I have to go for a breast exam and a pap smear in a couple days and im totally flipping out becuase i just read an article on how and what the doctor does (http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_body/medical_care/obgyn.html) and this is scaring me becuase its the most private part of my body. or parts. the part im most worried about is me being 15 female and my doctor is a male. I feel uncomfortable now and im really driving myself crazy. If anyone has been in my position please tell me anything to make me feel better. thanks so much.

When I first started getting pap smears I was fortunate enough to have a female doctor, but I now have a male doctor, and I have to tell you that it's absolutely no less uncomfortable with a woman than it is with a man.

Like others have said, it will be all very routine and professional for the doctor. There will always be a female nurse in the room at all times, and you have the right to have a family member in the room if you choose to.

Find a place on the ceiling to stare at. I actually went to a gyno that had a few nice pictures on the ceiling. That was nice :)

The breast exam was always a little more odd for me because the doctor will be right next to you, as opposed to out of view. But that's just me.

So, sorry to say, that this is bound to be uncomfortable for you. If you had a woman doctor, it wouldn't really change that. But, after you get done you'll wonder what you were so worried about.

And the whole process of flipping out will start all over again next year when it's time for your next pap smear. :)
