okay i was on a antiobitioic for a sinus infection, and its a form of penecilin, and i had these HUGE absolutley huge hives all over me, they were disgusting, i was wondering what exactly are hives?
kristen22 answered Tuesday October 19 2004, 2:51 pm: Hives are raised, often itchy red welts on the surface of the skin. They are usually an allergic reaction to food or medicine.
MFS answered Tuesday October 19 2004, 2:17 pm: As I understand it, hives are tiny pockets of inflammation caused by an allergic response to something. In this case, you are likely allergic to penicyllin - something to be tested for, as the allergy, should it get worse, can be fatal. If you are concerned about the presence of the hives, take a benadryl - but no matter what, inform your doctor of this reaction - it might be necessary to pull you off the medicine and have you take something else. Medicine allergies should NOT be taken lightly. [ MFS's advice column | Ask MFS A Question ]
