I need toloose ten pounds. I was told cutting out carbs and sugar will do the job. So I cut out all carbs and sugar (ill have very minimal amounts)
Its been 3-4 days already and no results. I havnt lost anything ! Not even .1! How is it possible? I cut out carbs and sugar!!! I don't understand and its making me so upset and ruining my self esteem. I want to loose these ten pounds and I'm struggling so much and its not even paying off

Well, that's not how fat loss works. If you want to lose fat, you need to burn more calories than you take in. Here's some math:

Everyone has a Base Metabolic Rate - this is the number of calories your body would burn by doing absolutely nothing all day. There are lots of calculators online, like this one http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

Then you have the number of calories you burn from moving around, doing your normal day-to-day things, plus whatever exercise you do. Again, there are a lot of calculators for this online, like this one: http://www.internetfitness.com/calculators/calburncalc.htm

Add these 2 numbers together and you get your daily caloric burn.

Eat less than that amount of calories and you will lose weight.

Your caloric burn will change per day depending on how much you move.

It IS possible to put on weight by eating (for example) too much broccoli! You will not lose weight if you simply cut sugar or carbs if you then make up for it by eating a lot of other types of foods. Cutting carbs may give you some initial water loss, but this is not actual fat loss and the weight will come back on as soon as you start eating carbs again.

3-4 days is not a long time in the weight loss world, by the way. Give yourself a week before you weigh yourself.

Hope this helps.

I have the worst time trying to fall asleep.
It's been worse over the summer but even before I just couldn't fall asleep and it'd take me an hour or 2.
I think it started my sophomore year where I couldn't fall asleep. I'm going into my senior year and it's still bothering me. I mean it wasn't every night because I did have some good nights where it'd only take me 20 or 30 min to fall asleep.
I was thinking maybe I was making it into a habit. So I just tried going to bed at 10 or 11 but wouldn't fall asleep till like 12 or 1. I had to wake up at 5:30 for school but my body was used to the hours I slept so it didn't affect my grades or anything.
So I've tried different sleeping times and tried to get used to them but that didn't work. I tried reading before going to bed because people usually fall asleep during that time but that didn't work. Drinking milk didn't help lol. I would just lay there, for hours, just thinking about anything and everything. It's like my mind was still wide awake no matter how tired my eyes were.
I tried writing in my journal to let everything out, but even when I had nothing particular on my mind I couldn't sleep.
Now it's horrible, because last night is where it was really bad. I tried going to bed at midnight but I was laying there forever so I started reading. I read till about 1 or 2. Then laid back down and did not fall asleep till about 6. That was so bad.
When I fall asleep, I'm out. So I didn't wake up till like 1pm. I hate sleeping that late. It's so bad.

When I'm really drained, this isn't often, but I can naps very easily. But when I wake up, I feel sick like I'm going to throw up but I know I'm not going to. It's just my stomach feeling like it's twisting. Soo what's up with that?

Sorry that this was long but it's really starting to bother me and I can't have it be this bad during my senior year.

Hi, I had a lot of trouble with insomnia (not being able to fall asleep as opposed to waking often or early) and I did a few things which helped me a lot, hopefully one of them will help you too:

1. I assume you are not drinking or taking drugs or anything but if you are, stop
2. Substitute all caffeine (coffee, tea, cola) with green tea or water
3. Irrespective of what time you fall asleep, set your alarm to wake up at the same time. Only fell asleep at 6am? Get up at 8am anyway and don't nap during the day
4. As the previous advisor suggested: exercise a lot
5. Take magnesium supplements
6. Don't watch TV or be on the computer too close to bed time
7. Read Paul McKenna's book "I can make you sleep" - there is a technique in there that really, REALLY helped me (which I have spoken about before and I'll quote myself below)
8. Make sure your room & bed are not too hot
9. Take a long bath just before bed time

The Paul McKenna stuff: "There is a technique described in the book about repeating to yourself the image you see in your mind. "I see a red ball. I see an apple. I see a car." etc. It's tedious and boring but I suppose that it the point!"

There are many online document conversion sites on web theses days.
I have to converts lots of pdf pages to word format. Can anyone suggest me that where I can convert those pages with better quality and good services. I also don’t mind to pay for that.

If you don't mind paying then I would suggest you upgrade from Adobe Reader to Adobe Standard or Professional which will then give you a File > Save As option where you will be able to save your PDF as a Word document (.doc)

i'll try to make this fast: i'm 21 yrs old, 5'7", and around 170. i've been trying to lose about 30-40 lbs by fall/winter time. anyways, i just wanted to make sure my daily exercise regimen was a good one and i wanted everyone's opinions so i'm not wasting my time. everyday (except sundays) i do: 20-30 mins of running outside, 30 mins of the elliptical OR 1 hour of cycling class (depending on the day), a few reps of weights. would that help me lose weight? thanks in advance

It's impossible to answer this without knowing what your nutrition is like. To lose weight, you need your calories out to be greater than your calories in.

In very simple terms:

Calories out = Base Metabolic Rate (BMR) + Exercise
Calories in = what you eat & drink

To lose 1 lb a week, your calorie deficit should be 500 calories a day.

Given your stats (I assume you are female) and using this calculator: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ your BMR = 1600

If you eat 1600 calories a day and do the daily exercise you outlined, you will lose weight.

We had a stupid fight because i sprayed his cologne. We argued and carried attitude for about 30 minutes until he called me a worthless ***** then i asked him why would he get mad just because I sprayed his cologne. He told me to say it again and as i said it he punched me right in the mouth and busted my bottom lip. He said he was angry and didn't mean it. We have been together for since freshman year in high school and this has never happened before. what do you think?

If he says he didn't mean it, that makes it WORSE. It means he lost control. What's going to stop him when he loses control again? Nothing. Get out of this relationship right now.

I'm a very restless sleeper and it takes me at least an hour or two for me to actually get sleepy when I lie down in bed. I try and clear my mind, taking calm breathes, but it just doesn't work! I end up rolling around, flailing, even having trouble breathing. I normally sleep with light, classical music. Nothing hard core or with any singing. Just basic, gentle music, but I still can't sleep. I tried no music, it made it worse because I'm naturally a paranoid person. Every little noise, scratch or tap I hear in my room and I freak out, especially now that it's summer vacation and spiders seem to show up a lot in my room and I'm deathly terrified of them. I already know I have a nervous personality, I can't help it! Is there any natural way I can try and calm myself down so I can sleep? Does tea really work? (Also, I'm lactose intolerant, so warm milk wouldn't be very helpful...)

Two things have helped me, namely Paul McKenna's "I can make you sleep" (book) and taking magnesium supplements. There is a technique described in the book about repeating to yourself the image you see in your mind. "I see a red ball. I see an apple. I see a car." etc. It's tedious and boring but I suppose that it the point! Magnesium helped my sleep to be better quality.

Other things you can try: Make sure you are not around any electronics before bed time; stay off the computer and away from the TV. These will overstimulate you and make it harder for you to calm down. You could try taking a bath before bed instead. I have not tried meditation but I would imagine that would also have a calming effect if done right before bed time. You could also try exercise in the late afternoon to wear yourself out (but don't exercise too close to bed time)

So i've never had sex, never seen a vagina in real life. I have had 3 girlfriends if that makes a difference. The farthest i've gone is making out and I felt her up.

The last 2 years I have wanted to have sex really bad, of course it's cause of my hormones and stuff. But I am wondering I have always thought that some girls' vaginas looked better then others, I've watched porn before so yeah, I've noticed I don't like when a girl has really big "lips" sorry for the lack of the name for it. Is this normal for a guy? I've noticed too that i am always worried that this will effect me when i have another girl friend and we get this far.

I am straight too never had thoughts of being gay or anything like that. I am just getting worried that this will be effecting me.

Also I'm worried that i'll get like freaked out when i finger a girl too for the first time because i really don't know what to do and don't know how the vagina and stuff works. My friend told me that girl's have 2 holes there but then it confused me because obviously it can't be 2 like really big separate holes, so that has kinda had me worried too that i'll go into the wrong hole? Can someone clear this up for me?

Well, we all have our individual tastes, don't we. It will depend on the girl as to whether the size of her labia (the "technical" term, which means lips! so you were right :) ) is a dealbreaker for you or not.

Don't worry about getting the wrong hole in the front - the vagina hole is quite big and the other hole where the urine comes out is very small, just below the clit. There is no way you will get a finger or anything else up there.

As to what to do when you get there - ask! Or get her to move your hand/fingers at the beginning so you can get a feel for what she likes.

One word of caution: when you do get that far with a future girlfriend, PLEASE do not compare her body with the women you have seen in pornos. Those women are shaved, tanned, have personal trainers etc. Don't give your girl hangups because of something you have seen in a movie.

I'm 15 and my bf who I've been dating for a while..I just found out that hes cheating on me with some pretty blonde girl who knows I am dating him. How should I tell him or get back at him? and what should I say when I break up with him?

You don't need to get back at him or even say anything. I know you are feeling pretty angry right now and you want to say something that will cut him, but don't. Hold your head high; be the bigger person. Tell him you are breaking up with him because he cheated on you, and that you don't want to communicate with him again. That's it. It will annoy him no end that you have the moral highground. Don't engage with him in a conversation about it - this is not a negotiation. And definitely don't waste any more of your mental and emotional energy on him.

I have never been drunk in my life, and id appreciate it if the only people who wud answer this are people who got drunk, when your drunk, do you know what your doing? do you remember it later on? like lets say some guy is with a girl, and he makes out with someone and says "i was drunk i didnt know what i was doing" is that ever true? cause i hear it ALOT, and then i hear people get calls from their exes when thyre drunk and telling them they miss them and they love them, are drunken words sober thoughts? im LOST.lol

I HAVE been that drunk that I couldn't remember what happened. I had sex with a guy and didn't remember - but I knew I had done it because of how I felt physically. I have also had entire conversations that I can't remember and done many things that people have told me about afterwards, that I can't remember to this day. I used to get text messages the next day from guys who I had chatted to and we swapped numbers, but I couldn't tell you their names, what they looked like, or anything about them. This wasn't every single time I got drunk, only when I drank far too much or when I drank vodka. I used to wake up and immediately check my phone to see if I had contacted anyone.

All that said, I think "I was drunk" can be a convenient excuse, and I have sometimes used it to explain something I did or said that I regret.

I don't drink any more, by the way :)

How can I stop myself from eating so much? I dont have time to go to the gym. How I can I stop eating? food is so good.

You need to incorporate more movement into your day if you want to lose weight. It is not healthy to stop eating. Your body and your heart will thank you if you get a bit more exercise while still providing it all the nutrients it needs. You can increase your NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) in a number of ways, and it's all the usual stuff: take the stairs instead of the lift, do calf raises while you're on the phone, walk further to get your lunch, have stand-up meetings, clean your house more often, get off the bus one stop earlier etc. Even things like fidgeting and moving your legs up and down while you ait will contribute. Just small bits of exercise that you won't even notice can impact your metabolic rate significantly enough that you will start to lose weight.

Im married with 2 kids and there is this male co-worker who would joke that we are soulmates everytime we wore same color of shirt. His bestfriend sometimes teases us too. There are some instance where he would stare into my eyes n hold it for a second. I think im in love with him now? is it love or attraction?

I think what you might have is a "work husband", someone of the opposite sex with whom you have bonded. You will know how each other takes their coffee, you talk a lot about your families and office gossip, you are closer than you are with your other colleagues. I have had several work husbands throughout my career and it certainly makes the day go quicker and more easily! But you are not in love with this person, he is just your "office best friend", while your husband is your real life best friend (one would hope) :)

i want to know why i can't seem to lose weight! it's been a month already. i've controlled my portions, i've cut out sweets, sodas, etc. (i'm asian, so we mostly eat rice and noodles, but i've been watching my intake on that too), i do an hour of cardio/lift weights 6/7 days a week. i don't know what i seem to be doing wrong, i would think i would've lost at least like, 5lbs by now but i don't see any physical results! what am i doing wrong?

This could be due to a variety of reasons, however it all comes down to simple maths: if your calories in is euqual to your calories out then you will not lose weight.

You should work out your daily Base Metabolic Rate (the number of calories your body burns just to keep you alive) - there are various calculators online - and eat that many calories per day. Then, any exercise you do will contribute to weight loss. A 500 calorie per day deficit equals 1 pound lost per week.

If you want to see a big drop quickly, reduce your carbs (i.e. your rice and noodles) or even cut them out completely, and you will see a 1-2lb drop in the space of a week, maybe more. Consider keeping a diary of exactly what you are eating for a week - there may be things that you are eating that you forget about.

Also remember that exercise & weight training increases your appetite so perhaps you are overcompensating for your workouts at dinner time.

So, like the title says, I have a terrible memory. It's really bad. I've just turned seventeen, and I'm a girl. Okay, so it's bad to the point of where someone will ask me a question, and 3 seconds later it will fade away, and I won't remember what they asked. Or, I'm in mid-sentence or story, and I'll forget what I was talking about. I also can't remember things from two or three years ago. It's all a fuzzy blur. I'll read a book and forget some of the plot. I'll get up to get something, and when I get there, I'll forget what on earth I was doing. Or, I'll put some water on the stove to boil, and a minute later I'll forget I'm cooking, and then in 10 minutes smell something weird and realize my water is all evaporated and burned. Or, "Hey Ashley, (Made up name.), can you unload the dishwasher for me? Thanks." -Twenty minutes later- "ASHLEY, you didn't unload the dishwasher!" "I didn't what...? OH crap I forgot!!". I'm known among my friend's for having a terrible memory, but it's like, really scary sometimes. If this has anything to do with it, I don't drink pop a lot, but I do get head aches A LOT, and I get dizzy often. I don't want to make a big deal out of it, so I haven't asked my doctor. I have told my mother, but she waved it off as just me being me. But it's getting to the point where I put something somewhere, and I come back and it isn't there, but no one has touched it, so I must've done something with it! And it's happening way too much and too often now... It's gotten worse over the years. So, I'm just wondering if I should be concerned, or if it's just a normal teenager thing. Help would be appreciated, thanks!

No, this isn't a normal teenages thing, but it could be caused by something simple like fatigue or diet, substance use/abuse.. There are scarier things like early-onset Alzheimer's, tumours etc of course.

I would firstly make sure that you are not overly tired: get lots of sleep, 9+ hours a night if you can. Do you have sleep apnea? That can affect the quality of your sleep.

Next make sure you are eating your omega-3 fats at least 2-3 times a week, things like salmon and other oily fish are good, or take fish oil/omega-3 supplement. Make sure you get enough iron (found in red meat, beans etc) and vitamin B (bananas, milk, peas, wholegrains). If you are taking drugs or drinking, stop.

If these don't work then I would strongly urge you to visit your doctor. That's what they are there for!

Hi there,

Is there a problem with your other account. I noticed you created a new one.

Let me know if there is a way I can help.

Thanks,

DangerNerd.

Hey, thanks for getting back to me :) I couldn't login in with the other account (still can't) so created a new one. If you could update the one I am using now (Pook) with the email address associated with the other account (funb) that would make my life a bit easier - or rather, Google's life a bit easier - as I could shut down the advicenators gmail address and stop the redirect to my usual email address.

I understand if you have a ton of other important things to do though, this isn't a big deal at all :)

I'm 18, and female.

I've never been on a date, and i've never had a boyfriend. Is that normal for someone my age?

I'm told i'm pretty, and I know I have a good personality. I have a lot of close friends. I do a lot of community service and work with my church... i'm the type of person that just loves to help people, and I love most everyone I meet. I'm great with people.

But i've never been asked out... My best friend says it's because my heart is closed... I don't know if I believe her though... I really want a relationship more than anything. I'm self-conscious, but I don't think I let that get in my way... But no one i've liked has ever liked me back.

I guess i'm just wondering what's wrong with me. All of my friends have had multiple boyfriends, and i've never even had anyone interested in me. Not that I know of... I mean, i've never really flirted or put myself out there, but still... it scares me.

I was just like you when I was younger, I never had a boyfriend and all my friends did. It was a combination of factors, mainly to do with my self-confidence but also because I had high standards so subconsciously/consciously I wasn't letting boys in. The more you worry about it, the more "desperate" you get - boys can sense this a mile away and it scares them off. Try to focus on doing things that make you happy, forget about boys if you can. Don't see every boy you meet as a potential, just a friend. Once you are truly happy in yourself, they will be lining up for you.

my soon to be husband moved my daughter and me into his house this past january its been real nice up untill lately his brother lives there also and another room mate well his 40 year old brother doesnt pay rent or pay bills or even buy food for the house he lops around doing nothing at all sleeps all day and up all night. He just recently started being smart towards my family and my daughter by the way she sleeps in the den he has his own room she is 14 and he doesnt give her no privtecy last night i went to cook and he through out all the forks and spoons that i use to cook with . how can i get this loser to leave i have told my boyfriend and he just feels sorry for this bs of a what he thinks is a man i want him to leave i pay the bills and buy food he doesnt do nothing what can i do to get him out ?

The brother is probably just as angry about this as you are - suddenly there is a woman and her daughter in HIS house taking up HIS space! Put yourself in his shoes, this can't be great for him either. You all need to sit down and discuss what the best solution is. I would recommend you and your daughter and fiance finding a place elsewhere and leave the grown up room mates behind to start looking after themselves.

well at school my friends have all fell out with my other friend and i feel sorry formy friend but the others aare my bestfriends i am not taking sides but i just want us all to be back to normal because we cnt all be together at the same time because it wouldntbe fair, what should i do??

This happened to me when I was in school: my group of friends ostracised one girl. I remained friends with her and the group (separately) until, surprise surprise, the group did the exact same thing to me a few months later. I'm glad I kept up the friendship with the other girl as we were able to join another group of nicer people.

Remember you don't have to all be friends together at the same time - it's ok to have more than one set of friends! Any issues between the group and your other friend are their problem.

I have a three year old lab and she will eat literally anything. Hair ties, pencils, paper... She has also destroyed (completely crunched up) pens, plastic tape dispensers, etc and will shred any type of paper. The problem is she only does this when I am not home. When I'm home she does not touch anything that is not hers but when I leave her she always finds something. She's even gone to the point of stealing things out of open backpack pockets during the night. How do I stop this before she hurts herself or needs vet attention? Thank you!

Dogs get bored. This explains why she does it when you are not in, but is fine when you are home. Can you get another dog, a friend to keep her occupied? If not you need to make sure you exercise her regularly and give her a lot of stimulation. You might want to get a lot of chewy toys from the vet or ask your butchers for a bags of hoofs/big bones for her to chew on, so at least when she does it she doesn't hurt herself or swallow anything that will upset her stomach.
