there is nothing wrong with you.
some people are just plegued with longer periods, and no one has a steady period. so it could change. SO takd a deap breath!! your fine.
oh obvolation-- when your eggs move down your ovaries and when the eggs are fertalized you become pregnant and or if they arent fertalized you have all the uterous walls deteriate which were for in preperation if you were to fertalize an egg. but if you dont thats what your period is. the walls of your uterous deteriating.

This is often accompanied by hormonal shifts in your body- ovulation is often preceded by a burst of progesterone. Once the egg is released- you will have approximately 2 days when the egg may get fertilized in the fallopian tubes (tube from the ovary to the uterus)- during this time and several days before you ovulate- the uterus is getting ready for that egg in the case if it is fertalized- by thickening in the cavity- increased blood flow etc.
If you are fertalized- the egg will deposit- release more hormones and you will not have your period (the hormones prevent you from having it).
If you are not fertalized- the hormones (the ones that caused ovulation in the first place) will then let all that blood and extra "thickening" of your uterus to shed- your period.
When a person is young- the cycle of these hormones have not been established yet. Your brain still is trying to get the sequence of hormones (hormones from your brain stimulate other organs to release hormones to make your cycle complete) "just right" and this can take time. Sometimes if it is still not right, a doctor will put you on a birth control pill to regulate your cycle.
You're normal and I wouldn't worry about it. If it becomes more bothersome after some time- give it a year or so more- then I would suggest seeing your primary doctor or get referred to a OB/GYN.
christina answered Friday June 1 2007, 10:51 pm: Ovulation means that the chances of you getting pregnant that month are high. There's nothing wrong with you. Some people have long periods, some people have short periods & some people have the inbetweens. My friends lasts 3 days [she's on birth control though] and mine lasts about 5-7. Just because yours is a little bit longer doesn't mean you're weird or that there's anything wrong with you. So don't worry, you're fine. [ christina's advice column | Ask christina A Question ]
lbwhite89 answered Friday June 1 2007, 8:00 pm: Ok, firstly, I think you mean "ovulation". It's the time during the month (usually lasts a few days) in which you are most likely to get pregnant. It is when one of your ovaries releases an egg during or right after your period.
Your periods are a little longer than average, but it's probably normal. I know someone who has their period for barely 3 days! It's crazy! Mine usually lasts around 5 or 6. The average is 6-7 days. If you're really concerned about it, you can talk to your mom or ask a doctor. :) [ lbwhite89's advice column | Ask lbwhite89 A Question ]
