uhohitsholli answered Thursday August 26 2004, 10:19 pm: hey there! if its one thing ive learned in all my years of school, its to not care what people think. but i know that probably doesnt help much since your wanting to make a good impression right? most schools are not what you think they are. alot of kids are so sweet and so supportive of people! they arent anything like you see in the movies or on tv or whatnot. if anything says anything mean about it, just tell them what you just told me in the question. and if they STILL bug you about it, just forget it or tell the principal. my school has a system where nobody gets bullied, or picked on by anyone. its really good. so check with your school and see if they have something like that. hope i helped! xox -holli [ uhohitsholli's advice column | Ask uhohitsholli A Question ]
Pink_Flamingo answered Thursday August 26 2004, 10:15 pm: No I doubt anyone will make fun of you. I know people at school with diabetes and no one ever makes fun of them. If someone askes you what you have to go do just tell them you have diabetes! No ones going to poke fun at that o-o Theres nothing funny about it. The_Big_Ticket911 answered Thursday August 26 2004, 10:15 pm: I know EXACTLY how u feel. I'm a diabetic too and i had the same problem. The only difference is that i'm a guy and i was 11 when i was first diagnosed. I was feeling the same way, and i didn't know what to do. My mom had my teacher tell my class while i was at the nurse. Nobody in my class made fun of me. They just kinda treated me special for a while. Don't worry, they won't make fun of u. And if they do, they r real jerks. I mean, its not ur fault ur a diabetic, and u didn't do anything to deserve it. My best advice to u would be to do ur best to take care of urself regardless of wut anybody (except ur doctors and parents) say. I hope I helped. If u have anymore questions, u can bring them to me and i'll be happy to help. [ The_Big_Ticket911's advice column | Ask The_Big_Ticket911 A Question ]
Clairabelle answered Thursday August 26 2004, 9:39 pm: It might help to make a presentation early in the year in your class on jouvenile diabetes. It will help everybody understand what it is and how you deal with it. It will also help them understand when you prick your finger what you are doing it for. Allow people to ask questions about it and be happy to answer them. If you are starting at middle school you could go to the bathroom to prick your finger during passing periods inbetween classes. The more people understand about something, the more comfortable they are with it. [ Clairabelle's advice column | Ask Clairabelle A Question ]
sccRcRzy_x0x answered Thursday August 26 2004, 9:14 pm: let your teacher know at first and have her talk to each kid in the class personally if possible. if not, explain to them if the subject comes up that you have blood sugar problems and its just to make sure your ok. most cool people will understand that. xoRachel answered Thursday August 26 2004, 9:10 pm: Nobody will make fun of you. At least they shouldn't. It's normal that you have jouvenile diabetes, you just have to explain that to them when they ask what you're doing. After that they probably won't think about it again. Karen answered Thursday August 26 2004, 9:09 pm: Hey girl, don't worry, you are normal. You just have more complicated things to do then most of the people in your school. Going to the bathroom to prick your finger is like a girl going to the bathroom to change her pad/tampon during her period. It's basically the same thing, but you are just pricking your finger. If someone finds out you do this, tell them that you have jouvenile diabetes and just explain to them what it is. Hope I helped and good luck ;) [ Karen's advice column | Ask Karen A Question ]
Moop answered Thursday August 26 2004, 9:08 pm: trust me, most won't notice anything different about you from everyone else. the beauty of public schooling is that everyone's got something different (good or bad) to add to the unusual pot. yours is just something you can't help and they'll understand. if someone does make a comment you just tell them straight out about your diabetes. and don't let them treat you any differently from everyone else.
