Hello, sorry I didnt know what category to list it under i think this should be ok.
Well i have a brace and I think it looks really ugly! Im not sure weather boys take intrest in me anymore and I'm really scared incase it ruins my 'love skills' aka kissing etc.
Also how could I kind of "hide" them so people dont notice them so much?
BeautifulMadness answered Thursday April 7 2005, 5:54 pm: Braces doesn't affect kissing. Honest! Unless both of you have them...in which case you can get stuck together lol.
DON'T try and force close your mouth over the braces all the time because that will just give you a cut lip and make it look like you have a really odd-shaped mouth.
Also, don't get white braces (the elastic bands) because they make your teeth look yellow. Try pastel colours - baby pink and baby blue make a nice mix.
Just forget that you're wearing them...eventually you will get used to them, and so will everyone else, and at the end of it you'll have perfect teeth!!
I have braces too, and I've had them for almost a year now. I'm so used to them, and so is everyone around me, that they all say I would look odd without them. If you treat them the right way, and still stay happy and smiley, not only will people get used to them quicker but they won't bother about them if you don't. Think of them as a fashion accesory - and you can change the colour every time you visit the dentist!
My braces get me down too sometimes, but you've just gotta remember how great your teeth with be when they come off!!
Remmeber - a guy would rather kiss a girl with braces than one with wonky rotten teeth.
Blessed Be,
Rach xxx
*Edit: Oh, and I'm sure they don't look that bad...I have pink ones and I've always got girls telling me how nice they are!! [ BeautifulMadness's advice column | Ask BeautifulMadness A Question ]

Im sure that they dont look bad. When i got mine i thought they looked bad and everyone else liked them! So dont worry about your braces alot of people have them!
aeromonkey answered Thursday April 7 2005, 5:14 pm: The only way to hide your braces is to nevers smile. To never smile is to make you unattractive. Smiles bring out the best side of anybody...(looks) so just wait. IN a few months/years. your teeth will be back to normal.. promise. I had to go through braces and i servived. Just.. don't chew gum excesevly cause it could damage your braces and make your waiting longer. [ aeromonkey's advice column | Ask aeromonkey A Question ]
lostinside answered Thursday April 7 2005, 5:08 pm: So many people have braces, you're not alone. Practically everyone in my class has them! Just think of how beautiful your teeth will be when you get them off! I don't think it would be a turn-off. Guys shouldn't care about your appearance anyways, it's the inside that counts!
karenR answered Thursday April 7 2005, 4:10 pm: Braces shouldn't hurt your love life any! I think you can get those clear invisible braces now (like Tom Cruise), but I don't know if they are right for everybody's problem. You might ask your ortho at your next appointment.:) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]

You're not alone, here are some answers to questions about getting a set of perfect straight teeth. What kind of braces should I get?
The most common (and toughest) kind are stainless steel the silvery hardware you think of when you hear braces. This type is most affection and also more visible. Or you can have the braces which hold the wires glued to the tounge side of your teeth. From the front no one can see that you're wearing anything but those suckers can scrape your tongue and make you talk funny at first. Third option;ceramics. Those clear babies are glued to the front of your teeth but keep in mind they're expensive. (like 200$ to 500$ more then steel) and very hard, you can even ending up chipping your upper teeth when you bite down, you may be able to strike a compromise by getting ceramic on top and stainless steel on the bottom, The last choice is called "Invisalign" it's a transperent tray (picture someone like a hard plastic wrap molded into a retainer) that you take out before you eat, brush and floss. It works best after you have all your permanent teeth (arround 12 or 13 but it varies) and it's not really meant for heavy duty tooth moving, it's more for filling minor gaps.
How do you know what colours you should choose for your bands?
This is totally up to you, silvery -gray or clear ones blend in with your brackets if that's what you're concerned about but we like to think of the coloured for self-expression. Use them to celebrate a holiday (like red and green for Christmas and pink for valentine's day) or as another place to wear your signature shade. The bands are so tiny you don't have to worry aboout them clashing with your clothes. Just pick a colour that grabs you and you can get new ones every offic visit so there's very little commintment involved.
How do you deal with food getting stuck in braces?
We know you don't wanna hear it but the best way to get gunk of of your brackets is to brush your teeth after every meal! Nooooo! Wait don't stop reading! There are more reasons to start toting a toothbrush arround with you. Brushing helps provide stains which is good and when tiny bits of food get stuck in ur brackets they can react with bacteria in your mouth become acidic and act like bleach. That gives you small permanent spots arround your braces that are lighter then the rest of your teeth. If you forget your toothbrush at lunch time rinse your mouth out with water its bitter then nothing. And swishing with a flouride rinse beofre bed will take care of the books and crannies you may have missed.
What do you do if you play the trumpetm is there anything you can do to protect your mouth?
You can ask your orthodonitist for bumpers, smooth little jackers that'll fit over your braces. They sghield your lips from your brackets while you toot away.
Is it diffcult to kiss when you have braces?
The key is to gentle the softer the smooch the less likely you'll be to scratch your mouth (or your kissing partner)and don't orry if the guy has braces too. Just make sure you can both keep your lips over your brackets so they don't scrape together. Here's a bonus:You;ll have an excuse to "practice" until you perfect your technique.
Should I change the way I do makeup?
It's all about pulling attention away from the metal and the one way to do that is to put attention to your eyes. That means TONS of mascara. when it comes to eyeshadow the color is up to you, but limit glitter, braces glint a lot on their on and sparkle overload is never good. For lip gloss go nude and super sheer shades, subtle colors won't look too shiny next to metal, buit you don't have to ditch bold colours altogether. Gwen Stefani proved during her braces perioid red lipstick draws eyes away from the steel. Just switch to a matte finish so your mouth isn't too loud. An annoying problem is that your brackets may act like tiny traps for color. There are easy ways to fix this. A lip base gives your gloss something to holfon to; try filling in your mouth with lipliner before putting on lipstick to lock the color in place. You can also try the old school trick of puckering your lips arround your finger while you pull it out of your mouth. Then go wash your hand. Please
Should I smile with my teeth showing?
Yes! Yes! Yes! There's no reason not to-braces are so common, people don';t even think. And frankly, we're firm believers that they make a grin look amazling cute so we say go ahead and glash that smile with confidence.
Be honest, do they hurt?
We're not gona lie. Braces can be extremley painful. Your mouth will feel sore for a couple of days after a little tightening so stick to soft foodds (Go Jello!) A pain reliever like tyylenol may help you wait it out too. And on a day to day basis you can get clear strips of wax specifically for mashing into your wires to keep the metal from rubbing againsdt the insides of yourlips a not-so-pretty but very effective solution.
Do you really have to give up gum?
We wish we had better news for you but yes you do have to say good bye to your beloved Bubbleicious, it may be hard to accept at first but there are good reason. Anything that's super chewy (like caramel and taffy) will wrap along your braces and getting it out can be nearly impossible But that's not all you also have to give up biting into ice and hard candy If you don't your brackets will pop right off of your teeth and bend your wires which can be painful. Plus if that happens you'll have to make an extra trip to the morthodontist to repair the damage. So it's really best if you switch to breathmints and remember not to chew on stuff like Jolly Ranchers and lollipops. Sorry guys [ Lil-keaney's advice column | Ask Lil-keaney A Question ]
