about

My name is Elly and I am 18 years old. I live in Michigan and I graduated High School in '07. I'm currently attending a great college, but I'm home for the summer. It's too nice outside to sit on the computer all day, so I might not be as active on here as I would like.

I guess a good way to describe me is experienced. I've discovered a lot about life and I can't wait to discover more... while having fun at the same time of course! ...BUT, like everyone, I have experienced things in life that I rather wish I hadn't. And I also feel that those bad experiences qualify me to help others with this column.

I have been in a serious relationship for over two and a half years now. I personally know that love is a difficult thing to nurture. It takes a lot of work. Life is NOT a fairytale where two people can simply love each other and everything will just fall into place. It doesn't work like that in the real world.

People on Advicenators are starting to disappoint me. Everyone says "ooh I want to help! I've experienced EVERYTHING!" Yet, I can't tell you how many questions I see with answers like "you could have googled that" or "we're not going to do your homework" or "I'm so sick of 'wow does he like me?!' questions." I used to sort of be like that, but now I realize how hypocritical that is. If I know the answer to a question, I will answer to the best of my ability without making you feel stupid for asking it in the first place. Advicenators is going to turn into a pretty nasty place if people just keep brushing off questions like that.

Rate or don't rate. I really don't care. But don't give me a 1 just because I tell you something you don't want to hear. Go to your mom for advice if you want sugarcoated answers.

I can give excellent advice on:
relationships/sex
friendship
family issues
anything about animals (i worked at a vet for several years)
college

advice

Freshman year of high school I was going into a new school and didn't have a lot of friends, but I got a few within the first couple weeks.I just got more and more in and out of school, including people I hadn't talked to in a while.Summer was great, but by the end of it I sort of abruptly stopped talking to people as much.It really hit me at a party when I was sort of sitting around while everyone was mingling. It got worse and I ended up talking to hardly anyone, and I don't think I hung out with anyone for the entire year.So Summer's here, and even though it just started...things don't seem any different.I don't want my summer to be like last year, and I REALLY don't know what I'll do if my Junior year goes the same way as last year.

What can I do to get back with my old friends,or make some new ones?

Call up your old friends and see if they want to go to the beach with you. Make an effort to call all those people you stopped talking to and try to get closer with them again. Invite them over for a movie night or something. I'm sure they'd be excited to start seeing you again. When you do contact them, point out that you've been pretty busy, but you miss them and you'd like to start hanging out again.

You could also make new friends by joining a summer sport or getting a job. Both are great ways to make new friends.

The important thing is to try and be social and make plans with people. Don't wait for them to call you.

Why is everything so complicated when you are 14 I mean there's really nothing that makes sense anymore!

God I wish I was 14 again. Trust me, honey, you think stuff is confusing now? Wait until you're older and you have to worry about graduating and paying for college and applying for college and getting a job and making car payments etc. etc. etc.

Cherish your youth. I wish I did.

14/f

I have the grossest thighs ever. They buldge over my knees and they explode out when I sit down and they have SO much fat on the inner thigh...

I'm only 20 pounds overweight, how can this be? I used to be obese, but then I lost a lot of weight and i thought i'd lose the grossness of my thighs.

What can I do about them?

by the way if it helps i'm five two and a quarter and 154 lbs. (still dieting)

You need to exercise and get your body moving. Walk or jog for a half hour every day. Start swimming. Squats are good for your thighs too. The more you start exercising, the smaller your thighs will get. Since you're young, your skin should shrink back to normal size along with your thighs.

I suck at writing essays! Any tips or advice on what to write/what not to write?

Write a lengthy essay saying how amazing the university you're writing it for is. Boost their ego as much as possible. They love that. Make sure to include your own life goals and why that university will help you achieve those goals.

You could also write about a hardship you've experienced in life and how it has made you a better person. You could write about all your activities and good grades and explain why you would be a valuable asset to the school's student body.

You're writing that essay because you have to explain to the university administrators why they should accept you over thousands of other applicants. So no pressure! (sarcasm)

Use good spelling, grammar, and use a wide variety of vocabulary. Avoid words like "would," "should," "as," "is," "be," etc. Since the essay is about what you think, feel free to write in first person format (I, me), but NO second person (you).

GOOD LUCK!

ive been on accutane for almost seven years now and i still get bad acne is there any other things...creams,pills,at home rememides..any advice??

A good spot treatment I like to do is crush an aspirin and mix it with pure lemon juice until it makes a paste. Dab the paste on the individual pimples and leave it one for 20 minutes, then rinse off with warm water. Do that about two times a day and your skin will clear up significantly.

Have you tried the cream "Neobenz?" It's benzoil peroxide in cream form and it works wonders. You have to get a prescription to get it though. Talk to your dermotologist.

Nothing you eat or drink will affect your skin condition. I used to believe that, but my dermotologists, I've have three mind you, insist that isn't true.

this may sound stupid if you do not like animals and know the bond you can have with them...i am away from home for college and my cat died....this was 5 months ago and i am still no over it..i am so upset..and sad..but to make it worse my other kitty is missing her sister..and that makes me so sad ..how can i make her happier and how can i deal wiht this loss

It is completely normal to feel pain after losing a beloved pet. My dog died in February and I still burst into tears every time I see her picture or find some of her hair while I'm cleaning.

I don't know if you have a religion or not, but I myself believe in heaven and it always makes me feel better knowing that I will see my dog again someday after I die.

Just focus on the happy times you had with her and assure yourself that your cat is in a better place. I don't know how your cat died, but be greatful that she isn't suffering anymore.

Maybe your other cat just needs a new companion to keep her company. The new addition to the family will keep her busy and she'll be happier.

i just want o know how does sex feel and how does it feels when you first try it.And when you get finger does it hurt, and wat does it mean when they say a boy eat you up.And one more thing is it possible to give yourself an organsim and wat it feels like. thanks.

Sure sex feels good..... after a few weeks of getting used to it. I'm not going to lie to you here: it REALLY hurts the first several times you do it. You really have to tell your partner to go slow.

Fingering may or may not hurt. It depends on how rough they are doing it.

When a boy "eats you out" it basically means he is licking your vagina. Why guys love that I have no idea.

Self Masturbation can give you an orgasm. You can use your fingers to stimulate your clitoris, a vibrator, and pretty much any household item you can think of. All you have to do is make sure it's clean before you use it.

I have two chinchillas and they had two babies. we brought them all to vet to be sure that they were healthy. after the babies came we just had to get our male chinchilla fixed. he got through the surgery ok but then we noticed he wouldnt move his leg and his tail was bleeding.

The vet told us he was probably just sore and we should just wait and see. in the morning my mom found him laying in the cage... dead=(. we were all upset and we now found out that one baby is a girl... and one is a boy. Im so worried. my mom told me either we have to get him fixed, or he will have to be separated from the mom and baby girl.

Its scary but i was reading about fixing them and it said that most chins do make it out of being fixed just fine. Should we take the chance and get the baby boy fixed too?

Yes, go ahead and get the baby boy fixed, but take him to another vet office. That vet had absolutely no idea what they were doing and they were probably lazy for not looking into taking better care of your chinchilla.

After you get the boy fixed, keep as close an eye on him as possible. If he acts strange in anyway or bleeds even a tiny bit, bring him right back to the vet to get him checked out. That way, they can catch any problems early on and help him get better.

Since the chinchilla is a baby, I doubt you'll be able to get him fixed right away. Talk to your vet about a good time to take care of that.

Hope everything goes okay!

Me and my boyfriend have been dating for like a year and 3 months, and I really love him, but lately we have been arguing a lot! and it's not like once a week it is probably everyday. and it is over little tiny stuff. and i just dont know what to do anymore. do you have any suggestions? I know it is a kinda stupid question i would just like somebody else's opinion.

thanks. :)

Trust me. I know exactly how that goes. Perhaps you two just spend way too much time together. When you spend a lot of time with one person, it's easy to get bored with them and that might frustrate you, thus causing you two to argue over everything.

Instead of seeing your boyfriend everyday, take time to see your other friends and do other things so you aren't seeing each other too much. That should greatly help in reducing your arguments.

Next time you guys do get in an argument, stop and think: "Is this REALLY going to matter one year from now?" You'll usually find that answer is no. In that case just say to him, "Look, I don't want to argue with you over something this stupid. Let's do something else instead. It's not worth it." And just move on.

I have an attraction to older men. Like today, I went to my uncles party and met one of his friends... An older guy who turned out to be really cool and easy to talk to. We had a lot in common, music wise and I just found myself really attracted to him...
But this is common for me, I usualy tend to go after older men. Men who are much much older than me. I'm only 19 and this guy had a 16 year old son already, So i'm guessing he was maybe around 40...
I'm not talking like old wrinkled men either.. so dont think im crazy. lol

Anyway, is this normal & what could be the reason behind it?? cause 20 year old guys just don't do it for me.

Hey I can understand that. Guys at your age can be extremely immature. You are probably mature yourself and you just want a guy that has the same mental capacity as you. That's probably all it is.

It could also be the fact that the older men have more experience in life and you feel like they could show you a better time and treat you nicely. I don't just mean sexually, mind you.

I know a married couple that has a pretty big age difference and they couldn't be happier together.

Love knows no age, my dear. Just follow your heart. :)

hi im 13 and i have masturbated about 10 time with back of pens cucumbers and random things in the house which you shouldnt masturebate with im scared about my period i turn 14 in 3 weeks will this affect my period coming im scared about if i damaged something i have stopped masturebating now please help im really scared thank you

Um, just for the record, you don't have to put a condom on something you masterbate with. That's just ridiculous. Yes, it has to be clean, but it doesn't need to have a condom. Condoms are for penises and nothing else.

Masturbation is completely normal AND healthy. As long as you aren't making yourself bleed, the things you masturbate with shouldn't harm you. This won't affect your coming periods at all. If you're really that worried about it, use smoother objects when you masturbate and you won't have to worry about hurting yourself.

I feel terrible when I pray because I'm defninitely using God. Like I don't praise him at all, I only turn to him when I need help, and he always DOES help me. Which kinda makes me feel worse. How do I get into the habit of turning to him when I'm actually doing good and "dont need him" (of course I always do, but you get the picture!) ?

In my opinion, that's what he's there for. To help us and guide us when we need help and guidance. I feel the same way as you sometimes. Whenever I pray for something, I always take a minute to thank God for something he has already given me. It makes me feel a lot better. So next time you pray, thank him for something and you'll feel less guilty.

See, it's silly to turn to God when we don't need anything. Technically, we all need something, even if it's something as big as ending world hunger. You know what I mean? I think praying is a wonderful thing and more people should do it. Maybe you could also pray for other people and the things they might need.

To put it simply.. my so-called close friend pretty much screwed my guy and lied blatantly to my face about it.

So this girl is what most people would call a 'sexual predator' (my friends' term). She apparently has gone after every single guy i've liked or like since i've known her, which was just this year. At the beginning of the school year, after she found out i like a guy in her trombone section, she started flirting with him nonstop. That ended after a while and i had this whole unofficial relationship with one of my guy friends that i didnt tell her about. Senior Prom came after that and after she saw who i went with, she kept her on him. The week after prom, she started hanging all over him and flirting with him heavily and nonstop. Am i just being paranoid?

Well let's see, two weeks after that.. she FINALLY found out about how i was unofficially dating one of my guy friends. That same week, she started flirting with HIM nonstop and getting all over him. She then decided she liked him and proceeded to tell him so. But to me, she told me that she just told him that she thought she liked him but she really didnt and that they didn't do anything because he didn't care. I already knew she was lying then, but i didn't know to what extent. Then last night, one of my closest guy friends who was also close friends with the guy, told me that she had gotten farther than me with him. wait. what?

So apparently this girl had been acting all normal around me and acting like a 'great' friend (not that i really trusted her anymore) while she was secretly releasing her sexual frustrations on him and same with him on her. I mean, just last night she texted me to hang out. Like hell im going to hang out with her anymore. It makes me cringe just to think about all the lies and crap shes been doing behind my back. What kind of 'good' friend does that to you?

So my final question is.. what do i do? Some of my friends want me to chew her out, confront her with all the horrible things she's done to me (besides trying to take my guys.. also take my friends). Most of my friends already don't like her because truth be told she is a complete b*tch and she knows it but doesnt care. She's violent, shes mean, she's a liar and shes hella easy if you know what i mean. So with graduation approaching in about 5 days, should i just let things go and pretend it never happened once summer starts? Because i will probably end up seeing both her and the guy over the summer. Or should i b*tch her out before leaving because i probably wont see her ever again after i go to college on the other side of the USA? I'm not a very confrontational or loud person, but this girl has seriously made my life a complete mess.. some serious advice please?

This girl is not a sexual predator. She is a full on slut/bitch.

She is not even worth your time sweetie. If you don't want her bothering you over the summer, all you have to do is tell her not to call you because you're done with her crap. She doesn't need an explanation. I'm sure the little scum knows what she did.

Like you said, you won't ever have to see her again. DON'T bitch her out because that will just make her feel good about what she did.

As for the guy, he's not worth your time either. He knew damn well what he was doing when she came on to him. Any excuse he gives you is worthless. Ignore him.

You'll meet way cooler people in college. I say don't even think about these two. They'll wind up alone someday anyway. :)

This summer my boyfriend and I want to go to the beach together. The lake is really disgusting, so don't suggest to go swimming in it. The beach does have a boardwalk and lots of paths to go roller blading, so we plan on doing that. There's a little cafe there, but that's about it.

Any ideas for stuff we could do together? Just the two of us? I wanted to lay in the sun and read together, but I don't want to just do that the whole time.

If your trying to lose weight what vegies are the good to eat or the best

They are all really good for you.

But I do know that veggies like celery and carrots are esp. good because they have negative calories. That means you burn more calories chewing the vegetable than the actual calories they give you.

Mind you, raw veggies are way better for you than having them fried in butter and dipped in veggie dip or smothered with cheese. Sure they taste good, but they aren't as healthy.

well i have acne and its not TERRIBLE but i do have it and i have scars and VERY oily skin. would proactiv really clear my skin and keep it clear? honest answers are appreciated i'd just like alot of input. thank you!

Proactiv does work, it just takes a really long time to see results. Plus it's a bit expensive.

Something else you could do is try using a face wash that's just for oily skin. Neutrogena has two or three good face washes that can help treat oily skin.

There is also a spot treatment you could use for your individual pimples. All you have to do is crush an aspirin and mix it with lemon juice until it makes a thick paste. Put the paste on each pimple and leave it on for twenty minutes. Then rinse it off. Do that maybe two times a day and your skin will be clear, or mostly clear, the next day.

These alternativea are cheaper and you'll see results a lot faster than if you were to use Proactiv.

My boyfriend's sister's graduation party is this Sunday. He and I have been together for about a year and a half so I know his sister pretty well. Its not like we're best friends or anything but we'll say hi at school and joke around when we're together and stuff. So she wants me to come. Im trying to think if I should just get her a card or should I get her a present? Even people's friends get eachother cards so i dont know if there's a need to get her a present. Any suggestions as for a yes or no, or even ideas for a present are appreciated =]

Get her a cute card and a small gift. It's polite and she'll really appreciate that you took the time to get her something. You don't have to spend anymore than $20 on it either. Get her a cute pair of earrings or a shirt she might like. Just something simple like that.

Hey all.

Okay, here's the problem... for some reason when I go to certain web sites after the page has fully loaded up most of the content on the page will suddenly just vanish. I refresh the page and all the content will be there again until the page finishes loading up, after which most the content will vanish again. :/

For example on Ebay recently. I logged into my account and at first (while all the content and page was loading up) everything was showing up fine, like my items I had bid on and stuff I was watching. When the page had finished loading up though everything vanished apart from the bar at the top of the page (basicaly everything that had anything to do with my account on that page vanished). This has happen with a numer of sites even just normal sites where I don't need tolog in to view stuff. When the page loads up fully most of the content (usually the content I needed) vanishes.

I'm guessing it's some kind of setting for my IE that's been changed somehow because it was all working fine before so if anyone can shed some light on this, would be very greatful. :D

It is possible that your computer has some type of virus or it might just be the browser you're using. If you use Internet Explorer, switch to something more advanced like Firefox.

If switching your browser doesn't work, call your internet provider for some advice.

i live in florida and ive never been to new york city.
we're going on vacation in a couple days and me and my mom are going to broadway one night, just me and her, and i was wondering, what are you supposed to wear?
my mom told me to wear something dressy. but i dont want to be over dressed.
but then again, i dont want to wear a jean skirt and be under dressed.
so i really don't know what to do. i dont want to look like an idiot tourist.
please help. (:

People that go to broadway shows can be dressed in something as fancy as an evening gown to something as casual as dress pants and a blouse. Really it's up to you. When I went, I just wore a skirt, nice shoes, and a matching shirt.

Follow these rules and you'll be just fine:

1. Flip-Flops are NOT dressy. Take the time to wear dressy shoes.

2. Mini skirts are inappropriate, so don't wear one. If you are going to wear a skirt or dress, make sure it at least reaches your knees.

3. Don't wear anything jean. Period.

4. If it has any type of logo on it, even one of those little birds, it is NOT dress clothing.

Hopefully this helps. Have fun at your broadway show! They really are amazing!
