Question Posted Thursday September 2 2004, 11:30 pm
I have thick hair and a lot of it....and its layered. School starts next thursday and i want a new style. Ive been tryin to get my hair to flip up on the ends but no matter what i try (curling irons, gel, blow drying with a rounded brush,) i cant make it work. My hair is also really wavy in the back and i want to know what works good to make the front look like the back. (tryed scrunching) If you have any style ideas plz let me know!
x0o5sweetAZsugar answered Friday September 3 2004, 4:09 pm: i have hair like that too- please give this a try this will work i promise a good first-day doo
shower->shampoo, condition-VERY little and rinse out completly(in icy cold water for shine)
-when its dripping wet do NOT wrap it in a towel.
-flip your head upside down, then back up, do that 3 times
-put Loreal Extra Hold Styling Mousse in and work it in with your hands not too much! and flip your hair up and down like before 5 times (without brushing)
-put Suave Medium Hold Styling Gel in with your hands again (remember NO brushing yet)
-finish by spraying with any hairspray (not one thats extra hold cause no one wants dried crust)about 3 sprays (one underneath your hair- do that by flipping your head upside down)
-give your hair a final 5 flips to get the products all through it (and get off excess water)
-then brush with a big flat square brush (Goody $2.50)
****not too much of each product****
****dont do everyday or your hair will get icky buildup****
***pick your own brands if they work better on you- these are just best for me and everone is different***
***practice a week b4 school starts to be sure everything works right***
ANOTHER choice you have is wash, condition with a huge handful of rich conditioner, let it sit and thickly coat your hair till you finish showering and then rinse with ice old water - not for chilly pain, but for extra shine -
good luck on your first day and let me kno how it works

Laura answered Friday September 3 2004, 9:36 am: I have the EXACT problem. Next time you get your hair cut, ask your stylist to thin your hair. She'll take a little razor type of thing and run it through your hair, and it thins is out a little bit, so it's a lot easier to handle. I can never get my hair to flip up, but try a flat iron, or a straightening iron. I don't have one, but I've heard they work. Also, after you wash your hair, use a rounded brush while your hair is still SOAKING wet and flip it up. It should work. Then work some gel into it and put a little hair spray on it.
As for making it look wavy, try braiding it the night before and then taking the braids out in the morning. The bigger the braid, the bigger the wave.

xxxxxx answered Friday September 3 2004, 6:53 am: i used to have the same problem flipping my hair out back when it was long. i used a blow dryer with a round brush and i used HAIR FREEZE and it stayed perfectly. or, if you want it to be curly all the time, you could get a perm. my friend got one and her hair is wavy/curly and it looks A-MAZING! Sherry answered Thursday September 2 2004, 11:47 pm: Hmm idk but maybe you can go to a hair salon and ask the girl/guy to thin out your hair so that way you can style it more. [ Sherry's advice column | Ask Sherry A Question ]
