about

For the most part I'm good with car and animal related questions, but I'll answer other stuff if its something I feel I know enough about.
Ask me anything, and I'll give it my best shot.

Just dont ask me anything about the chances of you being pregnant.

Or if s/he likes you or not.

Or if you're fat. (I'll say yes no matter what)

advice

so, i just got a laptop last night, and my mom said that she will get me a router(sp?) for my birthday in 2 months. and i have a few questions about routers.

1. we have itnernet through the phone company, so, even if im in my bedroom, with a router, i can still get internet?

2. how much does a good one cost?

3. do you have to charge it like, over night or whatever?

4. am i going to have to call anyone or activate the router, or do i just plug it in, and it works?

thanks for all your help!

1. Yes, you should be able to get wireless anywere in your house.

2. you can get a decent netgear router for 30-40 dollars. Linksys makes a better one for around 50-60.

3. No, no batteries or charging.

4. No, plug it in and set it up with your computer. There are instructions on how to do this with the router.

Recently I have seemed to be quite unwell..Im experiencing allsorts of different pains that seem to vary everyday.

What triggered me to type this was about 2 minutes ago, I suddenly went dizzy, and straight after, I got an excruciating stomach pain, and recently I have been feeling not sick..but like somethings in my throat just after Ive eaten, and when I swallow it doesnt feel quite right.

I am always getting headaches, and Im not pregnant, I really cant think of anything thats causing these pains and dizziness? Any help would be appreciated.

You definatley need to consult a doctor. I really doubt that anyone here can give you a definative answer as to whats going on.
So, call your family doctor tomorrow morning (or have a parent do it) and describe the symptoms to them. It may be something very simple, or it could be much worse. Generally speaking, frequent headaches, stomach pain, and dizziness is NOT a good sign, so I repeat: Tell your parent/s about this, and call or have someone call the doctor for a consultation. Like, SOON.

I woke up this morning and when i looked in the mirror, there was this black circle on my neck! It's like a black hickey or something! i'm 14 so obviously it's nothing from sexual stuff but that wasn't there yesterday either; I just woke up this morning and there it was!

my parents won't be home until next week so I can't go to the doctors or anything!

Do you think it's serious? I was hoping that maybe i wasn't washing myself properly or something so i first wiped aqt it with a paper towel but nothing came out! I'm really scared, and especially scared for school. This is my first year of highschool and people seeing thsi on me won't make it any better.

Perhaps you cant go to the doctor, but you could at least call him/her to get an opinion. If worst comes to worst you can arrange for a friend parent, taxi, etc. to drive you to the doctor if they think its an issue.

Also, are you sure that it wasnt a friend drawing on you? Somehow you slept on or came in contact with ink or paint of sorts?

Im not an expert, but Ive seen other people advise using cover-up on hickeys, so logic says it would work for you too.

is there a way to save a video to your computer off youtube?

Yes. If you dont use Mozilla Firefox, dowload and install it, then go Here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006 and install the download helper. When it recognizes a video, like on youtube it animates the icon. You can then click on the icon and download the video.

Is there a web site that is a US version of the UKs UCAS???

thanks in advance for your help!

As I understand it in the UK you have to apply through UCAS to get into a college in the UK, while here In the U.S. we apply directly to each individual college without going through a separate organization.
So, no. There is no US version of UCAS.

can anyone tell me what food is not good for your dog (human food) this is what my dog get occasionaly:
~coke slushy
~banana~pretty much like almost all fruit except grapes
~ice cream
~pretzel
~honey
~bread
~parts of an oatmeal cookie
~baby carrots (every day)
~(celery (every day)
~Peanutbutter (little everyday with pills he takes for hip displasia)
~um, pretty much like partially almost everything i eat...but not exactaly EVERYTHING
Ps
my dog is very healthy, and not fat, i do not give him all of these things everyday, i just want to know what is harmful to him and whatnot. thanks :-]

In addition to Kc's link (which is a very good source) I would like to add that you should not feed your dog processed foods (except dog food of course). Basically, If it comes out of a package/wrapping and is meant for humans, its not too healthy for dogs.
But, vegetables are very healthy. If your dog willingly eats carrots and celery then good for both of you. They are both more than fine for him to eat.

slim jim food, is it safe for chihuahua to eat it? which food is good for my chihuahua to eat without gettin sick?

Which food is safe for your dog?
DOG FOOD. Thats what its made for; dogs. If you want to give your dog simple around the house treat, use small peices of sandwich meat, or you could do what most people do and buy DOG treats.
Slim Jims are not good for people, let alone dogs. They are chock full of nasty preservatives, and generally not healthy.
Again, there is a reason that make dog food...To feed it to dogs.

Zase som to urobila. Nepýtaj sa ma prečo. Odpoveď nikdy nedostaneš. Rozmýšľaj... Chces to počuť? Ty si jediný človek, ktorý ma dokáže zachrániť z blúdneho kruku, do ktorého som sa dostala. Prečo sa nechytíš šance, ktoraňá sa Ti ponúka? Čoho sa tak bojíš? Nechcela som to urobiť. A vlastne chcela, inak by som to neurobila. Som v slepej uličke, prídi a otoč ma na správny smer. Ja Ti chcem dôverovať, na opátku môžeš Ty mne. Chcem presne to čo Ty. Už ma to nebaví. Nudíš sa? Môžes porátať všetky značky, čo na mne nechal život sám. Príď a zachráň ma- zhorím vo vnútri
Príď a zachráň ma- nezvládnem to bez teba

I need a car, but my parents refuse to buy one for me (they can afford it, though, but they absolutely refuse).

If I were to get a car, I would have to pay for the car, the insurance, the gas... EVERYTHING.

I drive about 300 miles a week, most of it on freeways, so I need a car that has airbags, and is safe in general to drive, and has very good breaks.

I have two jobs, one of them my hours are scattered and unpredictable, the other its more predictable; I earn about 400 dollars a month, then some (it really just depends how much.. sometimes 20, sometimes 300, sometimes 0 at my other unpredictable job)

My question(s):

What type of car should I get, that doesn't eat too much gas, like what's a good model?

Any general advice on buying a used car? I know NOTHING about them.

I will be paying about 200 bucks for my car insurance a month, and gas here costs about 2.30 per gallon. Can I still afford to have a car? I mean I'll have to be making monthly payments and stuff when to pay off my car, right? Keep in mind I drive 300 miles per week.

So, in short, keeping in mind all the details, what car should I get for what price? Or if you don't know about what car, what should be my price range?

My parents aren't helping me at all in this, including estimating my price range.

Thank you so much, and I prefer adults answer this that have some experience in finance.

I'm turning 17 in March, by the way, and I'm a girl.

Yes I agree with Nova, Id just like to add on. I second that you should not go to to a used car lot, buy it outright from a private seller. I just think that you should go for something a little more expensive, like 2000. I'm in the school of thought that buying a nicer car that will last longer is better than buying a piece of junk that will last less miles/years.

Nova is also right about that insurance number being high. See if you can get the car under one of your parents names, then simply add your name to their insurance plan as a primary driver on that car. It will cost way less that way.

2.30 a gallon!! Its frickin 3.15 were I am...Feel lucky. oh, and 300 miles a week isnt so bad if you get a car with good miles per gallon.

Speaking of cars with good MPG's that are reliable, I strongly recommend the Honda Civic, Honda Accord, and then the Toyota Corolla. Any model Civic or Accord will do, but the hatchback Civics tend to get better mileage, and the EX model accord is less expensive.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask.
Good luck!

i have a 1997 z/28 ls1 camaro. i want to put a cold air intake in it,do i need anything? or is it just a bolt on performance upgrade?

Pink lady is right, and to add on to it, you already have cold air intake. What you want is an upgrade, a high performance intake assembly/kit. Something like this :http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQChevroletQQCamaroQQK-and-NQQCold_Air_IntakeQQ19951997QQK335730101.html
It takes all of 10 minutes to swap out. A few clamps, hoses, and your good to go.

We have a 19-week-old female standard poodle. We are having problems housetraining her. We got her at about 14 weeks, and we thought that she was trained not to go potty in the house within two weeks. but recently she started going inside the house. It's not because she can't get outside... No! It's happened several times that we will let her out four times within an hour, and then she'll wet inside the house a few minutes later, in plain view. We had trained her to ask to go outside when she needed to go, but she only asks to go outside now when she's bored. But the thing that irks us is we know she can hold her water! We can leave her in her kennel for three hours at a time while we go somewhere, and she won't wet in there. But we come home, let her outside, and five minutes after she gets back inside, she wets! We put her in her kennel and punish her for it, we take the smell out of the carpet, but she still goes inside! What caused this and how can we stop it?

You can, no matter what the dog, get it to do what you want it to. Weather that be going to the bathroom outside, or running trough an obstacle course. It all depends on how you train them, and what incentives you use that the dog looks forward to.

A popular way to train a dog to go to the bathroom outside is to crate it for a couple of hours, then go outside to a designated spot with it (it helps if its kinda out of the way) and literally wait as long as it takes for the dog to do its buisness. When it does you give it lots of praise and a treat, so that it understands that you are pleased when it goes to the bathroom in that spot. The dog is always looking to please its owner, and when you let it know that this is what you want it to do, and that it will get something good out of doing it, it will soon do it without prompt.

This could take some time, but done right it will work.

Good luck.

I'm in love with my stepsister. She's fun to be around and jokes around alot and she's beautiful to me. I'm terrified of rejection so what should i do?

Ditto to Mangymomma, your treading on VERY dangerous ground here. Forget that you had feelings for her. If you pursue this some very bad things could happen.

Okay, well I am 16 years old. And I looking for a car. Any advice on what type of car I should get. I like small cars, but not that small. No hummer-like cars and no beatle-like cars. I want it simple. Thanks in advance!

oh, and does anyone know what kind of car this is:

First, the car you gave a link to is certainly not a mustang. My best guess, though I really don't know is that its a Mitsubishi with some body kits.

Second, I recommend the Honda Civic, Honda Accord (larger and more expensive than the Civic), and the Toyota Carolla.

All three choices have an excellent reliability record, are fairly small, and depending on the model can be very fuel efficient while still having great performance.

Feel free to ask any more questions.

ok so im 14/f and still TERRIFIED of the dark. every night when i go to sleep i imagine murderers breaking in and killing me. I don't watch scary movies anymore, just a few here and there. the old ones still come back to haunt me, i'll remember any scary thought when it's nighttime. the fact that my house is PITCH BLACK at night doesn't help at all either. i really really desperately need help, i'm scared to go to bed at night. i can't even get up to go pee because im scared the killer with "hear me". i want to use a nightlight, but i don't want my parents to think i'm a wuss, i mean i'm 14!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me find a way to be comfortable in my own house at night.

Well, first off thanks for asking me.

Frankly I'm not quite sure how to answer this, but i certainly understand your problem.
Being afraid of the dark is a legitimate and very common fear, many people much older than you are in the same situation.
I guess my point is that its not really something to feel ashamed about, and that it shouldn't matter what other people think about you.
So, I suggest leaving your bedside lamp on or something like that, and if anyone asks just say that you like sleeping with a light on.

And thinking about it logically, what are the chances of some killer breaking into your house and murdering you? Next to none.

So, turn a light on, close the blinds, whatever helps you sleep. And think about it logically, the fear though real, is ridiculous.
Over time you need to learn to get over it and convince yourself that nothing bad is going to happen to you, that there aren't monsters under the bed, and there aren't axe murderers in the hallway closet.

Good luck, just remember that its ok to be afraid of the dark, and that you can get over it eventually.

I am going to Costa Rica with my family, and we still have not set out a schedule. I am more of the go-with-the-flow type, so I rarely plan activities in advance, regardless of the situation. This time around ,however, is a bit different. We still need to decide on which areas to see, where to stay, etc.

For anyone who is familiar with Costa Rica, either through traveling or living there, any information on the following is appreciated:

- Which parts of the country (cities, sites, etc.) do you recommend the most? We would love to just see nature, beaches, etc., and as much as possible, try to stay away from the crowds.

-What is the transportation like there? Which mode is preferred?

- What activities do you recommend? Although I don't want to pack our schedule too much (we would love to just relax too), I think it would still be great to experience some fun things too.

Thank you!

Some places that I recommend from my trip to Costa Rica are:

Monteverde- its waaay up in the mountains, and has a really cool rainforest with guided hikes.
http://www.monteverdeinfo.com/
There are also some really cool canopy tours (zip lines).

Arenal-its right next to a volcano. Are natural hot springs that make great hot tubs, its really cool. At night if you look to the mountain you can see it glowing orange. http://www.arenal.net/
We stayed at the Tabacon hotel, REALLY nice, but pricey.

Playas del Coco was a really nice beach town, with great swimming and activities. you can go snorkeling, diving, atv tours,etc...
http://www.vacationcity.com/costa-rica/destinations/playa-del-coco/

You asked about transportation-Renting a car is the best way, just make sure you have a few good maps, and advice from hotel staff on how to get where your going next. If you rent a car go for a Honda CR-V, or a Toyota RAV-4, trust me, it you do anything off the main roads (which is the most fun)you'll need four wheel drive.

If you've got any other questions just ask me.
Cheers,
L

How does a dog act if had got poisioned or he had distemper?
Please tell me whats going on with my dog, I don't know whats going on, cause he's showing signs of distemper or he had gotten poisioned.

Yesterday he was inside (he's an outside dog) and he was laying on the floor, and I was going to shut my door, so I said "move twix" and when you say that, he will get up, but it took him a minute, and he walked through the kitched and he was wobbling, like you'd be if you was drunk, and well, we put him out, and he ran to the water bowl and got something to drink really fast, and then, he layed down, and was foaming from the mouth, and the next day he was moaning a little bit, and he wouldn't move at all, it's like he was paralyzed. Well, a few hours later my dad came home, and looked at him, and tried to pick his head up/body but it's like he was dead but still alive, like he couldn't blink or anything. It was like a coma. All he was doing was breathling loudly, and slower&slower. The weird thing is, before all this happened, it was the morning time, he was running around, and he looked perfect.

Well, just a few hours ago, he died. Did he get poisoned, or bit by a snake maybe, or did he have distemper?
If he had distemper, should we bleach our whole yard? Cause we have other dogs.
Thank you so much.

ygsgirl is right, there is now way for us to know exactly what happened, but your vet would might be able to tell.

My two cents is that is sounds an awful lot like he got into rat poison. At my time working in a veterinary hospital I've seen three dogs with rat poisoning, and two of them died. Basically the way rat poison works is that it blocks the production of vitamin K, which is essential to cells to absorb water. In not too long a time the body runs out of water, organs shut down, then the heart or brain fail causing the other to as well.

Check around your yard, shed, garage, neighbors, etc to see if there is any rat poisoning your dog could have gotten into.
But again, this is just speculation, only your vet cab say for sure.

Sorry for your loss,
L

Hey Hey,

I have recently got a 6 week old Jack Russel Puppy which I have named "Ruffie." We've had him for 3 days and in that time he has done 2 or 3 poo's. He hasn't done one today but has been trying to, he gets in position to do one and just can't. He's weeing as normal. He has been eating tin puppy food and dry dog biscuits. I gave hi a big drink of cow milk as i was told that should make his poo runny. Does anyone know what I can do to help him? Also if there is any treatments i can use on a six week old puppy for fleas.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

In terms of the fleas, you should see your vet to get one of the few flea&tick medications, as well as annual vaccines and shots. If you want, you can go to a local pet store, petsmart, or maybe even a grocery store to get a topical shampoo that will kill the fleas, but most likely they will come back unless your puppy has proper protection (from the vets). BUT, make ABSOLUTLEY sure if you do get a flea shampoo, to CHECK THE LABEL to see if it is recommended for a 6 week old dog, if it is not then DO NOT us it, as it could be very harmful.

For the constipation, it doesn't sound like a big deal. If he is like this for more than 24-36 hours then call your vet to make an appointment.

Actually, call your vet now to make an appointment to get annual vaccinations and flea preventatives, and while you're there they can check out the constipation thing.

Good luck.
