sleep

Question Posted Friday June 10 2005, 9:32 pm

I didn't know what to put this under but anyways. Lately I can't sleep at night I just lay there in bed for like 3 hours before I can even sleep at all. Does anyone know what's wrong or how to make me sleep?

That'd been happening to me too! I'd talk to your mom. Maybe she can get you some simply sleep or something [they're supposed to help you skeep]. Try not to think about sleeping, like "I'm never gonna get to sleep tonight!". And try not to think about anything, just relax. Some people do yoga, and that helps. Others have warm milk. I've never tried either, however.

Feel free to IM me at lostxinside87 if you need anything!

Hope I helped!

if you get affected by caffine or sugar, that might be your problem.
others are that you still have engery that you need to use before you get tired. use it by doing something in your room. reading, cleaning, organizing, drawing, etc.
i have a similar problem, so i listen to music or listen to books on tape (listening to someone talking makes me tired). if any of the activities that i have listed don't work, try watching a movie.
exercising before going to bed also helps because then you have used the engery that was stored up.
hope i helped.

It could be because your sleep patterns are messed up.

I assume since your laying in bed for so long your staying up until the wee hours of the morning. If that's the case-- don't sleep in. Wake up at your normal time and then you'll be tired at the end of the day when you go to hop into bed. Give that a week or so to straighten yourself out.

If that doesn't work I would talk to my parents so then you could talk to a doctor about it!

If you'd like to sleep earlier I have some suggestions that might help you. I used to have trouble sleeping.

1. Stay up for a whole 24 hours if you can. If you can't, I'd try to stay awake for as long as you can, taking a quick nap, and waking up. After a day of no sleep, you'll be awfully tired. Wait until the time you'd like to go to sleep (Like 10 PM or something) and then sleep. You'll sleep like a log and you'll be back on track!

2. Maybe you can't sleep earlier because you're on the computer. When I'm on the computer, I can be on for hours and not feel at all sleepy. You should probably limit yourself from the computer.

3. If you're laying in bed and you can't sleep, maybe it's because you have too much on your mind. If that's the case, take a notepad, and write your thoughts down. Clear your head. In the morning you can go back to those ideas later.

4. Listening to classical or boring music might help. Or you can try any music, actually. Whatever works for you.

5. When you're trying to sleep, don't think about anything. Just clear your mind and concentrate on your breathing. Some people think about being on a rollercoaster, concentrating on the twists and turns. You could also try that, however whenever I try that I end up thinking about how fun it was and then I can't fall asleep. Lol.

6. Try reading. Eventually your eyes will get tired and you'll drift off to sleep.

7. Watch TV. You can put it on sleep mode, so it won't be on all night after you've fallen asleep.

8. Eat something and/or milk. You could also try a warm drink, like tea or hot cocoa. After having a full stomach, you might feel sleepy.

9. Take a walk. After a long walk, you'll feel tired and ready for bed.

I hope things work out for you! =)

MFS answered Friday June 10 2005, 9:37 pm:
There could be any number of reasons causing this. If it is really causing a detrimental effect in your life, you really should consider talking to your doctor about it. Insomia is not something to disregard - it can be a sign of other issues (illness, anxiety, etc), and it can cause other issues (oddly, the same list).

Also, look at your eating habits and consider how much physical activity you get - if you eat sporadically or eat particularly unhealthy things, and you don't get much physical activity, those can cause your body chemistry to go all whacky, and can indeed cause insomnia.

But again, this is something I'd suggest you take up with an actual physician.
