yes
use a StringTokenizer to break the string down into indiviual elements. In this case, I'm assuming you're looking through a sentence for certain words... the string is the entire sentence. A tokenized string creates an array out of the individual words of the string that is then searchable.

I think there was a general malaise/discontent with society. Musically, the younger crowd was growing tired of the "dinosaurs" such as the Stones and Zeppelin and wanted a music that they could better related to... with their general anger and vigor, and their political insight as good number of them had, punk grew from that... a simple yet upbeat music, played fast - and it could be either friendly or angry. The lyrics ranged from shallow tripe to deep political statements.
That is an vastly oversimplified answer, but a good approximation as any.

Ok this is going to be a semi-novel but I'll try to make sense. I'm 15 and at the beginning of September I met a guy(whom we'll call Bob).We were friends for a little over a month,and around the middle of October we kissed for the first time;he asked me out very soon afterword.our mutual friends had been bugging Bob to ask me out because it was obvious he liked me.He made the announcement to our them that he asked me out and it was understood that we were a couple.so from that day on, tho we never went anywhere(lack of money and transportation played a major role )but we still managed to kiss at every opportunity(including behind the school at lunch)and took every opportunity we could to be together. One day, we were talking and I mentioned that a friend of mine who(that I have known since childhood was jealous)that we're a couple; he says "well you know, i only see us as friends and plus there's this girl i'm interested in.she lives in maryland" and I go "but i'm here.she's there and I'm here" and he goes "well I've known her since july.plus i helped her through a serious breakup..." and I go "so why did you ask me out?why do you kiss me if we're only friends?" he goes "I don't know" so we weren't talking much for about a week and then suddenly we started up with our old routines. I knew people who were "goths" early on. For them, it meant something.
But now it is just "trendy" to be 'punk' or 'goth' because lame-ass stores like "Hot Topic" and whatnot sell lots of black shit. Brilliant.
Not being born in the 70s is no excuse for not understanding what the punks were all about. People who "dress" like them, without understanding the history, are only insulting the people who started the movement.

Love.
That word gets used an awful lot, for many varying purposes. I don't care to dwell on the use as it stands for physical possesions. I will be discussing the use of the word as it exists between two people, and its implications.
Love truly is one of the more nebulous emotions. Love can manifest itself in many different forms. But even with all that, so many seem to use the poor word to death, misunderstanding what it represents. Love is not something to take lightly. It is a very serious emotion that says a great deal about the state of a relationship between two people.
Let us first look at misuse of the word.
The first, and probably most common, misuse of the term "love" occurs with people who are too naive to appreciate love. They may share a fondness for each other, perhaps with a physical aspect to the relationship. Often, what is mistaken as love is merely a physical attraction, or even an addiction. This is clearly not love. Perhaps a well intended lust, but not love.
The other main misuse of the word love is in the biblical sense. Not that using the word love in such situations is fundamentally wrong, it is just not the same kind of "love" being referred to here. "Love your neighbor" just isn't the same as loving your spouse/significant other.
So, how is the word "love" used, or maybe, where is "love" sometimes forgotten?
The easiest example is when expressing the feeling you share with your spouse/significant other. One way of thinking about love is how it feels when the object of your emotion is away: you have that longing, an emptiness inside you from their absence. It isn't pain, and yet you don't dislike the feeling, because it is reminding you of how much you care for that person, how much you want to be with them.
Love is wanting that person to be happy, and the urge or desire to go out of your way to do so.
Where this is forgotten is in dealing with close friends.
It is quite possible for someone to care quite deeply about their friends, or at least some of them. With friends, you share a bond, a kinship, and from that bond, a trust is formed. When a friend is in need, you may find yourself going out of your way to help them. Make no mistake, this is love.
Why is love not used in such situations? Because of certain stigmas that exist. Often, this friendship exists between two people of the same gender, or just two people who are not romantically involved. The thought of calling an aspect of their friendship "love" can be unnerving and terribly awkward.
The final type of love I will touch upon is the kind of love a parent feels towards their children. There is nothing more precious than getting to see your first child immediately after birth - few things are more special than holding a tiny baby for the first time. Then you get to watch your child grow, to learn, to play, to become their own person. That child is a part of you, and you a part of them. The child stands as a monument of sorts, a union of two people into the creation of a new person.
And so there you have it, some ramblings over a 4 letter word that too many use too often for the wrong things, and not enough for the right things.

My boyfriend calls himself a Christian but doesn't go to church. I'm not a religious fanatic or anything, actually I'm pretty liberal and my church is too, but he's still really reluctant to go to church with me. He seems to really dislike organized religion. I understand where he's coming from, but he won't even give my church a chance... we're really cool. I'd love it if he'd go to church with me, I think it'd be fun, and frankly it freaks me out that he's so afraid to try new things. What do you think? (link)
