My name is Melanie, and I'm 14 years old. I live in MA. I love to play soccer, and have been playing since I was little. I like to play other sports as well. I love hanging out with my friends, of course.

Lately I've been going through a lot of crap so I wanted to make one of these, so I could help other people if they needed it. Some people may not like my advice, but I can't please everyone. I'll try to help you as much as I can. If you'd like to talk to me on IM for some reason, my s/n is lostxinside87. My e-mail is SoccerChick62591@aol.com if you want to e-mail me, if you do, make sure you put advice in the subject, otherwise it will be deleted.

P.S feedback is always welcomed =). And thanks for those of you who give me awesome feedback, it's greatly appreciated, and I'm glad I helped!

MY FRIEND IS ON DRUGS NOW HE TOTALLY RELYS ON IT he thinks its impossible to get off it he does pot and alcohol and HE CUTS HIMSELF HOW CAN I HELP HIM?! (link)
You really need to tell someone, like and older, responsible adult. Your parents, his parents, police, your guidance counselor, whoever. But they'd know what to do with him, for the time being. He should go into a rehab center. Maybe you could try to find one for him..

I'm getting a physical soon and I want to know what they do. Because last time I got one (about 2 years ago) the doctor made me take my clothes off. Are all physicals like that or do they just check your eyes, hearing, breathing, stuff like that? I rate 5's (link)
This is what I need to do at my physicals..

-Get my eyes checked [reading of one of those charts, and then they look at it with a light]
-Get weighed, and they measure my height.
-Get my ears checked.
-Get my spine checked.
-They check my blood pressure.
-They check my heart beat.

I think that's about it. I need to take off my clothes, but I put a gown thing on. I think some doctors are different..

How exactly is being anorexic bad for you? People has said that if you're anorexic your body loses all these nutrients but what are the actual like 'symptoms' you get if you're anorexic. Besides dizzyness and fatigue.
Thanks I'll rate 5 for any decent answers! (link)
Well, here's a site that has a self-evaluation test:
http://www.teengrowth.com/index.cfm?action=info_article&ID_article=1366&category=health&catdesc=Health&subdesc=Nutrition

Anorexia is a very serious disease, and it kills some people. It's very hard to understand, and it's very misunderstood. It's a mental thing.

Here are some symotoms:

-Distorted Body Image

-Feelings of guilt after eating
-Is already thin and weight is still dropping
-Cessation of a period for three consecutive cycles
-Counts every calorie and fat gram that is eaten
-Paleness, dizziness, or fainting spells
-Intense, dramatic mood swings
-Excessively and compulsively exercises
-Complaints of being cold
-Hair loss
-A high need for control
-Wearing loose clothing
-Exhaustion and Fatigue
-Hiding food in napkins, under beds, in drawers, etc.
-Abuse of laxatives, diet pills, or diuretics
-Very poor self-esteem
-Never eats around others

Some Telling Signs that Anorexia May Be in Progress

-The individual is very preoccupied with weight, counting calories and fat grams, and dieting.
-The individual is drained and has little energy.
-The individual has begun wearing extremely loose fitting clothing.

-The individual has started growing fine facial and body hair-a type of fur (lanugo).
-The individual is extremely irritable and has dramatic mood swings.
-The individual tends to isolate in social situations or avoid social gathering.
-The individual consumes a lot of non-caloric foods such as diet soda, gum, etc.
-The individual's hair is falling out and/or becoming extremely dry and brittle.
-The individual often withdraws from touching others.
-The individual avoids restaurants and eating in front of others.
-The individual's complexion has become pale and his/her skin is extremely dry.
-When the individual looks in the mirror, his/her reflection is like a "funhouse" mirror. (Distorted)
-Meal times have become extremely ritualistic- e.g. the individual will insist on eating in the same bowl, he/she will cut their food into tiny pieces, he/she will not let the articles of food on the plate touch one another, he/she will keep on moving food around the plate to make it appear as if something has been eaten, etc.
-The individual uses excessive laxatives, diuretics, or diet pills to control weight.

I didn't know what to put this under but anyways. Lately I can't sleep at night I just lay there in bed for like 3 hours before I can even sleep at all. Does anyone know what's wrong or how to make me sleep? (link)
That'd been happening to me too! I'd talk to your mom. Maybe she can get you some simply sleep or something [they're supposed to help you skeep]. Try not to think about sleeping, like "I'm never gonna get to sleep tonight!". And try not to think about anything, just relax. Some people do yoga, and that helps. Others have warm milk. I've never tried either, however.

I heard that you get more color when you're sun tanning while it's cloudy outside. I've searched all over the internet and can't find out if this is true or not. If anyone knows if this is true please tell me! I'll rate high. Thanks in advance!

P.S. Always use sunscreen! (link)
I'm not positive, but I think you get just as good as a tan in cloudy whether and sunny weather!

ok so im going to be hosting a pool party..so of course i cant just not swim..! im also expecting my period the day of the party..i never use tampons so i dont think they will work the first time.. i hear they hurt and are tricky to use the first few times. what am i to do? any way to delay my period? im desperate enough to try stressing myself out on purpose because i hear stress delays it..what else can i do? should i try using the tampon? last month my period didnt come until like 10pm...will it come on the same time (10pm) this month?
5's for juS ABOUT anyone (link)
Well, there are a few things you can do, it depends on when your period comes though. If it comes a little earlier, you can wear tampons then so you've had experience before your pool party. Last year my first time wearing a tampon was at a pool party, and everything was fine for me, but I can't promise you it'll be the same way for you. You can always not swim, or maybe swim for a little bit with a tampon in and then go to the bathroom to check if you need to change it or whatever. Hopefully you'll get your period late so you can swim without worrying or anything!

(link)
There's so many things you could do! It depends on A) what you like, or B) what your school has. Here are a few things.

-Soccer
-Basketball
-Baseball / or softball
-Tennis
-Hockey
-Math Club
-Science Club
-Quiz Team
-Track / Cross Country
-Admissions Team
-Maybe you could do some work for charity

ok i asked about the pool party im throwing..well i guess now i have to talk to my mom about getting tampons. how should i go about this? me and my mom are close, but i really never talk to her about my period. (link)
There's really not much you can do, other than asking her. You can say something like "Hey, mom, you know how my pool party is coming up? Well, I'm on my period, do you think you could buy some tampons?" or maybe "Mom, the pool party is coming up, and I'm on my period, I don't know what to do." You can always try e-mailing her, or writing her a note as well.

i just turned 14 and in janurary or feburary i got my first period. now its april and i havent had it since, i know irreguar periods are normal but for this long?!?! (link)
Yes, they're usually irregular between your first 1-3 years.

my name is danielle i am only 15 but i have a drug addicition i been to 3 rehabs since i was 13 and i just started back on weed and coke my friend is trying other drugs adn my friend says there really good and will take away my depression. i know i shouldnt do them but i am sooo confused on what i should do to stop my drug addiciton, what should i do for my self?
(link)
Honestly, I'm not too sure. However, I do know that you should NOT do drugs. But I definately give you credit for trying to get help! Drugs don't take away your depression, the best thing to do for depression is to go to a counselor. If you go to your doctor ask them to give you a list of good counselors near you. Try chewing gum all the time instead of doing drugs. I've never had a situation like this, but I hope I helped!

Hello, sorry I didnt know what category to list it under i think this should be ok.

Well i have a brace and I think it looks really ugly! Im not sure weather boys take intrest in me anymore and I'm really scared incase it ruins my 'love skills' aka kissing etc.

Also how could I kind of "hide" them so people dont notice them so much?

Sarah-lee 13 (link)
So many people have braces, you're not alone. Practically everyone in my class has them! Just think of how beautiful your teeth will be when you get them off! I don't think it would be a turn-off. Guys shouldn't care about your appearance anyways, it's the inside that counts!

Hope I helped!

My periods are very irregular, even though i've had them for almost 4 years now, my hair is falling out, im always tired, i get contipated and my nails are really weak. Does anyone what these symptoms could mean? my mum has a thyroid robleem and thinks i could have it also, i want to go to the docters but im terrified of needles, and they'll want a blood sample.
Please help (link)
Here are some things that can also cause irregular periods:
Significant weight gain or loss
Overexercise
Eating disorders
Increased stress
Polycystic ovarian syndrome/Estrogen dominance
Uterine abnormalities(fibroids/cysts/polyps/endometriosis)
Medications
Chemotherapy

I would go to your doctor, but if any of the above relates to you, it's probably why.

Hope I helped!

Hey gals,
to any of you who arent very close to your moms, how did you tell her when you started your period and how did she react? (link)
I cried lol. Then she was like "what's wrong" and I told her. I didn't know what to do. You could write her a note, or e-mail her. Or if you have an older sister who you're more comfortable telling, ask her to tell your mom for you.

Hope I helped!

14/f
summer is coming up and i am going to be swimming ALOT. i got my period at the very end of last summer so i didnt have to worry about swimming. but now that this summer is getting closer i am considering tampons so i can swim whenever i want. my questions are what brand of tampons are best and should i start now so i will be more confortable or will it matter?

thank you. (link)
Well, different people prefer different tampons. I don't use them. But I've heard tampax pearl are really comfortable. Try out a few different brands until you find the one YOU like best. I would start wearing them now. They take a little while to get used to, and to insert them properly. Just remember to use the proper absorbancy to prevent risks of TSS.

Hope I helped!

What if I haven't had any of that stuff the causes an irregular period? (link)
Then it's probably just because you've recently started. They can be irregular the first 1-3 years. If you're worried, you should see your doctor.

Hope I helped!

Ive been down in the dumps lately about alot of things..first off my parents split up after a 22 yr marriage..then i didnt make my aau softball team that i make every year...and then things didnt work out with the guy i thought i liked. I really am depressed..i know i am..the symptoms are all there. I need something that will hype me up a little..ne suggestions? (link)
Try talking to someone. Whether it be one of your parents, a teacher, guidance counselor or close friend. I would recommend talking to one of your parents, and tell them how you feel. Then maybe you could go to a doctor, and they can tell you a good counselor near you. You may need anti-depressents, who knows. But just remember, a lot of people love you. And you're not alone, many people feel this way. Everything will get better, don't worry! You can IM me whenever you want.

Hope I helped!

I am 13 years of age and I had my period two times last year. Only two times because it started at the end of the year. I've only had it two times because I haven't had it this year yet. Is that normal? Is that supposed to happen? Is it healthy when you period does that? (link)
Since you recently started it, I would say it's normal. Here are some things that can also cause irregular periods:
Significant weight gain or loss
Overexercise
Eating disorders
Increased stress
Polycystic ovarian syndrome/Estrogen dominance
Uterine abnormalities(fibroids/cysts/polyps/endometriosis)
Medications
Chemotherapy

Hope I helped!

im 13/f and have been gettin discharge for more then a year...buti havent gotten my period yet..is this normal? (link)
As everyone else said, yes that's normal. You usually get discharge 1-3 years before you get your period. So yours will probably come sometime in the near future. I'd carry around a pad or tampon ins your purse or backpack just incase it comes.

Hope I helped!

Throughout my whole life, I've always been kind of 'pleasently plump' so to speak. Now, being thirteen, I was uber fat in elementary school, I've gained about twenty pounds since fifth grade, but I've grown a good seven inches. Is this healthy? My 'extra weight' evens out pretty well on my body..I'm five foot five and I weight about one fourty seven or so.

I have wide set hipbones, I'm a "WIDE" person..But I know I couldn't change that even if I tried, that's just my body type. SO should I even concider diet. Oh, I'm already a vegetarian...

Danke

-Mistress Maddy (link)
I, personally, don't think you need to lose any weight. You're still young, and your body is going through changes. The only thing I would suggest is maybe cutting down on junk food, and that's only if YOU feel you'd like to lose a little weight. Maybe you could eat fruits or vegetables. I would recommend exercising, I don't mean it to lose weight though. Idk if you exercise or not, but it's just good for your body in general.

Hope I helped!

hey guys i didnt know what to put this under but, i want to get a tan this spring break since im not going anywhere. the thing is m, my mom doesnt want me to go in a tanning bed. what are some ways i can convince her to let me go? thanks anyone that replies! (link)
Well, everyone else said what I was going to say.
A) Tanning beds aren't good for your body at all. I guess if you REALLY REALLY want to do it just this time you can try explaining to your mom you just want to do it for spring break. Or maybe using your age as a factor to why you should go. I, personally, don't think being tan is worth putting your body in danger..
B) Try getting tanning lotion. I don't know too much about them, but maybe you could go to a store and ask the workers to help you out.
C) Go outside to tan.

Hope I helped!
