Hey, I'm Mara. I love dancing. It's practically my favourite thing to do. I love House, R&B, pretty much everything with a good beat, and Benny Benassi is my hero; that's why my column is a shrine to him. I graduated this year and am now in my first year of college where I'm trying to pick a major. Chances are you'll see some of my Psychology questions floating around somewhere here. I'm also extremely interested in Political Science too because I, like half the people living in Canada, somehow want to change the world. I particularly want to find a cure for poverty, corruption, cancer, AIDS and George Bush because honestly, I think those are the biggest problems we have right now. I have decided that maybe I should take the time to live a little before I start though because I have a good fifty years ahead of me to fix all the issues there are. Currently my life consists of: studying, working, socializing, eating and ocassionaly sleeping. I spent practically all of my high school life being a delinquent and partying to huge extents until I discovered my brain sometime in the middle of my senior year. I still like to have a good time every once in a while but you always need to find that balance (I haven't exactly found it yet but I'm getting close). Unfortunatley, a habit that has stuck with me from school is my obsessive gossiping. I just can't stop and you know, an article in Cosmo says that gossipers are healthier people because they bond over it? Who would have thought? Anyway, I do have my limitations and I don't condone nasty, brutal gossiping and I don't gossip about anything my friends have told me in confidence or something about someone else that they have slipped to me, however, if I find you in a washroom at a random party making out with my bestfriends's boyfriend, a few people are probably going to hear about it. Actually, more than a few people will hear about it because one of my absolute pet peeves is parties where the all the bathrooms are occupied due to sexual activity or... puking activity. Sooooo what else is there to know about me? My favourite thing in the world is shopping and my worst fear is existantialism. I am OCDey in a clinical way so you can ask me questions about that. You can ask me practically anything you want except for dumb questions but I'm not going to answer them in my little column here because it's a huge waste of space when I could be writing about myself (Click 'LookIt' on my menubar for answers to dumb questions so you don't have to embarass yourself asking them and getting bitched out from me). What I can do, is offer you three pieces of truly inspirational advice. Firstly, never live your life by what others want of you, cherish yourself and everyone around you, and never beat yourself down about anything you couldn't have avoided. Secondly, donate at least ten percent of the income you earn in your life to someone who needs it. Lastly, never get into a bulldozer when you're under the influence and start driving it towards a poor freshmen (I am never going to another kegger ever again... ever). Ok, I'll shut up now. You can start asking me stuff, if you haven't hit the back button already.

I'm a columnist on here and have been for about a year or so. I've noticed hundreds of questions dealing with depression. While I understand that it seems to be more common in teenagers now, why is it that it is mostly girls? Is it the way they are raised? Is it imprinted in DNA? I'm interested in the psychological aspect of it and hope to major in it someday, but I've looked it up everywhere online and can't find a reliable source. Anyone know the causes of this or where to find it? Thanks.

this is for my sister. she married a pakistani and he has really ruined things here in the US. he has broken so many laws, and he took another wife which is illegal. he thinks it is fine. and he is ruining her life, he is abusive ( but the police won't do anything) and he is a big hacker, and just the worst of people. i don't like to see him taking advantage of america, and he IS breaking so many laws. what can i do??? please please help. ps. he is illegally working. thank you for your help.
Get your sister away from him as soon as possible. Then report him to the government instead of the police. Raise awareness of her issue by writing to magazines and mailing women's groups.

My boyfriend got arrested but hes on probation and he has to be around a counselor. He told me he has a counselor because he broke a window. I thought you only have counselors around you if you had sex with a minor or rape?? Is he hiding something?
You can get counseling for anything.
My guess is that he is getting it for anger management or something similar.

Chances are that you're pregnant. Go get a pregnancy test from a drug store and talk to your boyfriend about your options if you haven't already.

lately or recently i have lost like 3 tank tops and expensive pair of jeans. i thought that my friend mandi took them because like i was at her cabin with her and i brought them up there and when i come home there not in my bag? well i was soo PISSED OFF. she said her aunt found some in the bathroom and was gonna bring them to her house but she said she came and her mom wouldnt let her in because she didnt know who she was (mandi's parents are divorced) and i knew that was a bunch of BS. and i felt bad because my family isnt the richest and clothes are that CHEAP these days so i couldnt go buy myself a new wardrobe and replace the clothes i lost. well mine and mandi's friend lisa were all together one night and lisa is like mandi those are my pants you are wearing! and mandi is like lisa no there not my dad bought them for me and shes like not uh i remember i had them in our locker when we were sharing them and you brought them home and lisa is like if they are size 7 they are mine so she checks and they are 7's! and mandi still denies it but hollister doesnt make those pants anymore they're an old brand and she said her dad just bought them for her when she told me that her friend jackie gave them to her and amanda wears like a 3/4 not a 7! and then i was like woww she probably has my clothes too! and i was like lisa did you see her wearing a brown aero tank top with a little tan butterfly in the corner? and shes like yep shes worn that around me before! I KNOW SHE HAS MY CLOTHES. i asked her about it though and shes like nooo i dont have them sorry. and i cant go to her house because its an appt. and she never lets anyone in her house trust me ive tried! and i dont want to go snooping around her room. im soo f'in mad though! one of them were a new tank top i just bought too. me and lisa cant trust her around our stuff anymore! and this year she wants to share a locker and i was like ookay. but that was before i knew all this stuff! last year we shared one and she like took all my pencils without asking then i didnt have any! i just dont know what to do anymore..now i dont really want to share a locker but im really bad at like saying no and im scared she will share one with lisa then and i wont see mandi anymore! and shes like the only one i see at school..or hangout with in the morning.

Both you and Lisa need to confront her together and tell her that she needs to give you your clothes back and you’ll forgive her but if she doesn’t, you’re going to resort to drastic measures.
If she gives you the clothes, accept them and be more careful around her and your stuff next time. If she doesn’t, call up her mom and her dad and complain to them. Tell them that if they don’t deal with her, you’ll have to take it to the authorities.
If that doesn’t work, gather up receipts and photos of you in your clothes as well as testimonies from other friends that know they have seen you in the clothes. Get as much evidence as you can. File in small claims.
It sounds harsh because it’s your friend but you need to stop her from stealing now before she starts stealing bigger and more expensive things. You need to watch out for her and yourself too.

What exactly is a tease ? Like if someone calls you a tease. What does it exactly mean ? (I know kind of stupid question). But thanks for people who answer this nicely
A tease is a negative term for a person who leads people on. The recipent is usually a girl.
For example, a girl might flirt with a guy and not go anywhere with it or flirt just to boost her own ego when she isn't interested in him at all.
A more vulgar form of the word is cock tease which is for girls who advance on guys sexually and refuse to hook up with them.

You know what? I honestly can't relate to you on that because I live in a multi-cultural place and everyone dates everybody.
But I guess you can look at it as peer pressure. The hardcore black urban scene dictates that a black man will always have more street cred than a white man.
These days we have a lot of reverse-racism going on in the world. Because the whites have enslaved black people, the black people refuse to let anyone else cross the line.
So a black man can get with a black girl or a white girl and what is a white man going to say about that? "You're a dirty n---. Get away from white girls." I doubt it. Unless he has a death wish, he'll run away fasted than you can say "race card".
And when a white man starts going out with a black woman, the black males will accuse the white man of stealing what belongs to "his kind".
A black woman looking on a black man/white woman relationship can't do much except bitch about it. But sometimes that's enough to break a couple up too.
Sometimes things like these aren't exactly as I put them either. They might not be verbal at all. Instead, a white guy might unconsciously back off black women forever, knowing that he might get in trouble.
It's a honestly all bullshit. People spend too much time representing their colour or their kind or their "people" instead of understanding that the type of person you are isn't what you look like, it's how you act and how you think.

Does anybody have any experience/tips with modular design for yearbooks? I am the editor of the yearbook this year and I am looking for new ideas and tips on anything that has to do with yearbooks and magazines. If it helps, our theme is "Not your average..." and we're carrying it out through the book by saying "Not your average athlete" and "Not your average first day", etc. Thank you!
Congrats on getting the position. I spent the last year, my graduating year, as chief editor and I tried really hard to make it special for my class. But the first thing you need to remember is that you can't make everyone happy, I spent so much time running around after everyone trying to please them all but realized that complete satisfaction would never be possible so I settled for what the majority wanted.
I like your theme except it's sometimes hard to incorporate something so specific into a yearbook. This year our theme was time. We used clocks as layouts and we used digital page markers. We alternated every spread to fade out in gray to the back of the book. The year before that, the theme was barcode. We had barcodes hidden and imbedded into the book, sometimes waving and morphing into a zebra print. Three years ago, the theme was definition, with the dictionary definitions of friendship all around the book and we scanned and used pages of the dictionary for our backgrounds. I suggest using the "Not your average..." as a general tagline and come up with a stronger theme.
You also need to make sure the yearbook is continuous. The sidebar or header needs to be the same throughout the entire book and so do the numbers. Make sure that a few of the layouts repeat themselves too. It seems like a simple process but keep double-checking. I’ve had a lot of kids just make up their own pages so the entire section ended up looking like AB CD EF CD AB GF EF and it looked oddly out of place.
Make sure you keep editing the pages and checking them over. I had the basic rule that a spread needed to complete four steps before being sent:
1. Finished and checked by creator
2. Checked by three peers
3. Checked by two editors
4. Checked by me or my sub
It’s a lengthy process but it makes the book foolproof and mistakes rarely slip through.
Keep in touch with the publishing company and make sure you’re clear on deadlines and –meet- the deadlines. Last year they published the original copies we sent them without replacing the fixed pages we sent later so we ended up doing 2 months of extra work to fix pages and they didn’t get published.
Lastly, remember to be patient. Don’t alienate yourself from anyone else working on the yearbook or go on a power trip. The rest of the class voted the chief editor out three years ago.
Keep a copy of the yearbook with you incase you have a job interview relating to it. When the interviewer asks you to tell him a little about yourself, plant the book in front of him and say, “I was in charge of creating this book and supervising however-many people et cetera”
Aside from that, good luck. It’s a tough job, but the right person can make it amazing.

Someone told me to apply eyeliner below the bottom lashes to make your eyes stand out. Wouldn't it look weird if it wasn't right near your eye?
It will look ok below the lower lashes if you blend it in to make a smoky-eyed look but having a bold line doesn't make any sense.
I suppose they might have been trying to tell you line your lower rims?

This is quite long, sorry.
Ever since I was young, I've had what I suppose are 'bad' dreams. I've never really considered them bad, beacuse I've had them all my life. They generally involve running to things and running from things that want to hurt me. Some of the more vivid dreams have included me being beaten up, shot and almost raped [none of which, despite the pain, I've woken from like you see in the movies]. Most of these I don't really recall and I do know that the vividness and frequency is directly related to stress. However I found out today that I still have these sorts of dreams at least once a week, even though as far as I'm concerned I haven't been. And apparently they must be the vivid sort, since apparently I talk and cry in my sleep.
I've been informed by my partner and a good freind of ours that this really isn't normal and that I need to see a shrink. Isn't it and do I?
But that's not all. Again, since I was very young [since I was a baby too, apparently] I've always had trouble getting to sleep. It takes me a good 3 hours to get to sleep, some times longer if I'm stressed. I've tried all the tricks in the book, but the only reliable thing that will be knock me out almost straight away is a glass of wine followed by a painkiller [yeah I know - you can lecture me about how non-existant my liver is later]. Even when I was at school and was reliably going to bed at 10 and waking at 8, this was still the case. Again, I thought this was normal considering it's been happening my whole life, but again I'm infomed it's very not normal. Is this true?
Two more things, possibly related. My eyes don't shut completly when I close them. This sounds really freaky I know, and I know that it's true when I'm awake beacuse I can see out of the slits, but I'm told it happens when I'm asleep as well. I'm highly sure that this isn't normal... but it may relate to this: I'm never really awake. I often feel really groggy during the day despite getting a 'good' night's sleep. Dark thinks that not only might this be related to the dreams, but also to the fact my eyes don't shut, but I don't know. I wouldn't say that I feel groggy all the time, but a large percentage of it. The few times I've woken up feeling really energetic and awake where when I did the last NaNoWriMo and went to sleep on a tonne of caffene and when I had wine and then took a painkiller. So, is that normal too?

Have a high frequency of very vivid bad dreams? [What sort of frequency is normal for those sorts of dreams anyway?]
Not be able to sleep several hours after turning out the lights to sleep? [Is this what insomnia is? I thought it was only if you couldn't sleep ever]
Not wake feeling rested and refreshed, despite how you thought you had a good night sleep?
I don't want advice on how to get to sleep, I just want to know if I'm some sort of freak who should see a doctor and a shrink like my partner is trying to get me to. Hell, any discusion would probably be useful....
It's not the norm to consistently have nightmares all the time. The only way I can see this being ok is if you are one of the few who remember most of your dreams but even if that’s true, you should still be remembering a considerable number of “good” dreams.
And from your question, you seem to have a lot of insomniac tendencies. You’re tired most of the time and you can’t usually sleep without help.
Yeah, you definitely need to get some sort of consultation. I would recommend seeing your doctor before you see a psychologist, maybe the problem really does reside with your partially open lids.
And you’re not a freak.

I lose my temper a lot when i am babysitting. I am making good money, but this girl is so annoying. I dont get that mean, but I just want to tell her to SHUT UP. I try to be nice and act interested in what she is saying, but she drives me crazy!
Does that make me a bad babysitter?
Every babysitter gets frustrated once in a while but the key is to hold it back and do your job.
As long as your emotions don't get in the way of your duty, you're a great babysitter.

Okay so i like this guy but im not sure if he likes me. Hes one of my cousins good friends. He says alot of nice stuff to me like that i have really pretty eyes and that im pretty. On the last day of school it was me him and my cousin [we all walk home] and he acts so different when ben [ my cousin] is around. He`ll be mean to me and like mostly joking around though. He`ll belike you know what DYKE, go play in traffic. And hes like gosh go away. But as soon asmy cousin leave hes all nice and is like yeah your really cool and stuff like that. You have to understand that boys act differently around other boys.
He's probably trying to show off in front of your cousin. He doesn't want to be vunerable infront of your Ben and might think that he might loose some of your cousin's respect if he starts liking you. Especially, since he doesn't know whether you like him for sure or not, he probably doesn't want to risk offending Ben.
You should start flirting with him when Ben is around and see how he reacts. Maybe even tell him how you feel.
Be careful though, because he's definitley putting up a front but when the mask comes off, he's either a boy who likes you a lot, or he's a boy whose just, well... nice.

If you have large eyes, line the bottom using black (it's frame your eyes) or blue (to make the whites pop).
If you have smaller eyes, use a nude colour or white, it'll extend your eye downwards so they look bigger.

I don't have much experience with them myself but my sister is obsessed with them. She says that if you're sensitive, you should avoid them though because they have a really strong smell.
