Sun Tanning

Question Posted Sunday June 12 2005, 12:01 pm

I heard that you get more color when you're sun tanning while it's cloudy outside. I've searched all over the internet and can't find out if this is true or not. If anyone knows if this is true please tell me! I'll rate high. Thanks in advance!

P.S. Always use sunscreen!

Actually, cloudiness or sunshine doesn't make a difference. Tanning/burning is caused by UV rays, which easily penetrate cloud cover. When the UV's are strong, you'll get color, be it tan or a strong red, regardless of the clouds.

WONKA_WORLD answered Monday June 13 2005, 11:31 pm:
You get the same color, UV rays get through cloud coverage. The only thing you have to watch out for is burns. Its easier to get burns because of the deciving weather conditions.

I did some research and found this out:
An article said that YOU DO tan better when its cloudy. WHy you may ask? Because clouds are made of water, and when the sun shines through the water the UV Rays are magnified giving you more of a tan.
I'm not sure how true that is, but thats what the article said.

Kissyfurr answered Sunday June 12 2005, 9:11 pm:
Yes! because whenever your outside on a cloudy day you dont notice the heat, and the sun goes through the clouds and makes the rays stronger.
Hoped I helped because i need a 5, lol!! laterz!!

jazzy11 answered Sunday June 12 2005, 12:57 pm:
I think this is wrong. you can not get color if the clouds are out. you can't get a tan outside with the clouds out because the sun is what gives color and if the clouds are covering the sun then none of the heat from the sun won't rub on your body and let you get darker. hoped i helped.

sunshine1232 answered Sunday June 12 2005, 12:51 pm:
for one thing i don't think that is true i went to my friends house and her friend was there they were both tanning and the sun was out and it was really hot that day and they got tan and dark i would use carrot oil or some baby oil that might help because when it is cloudy outside there is hardly any sun when it is sunny outside there is tons of sun so you would have a better chance tanning when there is sun out opposed to a cloudy day.

rnobers answered Sunday June 12 2005, 12:50 pm:
glad to hear this question. i actully just looked in a book about UV rays. here is what its says in general.

the clouds actually filter SOME of the rays out. however, some get through. so people may think to themselves, "well since its cloudy outside, i wont get burned." that is the misconception. But to answer your question, direct sunlight (without the clouds) will make your skin burn quicker. its a fact.

TheWiseAdviser answered Sunday June 12 2005, 12:42 pm:
yeah because it filters the rays or something and thats when people dont think the sun is out so they arent prepared with sunscreen and what not
