Question Posted Wednesday August 18 2004, 12:16 pm

My friend is having a birthday/sleepover party this weekend. Problem is..I dont like sleeping over anybody`s house (just a problem I have) I do sometimes though..but i reeally dont like it. Plus, the friends shes inviting are people i dont know at all. Please help, i dont want to go to this party..what should i say to my friend? I really dont feel comfortable sleeping over someone`s house ive never been to before. My friend, whos going to be there, knows about my problem and im afraid shes going to tell.Should I make up a dumb excuse or admit my problem and jus hang at her house til like 10? I really dont wanna hurt my friends feelings or embarass myself.
Thank you soo much for the help in advance!!!

Hey there. It's not silly at all. Some people just like sleeping at home in their own bed and don't feel comfortable sleeping in other people's house. I had a lot of friends like that in High School. If you're feeling up to it bring a bag with you and leave it in the car or in the hallway. Let your friend know that you just really don't like sleeping places but you'll hang out for a while and see how you feel later. Tell her you still want to stay for a while and have a good time. Don't let this bother you...it's not a problem. She will still appreciate you being there for a little while then not showing up at all. Best of Luck! *Melissa*

I have that problem sometimes too. Its no big deal. Talk to your friend, see if you can go to the party until ten or whatever. You'll still get to share most of the fun. If your friend's friends ask why you have to leave, make up something. Say you're going on a day trip with your family the next day or something. Good luck!

If I were in your shoes, I'd just admit my problem and hang out as late as you want to. Making a dumb excuse is like lying, and lying to your friens generally isn't a good thing. I also just hate the idea of lying, but...
I mean, you have every right not to like to stay over at people's houses. You can just tell her you "really don't feel comfortable sleeping over someone's house" you've never been before. She shouldn't have a problem with that.
I hope this helped!

A fellow person who doesn't like sleepovers! I feel your pain. Tell your friend who knows that you don't wanna sleepover that you don't want her to tell. If she's really your friend, she won't tell. If she does- just tell your friend whose having the sleepover the truth. Just tell her anyway. Say you have something big (like a soccer game or relatives coming) in the morning and you can't sleepover. Just staying till 10 sounds fine!

I did that once or twice...I really didnt like sleeping over my friends house bc I didnt know alot of people since she invites her who class to her party so no one is left out and she still invited me bc we were best friends at the time so I stayed at her house till like 10 or 11 like the boys did and then my mom came to pick me up..so yeah she understood, so I wouldnt see why your friend shouldnt.

I don't like sleeping over anyone's houses much either. Maybe you can go to your friend's house for a little while? That way, you're not hurting her feelings as much, because you came to her party for a little while, you just didn't sleep over. Either that, or you could tell your friend about how you don't like to sleep over other people's houses, and if she's a true friend, she'll understand. Hope that helped!
