Procrastination

Question Posted Tuesday December 7 2004, 10:43 pm

Gosh, how can I make myself STOP procrastinating??? I mean I've got it bad. I come home from school and don't even start my homework till' about ten at night or after. I get on the computer...eat...clean my room...shower...anything but do homework, and it's making my grades suffer. If I would just start studying for tests a few hours earlier, I would do so much better. Any tips?

Ok, listen. Find something to motivate yourself to do your homework as soon as you get home, no matter what. DONT try going on any electronics til you're done studying and doing homework... if you do then it's too hard to get back on track or stop playing on your computer or watchin TV or whatever. also get yourself a snack or a drink to keep your energy up, that will help alot. Jus think of your homework as a chore, and that you need to get it done quick, so that you can do the things you want to instead. Hopefully this helps ya

i would say...whenever you get home dont worry about anything else...just try your hardest to do your homework...i know i know its boreing and everything but if you dont do your homework then you will end up failing...i hardly ever did my homework and i'm just like you are...i would get home...go to my room watch t.v. get online, talk on the phone or anything besides homework and it made me suffer as well...so the best advice i can give you is just try harder...dont worry about getting online or anything else untill you get your homework done...and you dont have to do you homework untill you get it all finished...but just take breaks...like set up a time to do it...like 30 mins homework and then 10 mins free time...try that and see if it works...hope i helped!-Nikki

Hey there!

I've been in your situation and it's not easy. Here's what you can do...

*Firstly, find a quiet place you can study--away from the internet, bedroom, TV or anything that distracts you.

*Decide how much time you're willing to study and how long your study break is.

*To add fun in your studying, listen to some music could be anything as long as there is no vocals. Probably something like an upbeat or dance music.

Second:

You have to set your priorities... Make school your number one priority or at least just make an effort to study. Be sure to make time just for using the internet, watching TV, and other stuff.

Then if all still doesn't work, go to the school libray or any library to study because you can really concentrate there.

I hope this helps!

Try studying a little bit at a time. Don't do everything all at once. Try doing one assignment and then take a break and do something else. You are the one that decides to procrastinate, so you hae to really want to change your ways for them to actually change.

stop procrastinatin! tomorow! thats the thing hard work pays of later laziness pays off now. procrastiantion isnt the problem, its the solution, just the wrong one. one thing you can do, if you dont have the will power to stop yourself, is ask your mom or dad not to let you on the computer or watch tv until youve finished your homework.

Im like that too, cause i get bored easily when im studying, so what i do is make note cards for everything i need to study for and i quiz myself. i could quiz myself whenever i want with notecards. As for homework, i just like doing it in the morning so i get a break at night.

think about the consequences of not doing your homework. in the long run the bad grades could get you grounded.

hahaha i have the same problem. Try working in a room with no disstractions and no temptations to get up and turn on the tv or get on the computer..I find its easier for me to work at school cause once i get home i totally forget about my hw.BUt if you must do your work at home then right when you get home lay all your homework out where you'll be working on it and then give yourself 30 mins -an hour to just relax and then begin your work.

get a friend to help you, or your parents. you can "reward" yourself, like: if i get my homework done by *a set time* then i will let myself *some reward..tv, internet, have dessert..* if you get a friend to help you, they can call you at a set time each day and ask you how much homework you have gotten done. you can ask a parent to make sure that you sit at the table and do all of your homework before you do something else (tv, clean up, eat..) i am homeschooled, and i guess that effects my work some, but i am almost always done by 3:00 pm, most the time earlier, but just about always by 3:00. because the way the school systems are set up, you dont have the "work-at-your-own-pace" thing, you are in a class. your grades are/will suffer(ing) you will just have to get forcefull with yourself and say "i wont get on the computer until i can say the periodic chart of the elements back and forth in my sleep" (that is a little extreme, but it got your attention - did it not?) but an accountability partner (a friend who will help you study and makes sure you did your work) is amazing.

Start studying for things a few days before it! It makes it to where there is less stress and less to cram in your head before the test! And you could get a study group of girls (maybe guys) together and study! Or make studying a game!
I hope this helps!

You sound like me. Make yourself a timetable and stick to it. Not only will you get it all done but you'll have all this free time as well. Like as soon as you get home give yourself a 30 minute break then do one hour of work then another 30 minute break and another hour of work. Then if you still haven't finished it then give yourself an hour break then do some more then.

Stupid work I hate it so much- hope you get it all done
