I have a degree in Biomedical Engineering and Psychology from Northwestern University. I finished medical school and completed my M.D. at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. I am currently in my residency for surgery- hopefully to be specializing in neurosurgery.

I want to answer questions on medical type questions. I'm a big fan of Dr. Drew Pinsky on Love Line and would like to help younger people from the mistakes I see a lot of young people do when they come into my ER.

yeah so i have one of them underground pimples, and it hurts like a bitchhh. i really want it gone by like friday, so i was wondering what would work. would putting a hot face cloth on it then putting an ice cube on it bring it to a head? its like spreading if i try to pop it (i knowww i'm not supposed to) and it's really annoying me. any other suggestions? (that work quickly & i don't have to go out and buy something) (link)
I'm not sure if what you're describing is an abscess (below the skin- red- feels like a fluid underneath- hard to soft- swollen- tender) or something else. i think that you are talking about an abscess.

An abscess means that some bacteria got under your skin- grew and made this small pocket of pus. Big ones are usually cut open to let drain- and then a person is given antibiotics.

When they are small- warm compresses can be used- and if you can see a doctor- a short course of antibiotics- when it gets more like a soft pocket- often with a white spot on top- you can take a sterile needle (if it is not too big) (sterile neede- use a sewing needle or a safety pin- rubbing alcohol to clean it- or under a match flame)- and then pierce through the skin and then drain the collection. Problem is that it may re-accumulate without antibiotics.

If it is larger though- don't touch it. Go to the doctor and he will either make an incision and drain and pack it with gauze to help it heal.

if i try weed/ a cig
will i get addicted the first time
of do you get addicted if you do it more than once? (link)
One of my areas of research in college was with addiction- and I do have a background in neurophysiology so addiction is actually a brain process and doesn't relate completely to the drug itself.

I have to disagree with people who say that marijuana is not addictive. It is addictive, because addiction is a psychological response, not just a physiologic response- hence why you can have an addiction to gambling, high risk behavior, sex, working, anything.

The compound in marijuana that gives a person the "high" feeling known at THC, stimulates cannaboid receptors in the brain- so there are studies out there showing that a person can have a physiologic addiction to it- although not as well studied as alcohol.

Sorry, that I had to go into that tangent, but I sometimes get frustrated with people who don't differentiate betwen addiction and dependency (ie the physiologic need for a drug).

You may or may not get addicted the first time you try cigarettes or marijuana. It all depends on how an individual responds to the drug and their behaviors around it. I have smoked ciggarettes, cigars, and marijuana, but not habitually, because my brain/body does not get addicted to drugs or the feelings that the drugs give. Generally, your body will not desire that drug after one time, but if you do start regularly, you may develop a tolerance to it, and when you try to quit- your body will react to get that drug back to feel "normal"

Sorry this is a lot longer but think of it this way.

Your body/brain is sitting on level "0"-- you smoke whatever, and your body/ brain goes to +5- when your body develops a tolerance to it- you would have to smoke more to get it to that +5 level. When you stop though- your level plummits to say -5. You will then feel that you need the drug to just get back to level "0", and more to go beyond that. This is basically the reason why it is so hard "physiologically" to get off drugs.

I'm not adverse to experimentation, but I would think hard about developing the habit.

I'm 22 years old. Pretty much all throughout my teen years I had a flat chest. Around 19 or so, they started to grow a little bit. If each bra cup could be a different size, one cup would probably be a training bra size and the other cup maybe an A. Is it normal for them to be so small and so differently sized? I was also born 3 months early, December instead of March. Could my prematurity have anything to do with it?

Thanks. (link)
Prematurity would not have an effect just on your breast size. As you know- everyone has different sizes and that is due to in part your genetics and the amount of hormones and how the breast tissue accepts those hormones.

If you have a normal period, normal sexual development- hair etc. then there is nothing wrong. You must look at the gestalt of everything going on. If you have an irregular period or no female pattern of hair, or some other signs- then i would see a doctor for that.

If you feel very self- conscious then you can see a plastic surgeon.

Okay every time i go onto a site about female anatomy.
The pictures never look any different or like mine.

My "hood" clit is not hidden. My clit is rather huge. And my "lips" are not small either, they hang out.

I just feel weird.
I dont see any other diagrams

http://www.scarleteen.com/body/female_anatomy_2.html

I know every person is different but why is the diagram the same?
I know that my friend has felt self conscious about it. (link)
There are only two major anatomy books that are used in the medical field- at least general anatomy that we get in medical school- Gray's Anatomy (hence the play on words for the tv series) and Netter's.

The representation in the diagrams are for the medical community to study "basic" anatomy, but just like your DNA- everyone is different.

Depending on your age what you are describing is normal. Different aspects of your body are affected differently with hormones, and sometimes esp the genitalia which are very hormone dependent, can grow before the rest of you.

Unless you really feel that something is wrong- pain- a different growth on your labia etc. then I would see an OBGYN.

Otherwise, you're fine.

Not Hot Topic though, I haven't found any ones that I like, and they cost WAY to much. But anyways, my other combat boots are now to small for me, and I want to buy some new ones but ones that aren't to expensive. Anyone know any websites? Or stores? Send me the link if you know websites..please!

~Danielle (link)
The best thing to do is to either do a google search or even in your lcoal town to find army surplus stores. Every city area has one, and these are generally the best material- our boys and girls in the military get the same kind so you know they're high quality.

They are usually more affordable and last a lot longer, however, may not have all the "fashion types" that you get at Hot Topics.

I am 17 and my boyfriend is 20. He has had sexual reltionships before but when me and him have sexual intercourse his errection doesnt last long. He says that he doesnt know why it happens and that it hasnt happend before. Even when i use my hand to pleasure him, he holds an errection until he ejaculates. He insists that its not my fault but i cant help but think that it is. im worried that we wont be able to have sex properly.what can i do?
Yours...Confused.x. (link)
Interestingly enough, the loss of an erection in males after ejaculation is completely normal. The nerves- which initiate an erection- during an "orgasm" there is a release of electrical activity through the nerves in the penis (and the brain- remember that's where you really have an orgasm- men and women)- and then the nerves "shut off" this is called a "refractory period" in neuro physiology. It is normal and happens to all males- they lose thier erections until this period is over and the nerves are "reset" for the next time. In general, when men get older- they are able to sustain an erection longer, however, there is an increase in the refractory period- while in younger men the erection is longer (quicker orgasm) but the refractory time is generally shorter.

Males in general in sexual intercourse are able to achieve orgasm quicker than most female, and there is nothing wrong with that. Anatomically and physiologically- womens' main sexual "pleasure" area in the genital area- the clitoris- is not related to childbirth (ie regular sexual intercourse)- however it is different in males where the penis is involved in both. (If you take a sexual psychology or neurophysiology class or anatomic evolution class in college, you may get into a discussion about this).

hey, im 15/f and i found out today that a little girl i use to know, is going to have a baby, she's 12!!.. her boyfriend is like 16. anyways, she still smokes and drinks and such, see i use to know her and she wasnt into that stuff when i knew her, im not at all in the smoking drinking kinda thing. so what all can be wrong with her baby when she has it?.. she smokes/drinks and shes 12. what all can happen to the baby?. thanks (link)
I have done several surgical rotations in the pediatric services- and the worse for me was having to operate on the newborns and all the defects that they have b/c of poor pre-natal care.

Regardless of age, there are several things that smoking and alcohol abuse can do during a pregnancy. The person previous mentioned Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, which is a very severe syndrome marked by mental retardation and other neurological defects.

Smoking and alcohol can lead to several birth defects from lungs (worse being lungs don't grow properly), fetal liver disease, heart defects, actually too many too list.

As for the mother- she is more likely to have gestational diabetes, and may get to the point where if she miscarries- may hemmorhage and may need emergency surgery- where we would have to remove her uterus- and therefore will never be able to give birth again (I've actually seen and done the operation several times). It is sad for a 12-13yo to know they can never have kids.

If you are able to get her to listen- she has to be seen by an OBGYN asap. if she doesn't have one and is scared about what to do- she can go to planned parenthood or call any pediatric/ children's hospital for referral.

best of luck,
AK

My boyfriend and I have been together for 10 months. We just started having sex in January and he had problems keeping his erection. He has no trouble when I use my hands or give him oral, but during sex he can't keep his erection for the whole time. I'm the first girl he's been with (hes 23) and I don't know what might be the problem. Like we will have sex and during he loses his erection and we have to stop and get him hard again. Anyone know why he has this problem and what we can do to solve it? (link)
When we evaluate someone for erectile dysfunction (this is a very broad topic) there are several categories someone can be put in from someone who can not achieve an erection, ejaculates/orgasms too quickly or loses their erections during or after penetration.

Because there are so many types there are different remedies.

Most ED drugs (Viagra etc.) are made for those that cannot achieve an erection, but sometimes that are used for times when they cannot sustain an erection after penetration. However, there may be a psychological issue which will work itself out (usually) after some time. However, a doctor can fully evaluate it if it really becomes a problem. Unfortunately, I can't be more specific because I do not know details.

The penis ring is an option, however, this may be very uncomfortable for him.

You will be able to work this out together if you're willing.

okay i have a few questions
first off wat is obvolation?
second ive had my period for a little over 2 years and when im on my period the first day its just normal then the next 4-5 are heavy then its just normal and slowly dies out about the 7th or 8th day but will still have a few drops on 9th so my period will last for 7 to 9 days. today had i asked a lot of girls at school and they all said there periods last 3 or 4 or 5 days and im just like holy freak mine is 7 8 or 9 days so is there like something wrong with me?

im 13 and in 8th grade (link)
The term ovulation is when the ovum is released from the ovary. This is often accompanied by hormonal shifts in your body- ovulation is often preceded by a burst of progesterone. Once the egg is released- you will have approximately 2 days when the egg may get fertilized in the fallopian tubes (tube from the ovary to the uterus)- during this time and several days before you ovulate- the uterus is getting ready for that egg in the case if it is fertalized- by thickening in the cavity- increased blood flow etc.

If you are fertalized- the egg will deposit- release more hormones and you will not have your period (the hormones prevent you from having it).

If you are not fertalized- the hormones (the ones that caused ovulation in the first place) will then let all that blood and extra "thickening" of your uterus to shed- your period.

When a person is young- the cycle of these hormones have not been established yet. Your brain still is trying to get the sequence of hormones (hormones from your brain stimulate other organs to release hormones to make your cycle complete) "just right" and this can take time. Sometimes if it is still not right, a doctor will put you on a birth control pill to regulate your cycle.

You're normal and I wouldn't worry about it. If it becomes more bothersome after some time- give it a year or so more- then I would suggest seeing your primary doctor or get referred to a OB/GYN.

i heard if guys take birth control it makes them temporaraly sterile and that it is more effective than women taking birth control. is this true? (link)
There are several studies being made in Phase II (There are actually 4 phases that a drug has to go through- usually after they finish phase III- the FDA will approve the drug), which means that it is not available to the public. There is no effective birth control for men. Most oral contraceptives for women regulate the amount progesterone or esterogen or both in a female- men, though having both of these hormones have more testosterone. The danger of going on these drugs is very similar to what happens when someone takes anabolic steroids (sex hormones- estrogen, progesterone, testosterone etc are called sex hormones and are steroids)- which include decrease in size of testes, increased body hair, thinning top hair, aggression)- when they go off the drugs- they may go through a withdrawal which is medically very dangerous.

the most effective birth control (other than abstinence) is birth control + condom.

AK

around what age do guys stop getting those random erections? (link)
They are not supposed to stop at all. With age- "random" erections do decrease with time, but when a male is asleep and goes through an REM cycle (dream cycle) he will often have an erection.

For guys who are worried about erectile dysfunction- and physicians who want to be able to find out if it is more "psychological" or more " physiological" would use the old trick of asking a male to wrap stamps (when they used to come in rolls) around their genitalia at night, and go to sleep- if the stamps were broken in the morning, that means that they were still able to have erections- and physiological reasons could have been excluded.

I just had surgery and one of my cuts isn't fully closed on the outside. the inside is, of course. I have a green pus/gunk on the incission. It's near my bellybotton because i had liproscopic (sp) surgery. anyways, when i put an obsorbant on it, (fyi, toliet paper, cottonball, stuff like that) it obsorbs green stuff. i'm not sure if my other 2 incission are infected, and connot use them to detirmine if my one is, because they still have the tape my doc put on them on them. yes, she just taped me up, my mom assumes she just sewed the inner part. Do you think it's infected? (link)
If your incision is open- red and draining a green pus- it means that your have an incisional infection- depending on how much is coming out- the incision may have to be opened a little bit and drained, and you may need to be placed on an antibiotic. If it is just a little bit, then they may just put in a small stitch and give you an antibiotic to take. You should make an appointment with the surgeon as soon as you can and tell them that your incision is draining green- and they'll get you in right away.

Sorry for the wound infection.

first off,I heard that you should wash your hair every other day to make it healthy...what does the term"every other day" mean???

2nd,what can I do to stop my hair from thinning and regain more hair growth?

3rd,i heard conditioner is bad for your hair,is that true?

4th, can wearing a cap spoil your hair??

5th,can piercings spoil your hair.and do the CBR,or piercing rings such as lip rings contain copper?

thanks a lot (link)
1. Washing your hair every other day means exactly what it means- wash it one day- and then don't wash it the next day and then wash it the next day. The thinking behind this is that the hair, and more specifically the hair follicle has specialized glands that surrounds the hair that protects the hair- why your hair gets greasy if you don't wash if for a couple of days. Ironically, this "oil" is actually is good for your hair. A lot of the chemicals that they use in shampoos strips this natural protection from hair and provide it access to the environment that the natural oil protected it against.

2. First of all, I would stop using any hair products that have unnatural products that dry out your hair. I would try to use products that wash out clean completely. I would also try to avoid the products that have too much scent, yes they smell nice, but the chemicals that stay can damage your hair more- remember that thinning hair is more prevelant in western socities and not in eastern socieities which use natural fruits and berries to clean and "scent" their hair. It's true.

3. Depends on the conditioner and the chemicals that they use. A lot of times a conditioner is not necessary if your shampoo cleans your hair well enough.

4. Wearing a cap itself can't spoil your hair, but what it does is what you wouldn't expect. Caps capture dirt and grime and sweat, and then those are great places for bacteria and other things to grow in- and then you place the hat back on your head, effectively placing the bacteria in your head again. Lesson- wash your hats.

5. I don't know how. You can get rings without copper- if you're thinking of eyebrow rings- it can cause inflammation and infection which can cause hair loss.

Ironically, a lot of "early" hair loss is due to not genetics but due to bacteria in the scalp- hence a new product just approved by the FDA- a laser comb that is supposed to destroy these microbes that may prevent some hair loss.

Take care,
AK

i just read someone who said that they shouldnt go tanning because they have a mole or something like that. i did not know this and im like freaking out because i want to go to a tanning bed but i have like a mole above my lip to the left, like how celebrities draw theirs in (christina agulara)

anyways whats going to happen to me if i do??
im scared ive always wanted to go!? (link)
You don't have to worry about your mole. Tanning- is exposing your skin to UV light which is dangerous, which does increase your chance of getting skin cancer, but so does walking outside. Once in a while, if you go to the tanning bed, it is fine, and may be actually be beneficial.

Most people are concerned about melanomas- here's a quick rule to look out for (something we used in med school to remember what to look for the ABCDE of melanomas)
A- Assymmetry (melanomas are assymetric not perfectly symmetric)
B- Border (melanomas have irregular borders)
C- Color (melanomas are more than one color variance)
D- Diameter (more than 6mm is suspicious- pencil)
E- Elevated from the skin is suspicious

However, don't go tanning too much, young kids can get skin cancers.

Oh the benefits of tanning: I sometimes go:
1. Seasonal Affective Disorder: people who do not see sunlight (esp in winter) get depressed- UV light helps (I'm a surgeon- I go into the hospital at 5am and leave after 7pm- i never see daylight)
2. You need UV light and sunlight for Vitamin D metabolism.
3. Some people with inflammatory skin disorders can benefit with UV light exposure.

Have fun.
AK

15/f 2nd year of highschool.

I've been thinking about college a lot lately. The bad thing: I totally don't understand it.

1. I don't understand the concept of "undergrad" or "grad school." How many years of schooling do you have to do?

2. Let's say I want to become a dance teacher. About how many years or school would I need?Would I study the different types of dancing (Preferably Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Pointe, and Acrobats) for four years each?

3. Let's say I want to become a Lawyer. How many years of school would I need? Is that where the grad school/undergrad school concepts come in?

4. Let's say I want to become a psychologist. How many years of school? If I do all the school and pass all the tests .. would I be considered a doctor?

5. What kind of jobs can I do to have the title of "doctor"?

6. For becoming a History teacher, how many years of schooling?

7. For becoming a dance teacher, lawyer, psychologist, or a history teacher .. what would good schools be? Preferably anywhere in the U.S. and preferably on the east coast.

Thank you so much! (link)
1. An undergraduate degree is often called a Bachelor's degree- it is the degree attained after your high school degree. Most people get an undergraduate degree in 4 years. A graduate school is in different areas of studying- sort of- a more sub-specialty training- and depending on the type of graduate school can take anywhere from 1-5 extra years.

2. As for dance school- you would often take a semester (ie a couple of months) of a certain of dance, and then in later years you may specialize in a certain type of dance and performance, where you may also take classes on teaching. Generally you may take you 4 years. Some specialized performance schools will be only 2 years, but you may not get a degree per se.

3. Yes- To become a lawyer you would first have to complete an undergraduate degree (4 years), during your junior/senior year of undergraduate years you would take the LSAT (Law School Admissions Test) and during your senior year apply to law school. You would then get into law school, where you would spend 3 years in law school (grad school) where after you're done with that you would get your JD (Juris Doctorate) degree. You would then take the bar exam to be licensed to practice law and congrats you're a lawyer :)

4. You can be considered a psychologist if you complete a degree in psychology- including an undergraduate degree (bachelor's degree)- so technically I'm a psychologist b/c I have a bachelor's degree in psychology. However, to most people to become a "real" psychologist you'll need graduate school work- which means at least a Masters degree (2 years of grad school) or a PhD (4 years of grad school). If you want to become a psychiatrist though, which is different, you would have to go to medical school and then go through a residency program in psychiatry (4 years undergraduate college + 4 years medical school + 3-4 years residency + 1-2 years fellowship (optional))

Doctors are considered those with PhD and M.D.s

5. Any job that has an advanced degree of M.D., PhD, D.O., DDM (dentistry)

6. Usually for a history teachers- you need a degree in history and than a few years of teaching to get a degree in teaching which in some colleges you can get at the same time- 4 years or maybe 6 years at most.

7.
Dance Teacher: Julliard, I can't really help with that.
Psychologist: Univ. of Michigan, Northwestern Univ., Johns Hopkins, Boston University, a lot of schools actually.
Lawyer: Grad Schools: Harvard, Yale, NYU, Columbia, Northwestern, Univ. of Chicago.
History: Harvard, Yale, Univ. of Chicago

Hope I helped.

AK

I want to go to college to become a psychiatrist. I just don't know where I want to go! I either want to go to school in Texas or maybe Illinois. What colleges would be good for what I want to do? (link)
I want to congratulate you on your choice of profession. Sabine is correct- the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist is that a psychiatrist is an M.D.- while most psychologists are PhDs.

I went to Northwestern University and majored in Psychology, which was a great program, and I really enjoyed the program there. I would think about what you want to do in the psychological field. While being a psychiatrist is being great- you get to prescribe drugs and such, you spend a lot of time with drug managment and may not get as much patient management as a psychologist would, but psychiatrists do get paid more.

Either way- Texas or Illinois- you just have to have passion for what you want and it matters more what graduate school you go into more than an undergraduate school.

Best luck,
Arun

What kind of things happen in drug rehabilitation?
Also, if you had the AIDS virus, would you be able to detect it in a standard bloodtest? (link)
AIDS is actually a clinical diagnosis that someone acquires when they are infected with the HIV virus. AIDS is when someone has a CD4 (T Cell count) of less than 200 and an AIDS opportunistic infection (I'm not sure about the viral load- how many virus particles they have). I know it may seem like really nitpicky, but people in the HIV community really think that it is important to be distinct in what HIV and AIDS is.

You can detect the HIV virus in a blood test, however, you need to get a written consent to have the test done. In the hospital, where we can mostly run any blood test we want, we have to get written permission from our patients to run the HIV test, and we can not share the results with anyone outside the hospital.

There are two tests: the first one is a screening test- the HIV ELISA test- which tests for the antibodies that the body makes against the HIV virus (not testing for the virus itself- which the body takes over 3 weeks to make- so a test less than 3 weeks would not be positive). If that test is positive- then we have to confirm that test with a more specific test called a HIV Western Blot test- which is more expensive. If both are positive- then a person can be sure that they have the HIV virus.

As for rehab- it depends on what kind of drug the person is on and what type of philosophy the center takes. Some are very new age- believing in spiritual guidance (AA for example) while some take a very medical approach to it (Methadone replacement for Heroin addicts). If you want specifics- let me know.

Hope this helps.

I have had nausea(sp?) for so long . I cant do anything. I cant go to school, walk a round, or concentrate on anything. Is there anything over the counter that will make me vomit, just so cannot have this feeling any more? I am also dizzy so the combo. is a horrible one.
I have seen many differnt types of doctors and even had a CT scan, on my head. Nothing has been found AT ALL, and no medcations have worked.
If any one can give any kind of answer it will be greatly apperciated.
Thank you! (link)
I am really concerned about your condition. I am also very surprised that more testing has not been done for you. As a doctor, I would want to ask you a lot more questions, but I can only give you my advice.

You do need to see a neurologist and a neurosurgeon as soon as you can. Do you have blurry vision? How long has this been going on? Do you feel any weakness? Any facial weakness? Any ringing in the ears?

From just the symptoms that you're describing of dizziness and nausea- and from your age you're describing classic hydrocephalus, which means that the ventricles in your brain (ie the spaces in your brain are expanded and causing increased pressure)- and you may need to have a VP (ventriculoperitoneal) shunt placed to relieve this pressure. There are some tests that are diagnostic- did you have a lumbar puncture?

I don't know what part of the country you're in but my mum is a neurologist and I know a lot of neurosurgeons that I can refer you to, but you really should get checked out right away.

Hope I can help in anyway. Do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours,
AK

Ok so i've had these i guess you'd say sleeping problems i dont sleep as much as i should and well when i sleep my mom and sister say that once in a while i scream in my sleep like i had a bad dream but the thing is that when i wake up i dont remember that happening and i dont remember having any dreams or nightmares or anything so yeha i was jsut wondering if anyone knows what this is or anything and possibly how i could stop this form happening (link)
There are several reasons why you may not be able to get a good night of sleep. Do you sleep during the day and take naps? Do you feel tired during the day? Do you feel sluggish? Do you eat or exercise right before bedtime? Are you overweight? All of these things may help diagnose why you may not be getting the restful sleep that you want.

Some of the things that you can do to help encourage restful sleep:

1. Do not exercise or eat foods within 3 hours of sleep. Do not eat foods with caffeine, including chocolate. Milk, ironically, is also not good for you when you're going to sleep, because of lactose digestion which is inhibited at night and can cause problems when you wake up.

2. Only go to bed when you're ready to sleep. Do not study, watch tv, read, talk on the phone etc. on your bed. Your bed should only be used for sleeping and other activities where the bed is used.

3. Make sure the temperature in the room is slightly cool esp if you use blankets. You're less likely to move around when you sleep if you're too warm.

4. If you're overweight, sleep apnea is a condition that occurs when many people sleep on their back and the back of their tongue can restrict the flow of air into their lungs- this can be remedied by propping up the head of your bed up by blocks (many people just prop their heads up with pillows but that really isn't the right way- you really want the bed on a slight angle), or try to sleep on your side.

As for the the screaming and not remembering- you may have what is called night terrors- which unlike dreams and nightmares occur during stage IV of sleep not REM cycle of sleep. You often don't remember it, but can be very frightening to people who observe it and may cause you to be even more tired in the morning. If you think you have these, you may need to have a sleep study done.

We all dream and go through all 5 stages of sleep in approximately 90 minutes, so technically speaking- if you sleep for 7.5 hours- you would have had 5 dreams- but you only remember the last one because thats the one that you wake up during. Hence why our dreams never seem "complete".

Hope this helps.

What kind of foods can I eat,
to keep my skin clear?

I normally have pretty clear skin,
and dont get acne or pimpes,
maybe the occasional zit, but hardly ever.

But what foods are good for your skin,
and can make your face glow =)

PLEASE AND THANK YOU!! (link)
There is no specific food that can make your skin glow. However, keeping a healthy diet and keeping your face clean and not using a lot of artificial items on your face (esp those that dehydrate your face) is best.

Most times, a lot of people forget that people are often underhydrated (why do you think the first thing that happens when you go to the hospital is get an IV with fluids running in- everyone is dehydrated), and therefore need to stay very hydrated, because we lose a lot of moisture in skin. Keep a good clean moisturizer and drink plenty of water during the summer months.
