about

I've been away for a while due to a serious illness and subsequent health issues.

Favourite quotes of the moment:

The children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years - Even in biblical times men wouldn't ask for directions!

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. whatever we do to the thread, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. - Chief Seattle.

We spend the first 12 months of a child's life teaching them to walk and talk. We spend the next 12 years telling them to sit down and shut up!

As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never be pointing the wrong way.

May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

I've been very happily married since August 1980 to a wonderful man and have beautiful twin girls, now aged 31. Both are married to wonderful young men and one of our girls has recently made us grandparents to a beautiful, smart and feisty granddaughter. I studied geology with the Open University. I am retired from being a manager in a large UK based insurance company which I actually quite enjoyed. (How sad is that?). I love anything to do with the environment and wildlife and try to do my bit for preservation and conservation. I would like there to be a decent world for our grandchildren to inherit. I also have CFS so find life a bit of a challenge at times but always hope for better health in the future.

I have a deep interest in the spiritual and the paranormal worlds, having experienced several incidents myself, and have been involved in meditation groups and groups that (safely) explore the paranormal. There is more to this life than we would normally credit, so an open mind is always the best option. You're not so likely to get caught by surprise!

I have a deep fascination for anything to do with Ancient Egypt, as you can probably tell by my name. I have statues and paintings all around the house. As my hubby has a similar interest in Native Americans, we tend to have a lot of unusual wall decorations, like a tomahawk.

I love cars, especially vintage ones, but my all time favourite has to be the Bugatti Chiron, what a car!

I have had a lot to do with animals over the years. I have fostered many, helped to set up a wildlife charitable hospital and raised a diverse range of young animals from bats to fox cubs and different species of birds, even a baby deer! I have had great pleasure in sharing my life and home with a number of animals over the years, most of them rescues. I am currently sponsoring an Amur Tiger, they are such beautiful cats and desperately need help, there are so few of them left. I was lucky enough a couple of years ago to meet some Aye-Aye's and Livingstone's Bats, a truly wonderful experience. We now have three cats, Oliver and Mollie, a brother and sister, he's a ginger and she's a tortoiseshell and a black and white called Daisy. She arrived in a taxi and was left on our doorstep in a cat carrier with the message that 'they knew we loved cats and would be good to her'. She has settled down well and gets on wonderfully with the other two.

If you have a pet that is showing ANY signs of illness or distress, please, please, please take it to a vet! Even if finance is an issue, work that out later. It is cruel to leave an animal suffering for any reason. Most animals do not show signs of illness until they have been ill for some time, basic instinct tells them it is a display of vulnerability, and certain death in the wild. Their instincts have not caught up with domesticity.

I do feel that we should all treat others as we would wish to be treated. Bad karma comes back to haunt us.

advice

okay so maybe im just crazy but lately, everything my parents have ever done for me has suddenly come crashing down on me like a wave. like now im trying to have them do the least for me because i feel just so...i guess i could say sad because i don't want them giving up everything for me. like i regret doing and saying bad things. and i know when they are gone im going to regret everyhting and i won't be able to say im sorry. what can i do to feel better about this?

It sounds as though you are maturing. You are realising that the world does not revolve around you and other people are affected by the way you act and the things you do and say.
That is a good thing but don't let it worry you, parents understand that this comes with the package of having kids and at some point (hopefully) the children will understand just what their parents do do for them.
I would suggest that maybe you could prepare a meal for them, sit them down and tell them how you feel, that you really appreciate everything they have done for you and that you will attempt to show this appreciation more in the future.
My guess is that they will be thrilled that they have brought you up to become so responsible and will understand and accept what you are saying to them. You can tell them that although you have had this 'epiphany' that it doesn't mean you won't slip occasionally, after all, you are human. Just don't leave them with all the washing up.
Best of luck to you.

Okay well I get sick way to often =[
sense thursday night ive been running fevers on and off i get chills so horribly my teeth chatter =[ i take medicene which helps it for a lil and then it comes back just as bad as before. and this happened like 3 weeks ago also.. i really dont think this isnormal and im freaked out, please help me
ill rate high

If you are under a lot of stress, your immune system could be affected, making it easier for you pick up any infections doing the rounds.
Try to get enough sleep, eat sensibly, try to destress and if it continues, go see a doctor. You shouldn't get ill that often and you may have a persistent virus you are unable to shift. The doctor can do tests to check.
Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

I am looking to find a part-time paying work of any kind that I can do from home. With going to school full time and taking care of my son, I want to bring in a little extra income. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!!

You could try a party plan job of some kind. There are lots to choose from, from makeup, clothes, shoes and health treatments to kitchenware items. It also gives you the chance to socialise while earning.
If you're good at ironing and don't mind doing it, you could look at being a part timer ironer. You could place adverts in local shops specifying what type of ironing you would do.
You should be wary of jobs where you are paid on production, as all sorts of excuses could be made to not pay you for what you have done. Also of any "too good to be true" jobs, as they will be!
It sounds as though you already have a pretty full schedule, so try not to overdo it, money is good, but your son won't be young forever.
Hope that helps, best of luck in your search.

my boyfriend(19) and I(18) have been together over 2 months and he suggested sleeping together this weekend. We're both virgins but we discussed contraception etc and i do feel ready for it but my university entrance exams are in two weeks and are the most important exams i will ever do. I think ill be too stressed to be able to enjoy it and id like to wait til after the exams. (a month or so) he says he doesnt mind and ive said id like to do other stuff with him but i still feel as if an innocence is gone from our relationship and its made me very depressed.I feel like the issue is hanging in the air and that sex is all that matters. How can I clear the air?please help,i cant study properly for exams!

As he seems so understanding you need to talk about this. You can't afford to be depressed at this time and i'm sure he would agree.
It may feel as if an innocence has gone from your relationship but it hasn't really, it's still there but it's been caught up in the situation.
The first time should be a wonderful experience, not stressed and rushed.
It's a good idea to wait until after your exams, you've only been together two months so you don't need to be in such a hurry. There are other things you can do in the meantime.
I would suggest you relax, study, take your exams and then give your boyfriend your full attention after all the exam pressure is over. You will both enjoy it more and you may find that after talking openly about it, the waiting becomes exciting in itself.
Hope that helps and good luck with the exams.

I turned vegetarian a couple of weeks ago. Just today I woke up with a really high fever, and I feel like i'm going to throw up.
Is my body going into shock or something?
Or is it just a normal flu/cold or whatever..?

Oh yeah; and im 14/f[:

A vegetarian diet should not cause any adverse symptoms as long as you ensure you are following a healthy eating plan. It can even improve your health as you no longer eat saturated fats.
It does sound as though you are suffering from a totally unrelated illness, possibly a viral infection. If it does not get better in a couple of days or if you are unable to drink enough fluids, you should a doctor. Try to rest as much as you can until you are feeing better.
Good luck.

okay..
last year, i was a freshman, and this kid was a junior. we talked a lot and started to like him, but i knew nothing could happen. we stopped talking for a little over a year. now im a sophomore and he's a senior. we we started talking again last week. there are 15 school days left. and i think i like him again. he's leaving for college in the fall. and i probably won't seem for 5 years or so. what do i do. i highlu doubt he thinks of me in the way i think of him. but i'm not sure. what do i do?

A difficult situation for you. You could suggest you keep in touch by e mail etc, as you are interested in his progress, if he seems happy with that, it gives you something to build on.
The sad fact of life is that we make these connections as we grow to adulthood and most of them tend to fade away in time. However, they are replaced by others. It's lifes way of preparing us for the real love of our life. Without these little 'testers' we might not recognise it when it arrives.
He may be 'the one' but it seems more likely that with the timing, he is helping to prepare you for a more meaningful relationship in the years to come.
You seem to be a caring person and the right person is out there waiting for you. Enjoy your life, stay in touch if he's happy to do so and wait to see what unfolds.
Best of luck to you.

my toy breed 4.5lb 1 1/2 years old is throwing up blood what can I do?

Vets immediately! It could have swallowed something that has pierced her stomach, etc. or it be even more serious. Either way a small dog, like a baby, cannot afford to lose much blood before it's too late to do anything more for it.
Best of luck.

does anyone know,is there such thing as a pushup-padded bra? whats the smalled bra you could get thats like that?(or at least one of those..push-up or padded) and also, what it the smallest bra size(how much does your bust have to be to fit into the smallest size?) any other tips you reccomend? thankyou!!

Wonderbras are good, and if you want to show cleavage, try a balcony bra. They make you look great without showing the material.
Go to a dedicated underwear shop where the assistants will measure you and ensure you have the right bra for your size, shape and what you want it to do. Most people wear the wrong size bra, and it shows.
The smallest bra size is a 30AA (that is in the UK, if you're anywhere else, the sizes may differ). The smaller bra sizes are quite often padded and pushup to make the most of what you have. Again, an experienced assistant will be able to help.
I would also suggest that you never go cheap on a bra, the better the bra, the better you will look. Never machine wash, always handwash as it will make it last longer. Get one that you have to do up on the loosest catch, as it will stretch with wear and then you can go to a tighter catch.
Hope that helps, good luck.

how long after sex can you tell if you're pregnant and what are some of the sypmtoms?

You can tell quite soon, there is a pregnancy test available now that will let you know the next day.
Some of the first symptoms, include sore/tender breasts, needing to urinate more frequently, feeling unnaturally tired/irritable/dizzy and after a while nausea and/or vomiting.
There are also lots of websites and books to help further.
Hope that helps.

You know where the pee comes outta? Well, I have a little gray ball that hangs down from it. It's not normal. And I've gotten this little ball, twice. The last time it went away. It hurts, especially when I'm walking. The doctor said it was nothing. Has anyone ever had this or know what I should do. Ahh, last time it took a month for it to go away. Would it have something to do with the underwear I'm using?

I know this is totally gross, but I really need some advice!! =(

It certainly isn't normal! It could be anything from a polyp (which is a small growth on the surface of a mucus membrane), to a prolapsed bladder, which is slightly more serious.
I would doubt it has anything to do with the underwear you use and you should not be in pain.
You really need to either go back to the doctor and insist on a further examination and explanation or see a different doctor.
Good luck.

Do you know a forum about propehtic dreaming with active people? I tried all over google but the ones I find are either dead or about dream interpritation.

Difficult one to answer, I have looked as well and could only find the ones listed below.
You don't say if you have prophetic dreams or if you are just interested in them for a project etc.
If you are experiencing them I could try to help or you may like to start up your own site. This is becoming a subject of great interest in recent years, as more people are willing to admit to having them. Therefore, if you do want to start your own site, you will probably have a good response.
Hope that helps. good luck.

ok i need some serious advice on how to make it so that i accually wake up when my alarm clock goes off because normally i just shut ot off and then go back to sleep... and i cant move it because there is no where else to plug it in. and ive tried moving it away from my bed but then when it goes off i just get up, bring it near my bed, and go back to sleep. i have no idea what to do... i cant go to sleep earlier because i cant fall asleep till 11, i dont get ttired till then....would some one help me please?

You could try putting the alarm in a saucepan, the noise is so ear shatteringly awful, it would wake the dead!
Failing that there are a variety of alarm clocks that make sure you are awake, including one that will walk along the bedside table and fall on you. If it doesn't concuss you, you should be disturbed enough to not go back to sleep.
Good luck.

i know this may sound stupid but what does it mean when someone is outspoken??

thanks in advancee!!

ps
5s for anythinggg!

Outspoken is saying whatever you feel or think without regard for the consequences. It is frank, honest and direct. It can be a good thing as it is generally a true response. However, some people who may be feeling fragile might not take it too well. So it is usually best to judge a situation as to when it is appropriate to be outspoken and when to be diplomatic.
Hope that helps.

I recently found a very young bird at an age of approximatly 3 days. I have taken care of it and it is well now, however, I have no idea how to determine the sex of the bird or what kind it is! Can someone help me?

With most birds, unless it has defining colours to show what sex it is, it will not be obvious until it is ready to mate, and then you should have no doubts by its behaviour. I would not recommend any investigations on this unless done by a vet, as usually it needs a surgical procedure to tell.
Depending on whether it is a wild or 'domestic' bird, there are books you can look in or try google with "bird identification". You can add wild or pet to narrow the search.
If it is wild bird and you are eventually going to let it go, it will need a large area in which to strengthen its wings prior to release. Unless this is done it will not be able to fly away from predators. The alternative is to find a bird sanctuary that would be willing to take it.
If it is 'domestic' bird, someone could be looking for it, so you could an advertisment in a shop window.
Hope that helps, good luck.

Does anyone know how or where I can find an accurate, reliable place that I can go to to find my family tree (like trace my ancestors). Lately, I have become very interested in this topic and my family members cannot provide me with as much information as I am curious of.

I deeply appreciate your help.

The Church of the Latter Day Saints or Mormons have been compiling information on this for many years. They now have the largest free research records in the world.
If you have the names and dates of birth/death of your immediate ancestors, the site shows you how to get started. Log on to their website and enter the information. It will also tell you the whereabouts of a local Family History Centre if you want to go in person.
You can also try church records, registry offices and on line sites, but the on line sites generally ask you to take membership.
Hope that helps, good luck.

ok, this is kinda wierd asking...but, whenever I go poop...when I wipe, there is bright red blood...is something wrong?!?!?!

your advice is greatly appreciated!

The brighter red the colour the nearer to the exit it started from. It sounds as if you have either been constipated and have torn yourself straining, or you don't have enough fibre/water in your diet so your motions are not passing as well as they should or you have haemorrhoids, which are swollen veins in the anus, and when you go to the toilet the pressure of your motions causes them to break.
If there is not a lot of blood and it stays bright red, try eating more fibre, get some haemorroid cream from your pharmacy, drink plenty of water and try not to strain.
If there is a lot of blood, or it changes to a darker red/black, or if you are really concerned, go and see your doctor, who will either reassure you there is nothing to worry about or arrange some tests to investigate.
Either way, with any health issues that concern you, you should always check it out with a doctor.
Good luck.

Hi all I am 28 years old and I have a daughter who is going to be 9 this year and she has been asking me how babies get into the tummy and what pads are for and I am having truble getting the right way to say it...As I dont remember my mom talking to me about it...But I wont to be the one to tell her so she will be able to talk to me about anything....I was not comfertable talking to my mom and I wont my daughter to be able to talk to me.......if anyone could help me please do.thanks

It's great you want to be open with your daughter but it is hard to know where to start. You could begin by just answering her basic questions, children just want the answers to their immediate questions, so there would be no need to get too involved at this stage.
If she wants to know more, there is a great range of books available that you can read together, 'where do I come from' etc. You can ask at most book stores or on line stockists.
If you are open with her now, she will know she can come to you with any problem and that is a huge advantage these days.
Good luck.

i have six dogs. they are all pretty old. one of my dog is blind, and 3 of them are diabetics. my mom says that chow chow will have to be put to sleep because she is blind and she bites to many people. i'm not sur if i should keep all of them or give them away. i love all of my dogs and i don't want to put anyof them to sleep. should i put them to sleep? or should i keep them. by the way they all are in pain and i know it but their my best friends.
thank you i rate high

You don't say if the chow chow bit people before she went blind and was in pain. Quite often in these circumstances an animal will bite, but it's a defensive mechanism so they can't help it.
I really do understand how hard it is to lose a loved pet, but you always have to think about what is best for them, not you. If their quality of life is bad, it is better to have them put to sleep, it's the last thing you can do for them.
Take plenty of pictures and maybe a sample of their hair. Spend as much time as you can with them and then let them go in love.
It will hurt you and it won't be easy, you may never actually get over it but you will come to terms with it. It's easier when you know you have done the best thing for them.
You obviously have a lot of love in you and maybe some day you will be able to share that love with another needy dog. Take courage in what is the right thing to do.
Good luck.

Okay I need help with batting, yes I've played baseball before, and I used to be the best batter on the team, but after 2 years of no practice, I suck at it. I have to way to practice batting without a pitcher, and I don't have one, my dad will not help and my brother is 3 so he can't and my mom sucks at base ball altogether how would I practice since I live in a town(the nearest city is like 30 miles away)small at that, unless I practice onnly at practice? and i'm 13/f. I'll rate 5 for good answers. thanks in advance, JJ

You could try a tee-ball stand, the height is adjustable, and maybe a net if you don't want to go too far to collect the ball after you have hit it.
Another option would be to suggest a baseball club at your school, this will give you and others the chance to practice.
Hope that helps, good luck.

We had a dog who would always use its paws to try to move the blankets ( rake ) and he did it for no reason, and kept moving it, he did it everytime we went to bed.
Then he died, and we got a new dog, who is a girl, and she does the same thing.. and I am just wondering why she does that?

Dogs still have primitive instincts, and one of them is to make their beds comfortable as they would have done in the wild to flatten grass etc into a nest. Most dogs will do this, you may also see them scratching after they have toileted outside, this is an attempt to hide it from any predators.
Hope that helps.
