me a problem. As for bands, I kept baby blue ones the whole time I had braces. I just liked it b/c they went with everything and weren't too noticeable.

They will hurt at first like the first night don't expect to able to eat anything at all besides maybe a smoothie. Don't chew gum it will get stuck and its annoying to get out. Usually you don't get to pick what color bands you want. I had clear ones around the brackets and for the elastics for my overbite it was whatever they gave me.

I have braces, and well I've had them for over three years. I'll be honest and tell you that they do hurt, especially when you have to go in and get new wires. It really is okay to chew gum with braces, and really the sugarfree gum is best or the gum specially made for people with braces, but if you chew regular gum just make sure that you brush your teeth really well because you may have the problem of the gum sticking to your braces. And for colors of bands..almost anything and everything would look good, i personally suggest a lavender or light blue but really it doesn't matter. If i have a big occasion, like a dance, then i usually coordinate the color to my dress otherwise try not to make them stand out so much. I hope I've helped....*Kaylee*

its only gunna hurt cuz your not used to them yet..the pain will go away tho..and chewing gum..yah thts alrite..just not all the tyme..but be careful tho sumtyme it may get stuck and you dont wanna have tht problem..and ne color bands will look good w/ brown n brown..but you gotta kkeep changin cuz the colors fade..

They dont hurt and nothing really happenends when you chew gum except winterfresh and allot of colors bands will look good but the thing is in a week the colors on the band fade away

they hurt for about 4 or 5 days but after that it shouldnt hurt very much or at all. once you get used to them, they shouldnt bother you. the orthodontist should give you wax to put on wires if they are poking your mouth. any color will look fine as long as they go well together, like dont get brown and lime green, that would be hideus. if you chew gum, sugarless is probably the best kind to get,but it might be a good idea to wait about a week or so before chewing it so your mouth can get used to having metal in it.

I got mine this past July. I'll tell you I asked a question on this site about them and everone told me that it'd hurt. I was fine. It was sore maybe 5 hours later, but that was when the teeth were moving. They give you medicine (at least my ortho did) but I didn't take it. Other than that, they only hurt after you get them tightened, because that's when your teeth are moving. Gum is okay, depending on what kind. Like orbit, sugar free, extra, gum like that. I use mints though, I get extra mints, or something like that. As for bands, I have really light ones, and you wanna hear something gross... they change color with the food you eat... so like they get gross looking, and it's terrible if you get sick, like regurgitating, because guess what your bands will look like. I suggest getting green or purple (dark green/dark purple) or a dark blue. Nobody will notice if they match your eyes/hair, mine don't and I have the same color eyes and hair as you. Hope I've helped. Oh and as far as eating after you get them, the 1st week I ate puddings and yogurt. I got mine done on a Wednesday, and that following Friday I ate one chicken strip and a plateful of fries at a mexican restaurant called Casa Grande (I also had chips) It hurt a little, but only because I had a cold sore/kanker sore. They give you wax for problems like that, but I just toughed it out, I didn't want to have to deal with that stuff. And it'll take about an hour give or take 15 mintues to get them on, so try to concentrate on something else. I don't want to scare you or anything, but it sucks getting them put on, not because it hurts, but they put some contraption in my mouth to keep my tounge away from my teeth, and let me just say I was thanking the lord when I got it taken out because it bugged me a lot to have that thing in my mouth. no, it does not hurt when they put on your braces. i have hads mine for about 2 years now and the only time they bother me is when i get them tightened. but if u take medicine for like headaches before you get them on it won't hurt as bad,not will happen if you chew gum w/ braces, but i were you i would wait a week until your teeth get use to your braces. As for what color bands to get yoou have to see what colors are provided by your dentist. but most people will get like red and green for christmas w/e holday is comming up is usually the colors i pick and basically any color will go.

itz not that bad when they put it on you but the beginning when they tighten it thats when it will feel achy and sore. and itz not good to chew gum when you have braces but it depends on the braces cuz my best friend had a great orthodontist and she chewed gum all the time and it never broke. and I think that u should choose ure bands by ure favorite color,school color,holiday,season and watever looks or seems kool to u.

hey im 14 too and i got my braces off like a year and a hlaf ago. You can chew gum, it wont get stuck, it doesnt matter what colors, clear turns if you eat colored foods, like spaghetti, and they will be sore when you 1st get em on, but it wont be that bad G/l

Yeah you will be a little sore somtimes. The gum will get tangled in the braces.

first of all yes, they do hurt a lot in the begining, it gets better though. seconed if you chew gum with them then it might wreck the braces and we all know that thats not good. third i have brown hair and brown eyes and let me just say that all bands look good except for orange, black, and bright green. hope that helps good luck with the braces!!!

Yes they will hurt like the first week and then the first few days when you get them straightened!... You can chew gum with them, but do it like 2 weeks after you get them because they can get stuck in your braces and it will hurt when you chew. Any color would look good... i like pink! Oh, but don't get clear/white because they get dirty easily and it looks bad and the clear ones can actually stain you teeth! I hoped i helped!! :)

I have braces and they stink BIG time. But don't let that ruin your life while having them because in the end you will have perfect straight teeth!
They do hurt for like the first 5 days but then after a week you are completly used to them.
You cannot really chew gum with them the first two weeks of having braces but after that you can chew all you want. But some of it will stick to your brackets but in like couple of months you'll chew gum differently in a way that it doesn't effect your braces. I love gum :)
Any color can go great no matter what hair or eye color you have. I have fun with my braces and get colors to match the holidays or seasons :)
