Q: Okay guys. I need help. I've been suffering from anorexia for about 3 months now. i've went from 140 to 105 in those months. my dad is starting to get suspishious. i need help. i hate anorexia, but i don't want it to go away. i don't know. help?! i rate highh, higher than the sky. haha.
A: Anorexia is very dangerous, and although it helps you lose weight very quickly, it also undermines your overall physical health. Since you probably aren't getting the right vitamins and minerals from your diet, which means that your bones and muscles will start to deteriorate and weaken.
You should seek advice from your pediatrician or doctor as soon as humanly possible. Depending on how you think your parents will react, it might be best to tell them, first, but if you think they won't take it well, it might be better for them to hear it from a medical professional who has some suggestions on how to deal with it.
Don't be afraid to get help! Although it might be difficult to get up the nerve to do so, it'll be better for your long-term health.

Q: for my school i have to like read lots of books. Does anyone know of any teen books that are good, but not to to long?
A: I'd suggest Louise Rennison's Georgia Nicolson books - the first one is called Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging. Also, Feeling Sorry for Cecelia is a good book, too, and it's not too long.
You might also try Persepolis, which is a book in comic book format about a girl who lived in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. It takes about an hour to read, and it's funny but poignant.
If you like some fantasy and science fiction, you might also try Sabriel, by Garth Nix. It's a little dark, but it goes pretty quickly despite its size, and it's a good book, too.
In addition, I'd also recommend any of Terry Pratchett's books. They're funny, smart, and easy to read. I'd suggest starting with some of his later books, like Thief of Time, Night Watch and Monstrous Regiment, because they're better than some of his first ones.
Happy reading!

Q: okay in school every one calls me a slut and im not one i never had sex,or gave anyone head!! what should i do when they call me it? please help!!
i rate high
A: That's not very nice of them. However, you may need to evaluate how you present yourself. If you dress in revealing clothing and flirt a lot, it may be assumed that you are doing those things. If they continue to do that, I'd suggest confronting them and asking them why they're saying things like that. Afterwards, you could always talk to a trusted teacher to see if they could do anything to mediate the situation.
I hope I've helped, and I hope things get better for you soon!

Q: I really want to change my religion, I am a Roman Catholic I just don't believe in their thoughs and such. I am not sure what I want to be. Does any oen have any past experience? Is it like a legal thing if you want to change religions; like you have to get papers? Any help or comments or info about other religions would be greatly appreiciated!
A: Changing religion isn't so difficult. If you don't go for what the Roman Catholics do, then perhaps there's something else that might suit you. For example, if you'd prefer less intricate services, you might prefer a form of Lutheranism. If you just don't agree with the Church's ideas on women in the church, gay people, etc, you might try an Episcopalian church. Unitarianism are a good choice for people who are just pretty sure that there is a God.
A good book to consider on this issue is My Friends' Beliefs by Riley H. Ward. It discusses a number of religions, including different sects of Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Buddhism, among other things.
You dn't need any papers or anything, either - it's just kind of something you do - you just change churches, for instance.
Good luck with finding something you like!

Q: Ok. I'm just wondering how normal you'd say this is. I've got a ton of friends from places, and I dont' want to lose any of them, but I'm worried I will. This year I've changed, and a lot of my friends from old schools and stuff think I'm becoming "bad" or whatever. I like to spend most of my time alone, or with the same few people. With most people, I prefer to keep in touch with them through IM or phone, but not in person. I've had people call me depressed, suicidal, lonely, all kinds of stuff. Sometimes I guess I do seem like I'm depressed or something, and I'm worried about losing one of my friends because she's feeling like I've gone goth over the summer, and for some reason she hates goths. As far as I know, I haven't.
How can I maintain friendships if there are so few people who's company I really enjoy?
A: It's not weird to prefer to spend your time alone, and rather talk to people over the phone or AIM - you're probably just introverted, like me and many other people.
Maintaining friendships is a difficult thing, especially if you do tend to keep to yourself a lot. I think the best thing you can do is try and be as friendly as possible with the friends you want to keep. If you can't see them in person, IM, email or call them on a regular basis so they know you're thinking of them.
The best way to keep friends is let them know you care, and that you like having them around.

Q: anybody know how to do different kinds of buns besides messy bun and "just wrap it around with the ponytail"?
A: Well, if I were you, I'd invest in a pair of chopsticks. Not the kind you eat with, though! :P They sell them with the hair accessories - they're these decorative sticks. Here's what you do with them:
1. Put hair in ponytail, as high as you can.
2. Twist ponytail so it's like a big rope.
3. Wrap ponytail around, while trying not to have any bits stray off.
4. Stick in a stick diagonally. Be sure to hold the bun tight so it doesn't fall out! Try and get it under some of the hair that's closer to your head so it'll stay.
5. Put in the other stick. VoliĆ”!
It's great for any occasion if you want to look nice. They'll usually even have better instructions on the back of the package, and it works even better if you get someone to help you.

Q: hey umm when i get my period its like only 3 days it that normal? should i see a doctor?
A: Sometimes this happens in your first few years, before it settles into a regular cycle. It's really not much of a problem. If it keeps happening, you should see a gynecologist.

Q: sorry if its long!! ok. there is this gurl umm lets call her jenn* i used to like her, but when i got with my boyfriend, i found out some stuff that they did like umm..have sex in his truck. (this was back like 2 years ago and i have been with my boyfriend for 8 months now and havent done anything with him) ((she broke his glove compartment door by the way when they were doin it.lol)) ok well..everytime i think about it, i get sooo jealous/mad! i mean he dont like her or anything and always calls her a whore, which she does do a lot of ppl. well anyways..but i just dont know how to stop being so worried and stuff about it. ya see.. i saw her last night at the fair and we got on the same ride. she was 2 seats down from me. i didnt know she saw me. but obviously she did because she called my baby adam today and told him she saw me there. she asked him if he wanted to come over and go swimming and he told her naw. i asked him why he didnt go and he said because he wouldnt want me to go to a guys house and go swimmin and plus he just didnt feel like it. but do you know anyways just to keep from gettin so mad/jealous when i think about it? PLEASE HELP!
A: She does seem a bit as though she's flirting with your boyfriend. Don't confront her unless she does it again - she should get another chance. If she does, make sure your boyfriend gives her a clear message that he's only interested in you, and isn't going to be looking at anyone else anytime soon.

Q: ok...well i have this kinda thing for piercings, i have my ears pierced of course, my belly button, my nose...well i took that out and i did have my eyebrow! well i really really want my tongue pierced! my mom wont let me get well 1 because im too young and also my brother had his done and it really messed up his teeth but anywayz i was just wondering if you knew how i should do it or w/e alrighty thanx!!
A: Well, I'd think about it before you do it - think about if it might interfere with things like eating, kissing, talking, etcetera. You also probably don't want an infection in your tongue.
If you really want to do it, I'd really suggest not trying to do it yourself. Wait a little bit until you're eighteen and then you can get however many piercings you want.

Q: (Sorry, I wasnt sure what category to put it under) Ok, ever since 5th grade I really started to hate my life. I mean, this large group of girls were doing petty things and were lying to the principal. Alot of people hate me. I lost 25 maybe more, friends. I cant take it anymore. My friends are starting to ignore me and "snub" me! Im starting to feel very depressed and lonely. My self-esteem is 2. Not alot. I cry myself to sleep. My family life isnt any better. My mom is SUPER paranoid, so I cant tell her anything. My dad wont understand. My mom wont let me go over to my friends house and such! Please help!

A: Ah, junior high.
Well, if you don't have any friends at school, make some elsewhere that you can talk to! Church groups, Girl Scouts, rec center sports teams...
Unfortunately, a lot of girls go through an "evil phase" around middle school that may last through high school or even longer - you know, they talk behind each others' backs, and they're sooooo concerned with getting boys? If you're not into the same things they are, they may think you're not trendy or "in" - but trust me, it's so much more fun to be yourself.
Not having parents that you feel comfortable talking to stinks. You could always try and catch a favorite teacher after school and see if they can help you, or something like that.
As for your mom not wanting you to go over to your friends' houses, try asking her why she doesn't want you to. In giving a response to her, try and be as mature and reasonable as possible - if she sees you as being mature, then she'll probably let you have more freedom :) It's very important to be able to hang out with your friends, after all.
As for crying yourself to sleep... I know how that is, I've been there, and the key is to find something to be excited about. Find a hobby, like, say, writing, web design, reading, making up stories in your head, whatever, and try and think about it until your brain goes numb. Find your happy place. Having nice, calm music helps, too.
If you're beginning to feel depressed/suicidal or you start to inflict physical pain on yourself, it's possible you're clinically depressed, and you ought to talk to your physician or a guidance counselor.

Q: well my friend Amanda finch cuts. she cant stop. plz help she wants to kill herslef and i hope she doesnt! help! how do i support her?! i need ideans and QUICK!
A: Go tell a school administrator or guidance counselor IMMEDIATELY. I repeat, IMMEDIATELY. Stop reading this and go tell someone about this. She needs to get help, and SOON. There are psychologists and doctors that can help make her feel better so that she doesn't feel like she has to cut herself. In the meantime, just hang by her, and try and be comforting and friendly.

Q: Hi. I'm in the seventh grade and am terrified about what I might get as a result on my reprot card. I never got off the honor role in my life of being in school. I get all A's and 1 B, and other times just all A's. I'm not trying to boast or brag or anything. I got 3 zeros in science, 1 D, and maybe I think 3 A's. My grade's shouldn't be going down like this because I know I can do better than that. The 1st quarter ends on October 20. Is there anyway I can improve my grade to an A by then. If so, please respond to this question. Thanx!
A: Talk to your teacher about it - he or she may be able to recommend some solutions, or give you some extra credit work to help get your grade up. Since it seems like you consistently have good grades, it's likely your teacher will take mercy on you. Just make sure you check your answers, compare your answers with a friend's, and read the sections in your textbooks that you're studying in class.

Q: i am a freshmen ... and a senior is hitting on me ... it is now September ... but this has been going on for about a year. He is a Lifeguard at a pool i was at during the winter, and he IMed me and told me that he really likes me and that im pretty and stuff and he wants to go out with me. He seems nice but my parents will NEVER go for it .... but he still talks to me and stuff ... at times he can be gross ... but hes pretty nice ... i never see him tho .. he goes to a different high school..... im just SO CONFUSED !!!!
A: Three years older? It won't really work out. Best case scenario, if he really is interested in you and doesn't want anything but your pleasant company, he'll be off to college in a year. Plus, you'll probably end up hanging out with all his senior friends, and it'll be very, very awkward. Worst case scenario, he wants to take advantage of you. Keep it at just friends if he's a nice guy - that's the best deal you'll get.

Q: I have thick hair and a lot of it....and its layered. School starts next thursday and i want a new style. Ive been tryin to get my hair to flip up on the ends but no matter what i try (curling irons, gel, blow drying with a rounded brush,) i cant make it work. My hair is also really wavy in the back and i want to know what works good to make the front look like the back. (tryed scrunching) If you have any style ideas plz let me know!
A: Thinning your hair helps when you get it cut, and having shoulder-lenghth-or-above if it's not already helps too, I think, but for a quick fix wash your hair and then put it in a ponytail overnight.

Q: Hey, My name is Megan, and i'm 15. I've always been treated pretty bad in school. I don't think i'm fat or ugly, but everyone calls me ugly. I don't know why they would say things to hurt me, and it makes me feel bad all the time, though I try to hide it. Today at lunch, someone gave me a joke love letter of someone I know asking me to homecomming. (The one who gave me the note hates me) When I opened it, a fry with ketchup on it fell on my white skirt, and ruined it. They all laughed it up, while a friend of mine yelled at them. I don't understand why people do the things they do to me, I try to ignore them, but you know, it hurts. I just wish people at my school would treat me like a human. I'm not mean to people, i'm nice. I don't talk about people I keep to myself...what is wrong with me?
A: Some common reasons this might be happening are: a) because they need a target to make themselves feel better about themselves and to keep their positions of power in the hierarchy of school cliques; or b) there's something about you that they envy, and they want to keep you down so you can't replace them in the eyes of everyone else.
You could talk to your counselor or a trusted teacher about it - sometimes, after they talk to your class about it, it wears off after awhile. If things get really bad to the point that you don't feel comfortable at your school anymore, you could try changing schools. Or, you could try asking one of the people who's teasing you about why they're doing this to you.
Some recommended reading on the subject is Rosalind Wiseman's Queen Bees and Wannabees (which sparked the movie Mean Girls), Odd Girl Out and Odd Girl Speaks Out by Rachel Simmons. Queen Bees and Wannabes is a very good and comprehensive book, and it even includes stratagies for talking to people you have a problem with.
