I really wanna be professional.

Question Posted Sunday September 26 2004, 12:42 pm

Okay, so I only just turned 13, and I want to become a professional singer.

I've always wanted to be one. Now I want to be one so bad I'll do anything. After seeing JoJo become a singer and she's only 13, I think I could do it too.

What I need to know is where I can go to shove my singing career off the ground. I've had private lessons on singing, and the only problem is I have stage fright of singing infront of people.

I just need to know 2 things. Places I can take my singing career further, and how to overcome my fear.

Thanks!

Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power) is a singer with stage fright. She regularly cries during her shows. Unfortunately for you, Chan Marshall has a little something called talent. She plays guitar and writes her own songs. She records her own CDs and plays her own shows. Give it up, little girl. Unless you want to have sex with old, fat record executives to get yourself a contract, then give it up.

I'm not much of a singer, so no help for the professional bit, sorry.

As for getting more comfortable singing in front of people: like people have said, sing in front of family, friends, everyone you know will help. The other thing you can do is try out for musicals, at church, in school, try looking into some acting things even, things like the Children's Theatre Company. They do musicals and drama stuff, it'd not only get you singing, but get you singing onstage, in front of people.

Best of luck.

Lol, a professional singer with stage fright. Anyway. Can't help you much on the career bit, ask maybe your school music/band teacher or something if he/she knows anything.

But for stage fright, try singing in front of all your friends, and their parents/siblings, and everybody you know, and then once you get used to that, try singing in front of your school or church or whatever you go to, and yeah. Good luck!

professional: becoming a professional singer is a long road and many people dont make it. but if you're determined enough you can. just practice and practice until you even impress yourself. to get known, look into those singing contests (in the very back of magazines like seventeen, cosmogirl, ect.) you could even make a demo tape and send it to a record company

stage fright: this website has a great article about stage fright and how to control it [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

I hope I helped! good luck!

Well I don't really know how you could take it further except for just sign up for auditions and stuff. But, to overcome your fear~just pretend that you're the only person there and there's no one else and just sing your heart out!! :)

You shouldn't do singing as your career if you have stage fright. You can overcome your fear by doing more singing like in a drama club or in the school play. You can always pretend everyone is in their underwear (i know thats old but w/e)Hope it helps GL!

Well, first of all, you're definetly going to need to invest some money in this, so maybe you sohuld talk to your parents. First of all, look for some books about singing at your local library or bookstore, I recommend:
Singing Like The Stars
([Link](Mouse over link to see full location))
This is a very through complete guide that will really help.

If you really want to make it, you should probably write some songs. Here are some guidebooks for that:
Songwriting: A Complete Guide to the Craft
[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
The Craft of Lyric Writing
[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
Songwriting for Dummies
If you don't get the others, definetely get this one.

As much as I'd like to tell you exactly what to do next, there isn't enough room, so I recommend that you read this guide from SoYouWanna.com.
So You Wanna...
Get signed to a record label? [Link](Mouse over link to see full location).

I hope I helped!

Well, to overcome your fear just dont look at the audience, look directly over their heads, or close your eyes. Try to go to another world and keep yourself calm. Unfortunately, this wont make you a professional singer. Most professional singers interact with their audience, and thats what makes them special.

Also, you need to know what kind of image your going to have. You have to give a talent agent a reason to pick you over the masses of other 13 year olds who want to be just like Jojo.

Try to perform anywhere you can. Talk to your parents about finding places. Bars and clubs probably arent the best places for a 13 year old, but some restaurants and things arent a bad idea. Good luck

Well, I think its admirable you want to become a singer and if your set on doing it then go for it.

I dont really know any places of taking your singing career but have you tried performing in talent shows and things like that?. Sometimes that may not seem like a big deal but it sure is a start

As far as overcoming your fear, your going to have to get over it if you want to sing. It doesnt matter where you go to perform its always going to be around an audience of some sort. Try practicing with your friends and family members first and get comfortable around your friends and family then try some of your familys friends and ease yourself into getting more comfortable with people. Just keep a very positive attitude and try not to think about the audience as much when you sing... focus on your dream and your goal and I have ever reason to believe you will go far.

Dude, most of everyone has always wanted to be a professional singer forever. Chances are you'll grow out of this, but if not...well, I dunno. You could try out for Classic Edition, maybe? O_o;

amizzle answered Sunday September 26 2004, 12:55 pm:
Here's what I suggest..

Start small. Sing at local bars/clubs, maybe in school assemblies. This should help you improve your confidence. Also, take any singing workshops you see. These will help you, as well.
Maybe try and enter talent shows, such as Pop Idol & The X Factor.

Also, make sure that you put your education first. Okay, so JoJo made it when she's 13... But it doesn't happen to everyone. Don't get your hopes too high, or you'll find them shattered on the ground.

Good luck...

To overcome your fear you need to start singing in like front of friends, and then family...you know..whereever theres people be like "I'm gonna sing for you" Sooner or later you'll be fine. Now you have to find an agent to sing..But be careful because most agents are fakes. Get a demo tape and send it off to record labels (Jive records, Geffen, etc) Good luck!
