I have two chinchillas and they had two babies. we brought them all to vet to be sure that they were healthy. after the babies came we just had to get our male chinchilla fixed. he got through the surgery ok but then we noticed he wouldnt move his leg and his tail was bleeding.
The vet told us he was probably just sore and we should just wait and see. in the morning my mom found him laying in the cage... dead=(. we were all upset and we now found out that one baby is a girl... and one is a boy. Im so worried. my mom told me either we have to get him fixed, or he will have to be separated from the mom and baby girl.
Its scary but i was reading about fixing them and it said that most chins do make it out of being fixed just fine. Should we take the chance and get the baby boy fixed too?
After you get the boy fixed, keep as close an eye on him as possible. If he acts strange in anyway or bleeds even a tiny bit, bring him right back to the vet to get him checked out. That way, they can catch any problems early on and help him get better.
Since the chinchilla is a baby, I doubt you'll be able to get him fixed right away. Talk to your vet about a good time to take care of that.

God, your chin was NOT fine and should have had more care after the surgery. And if you decide to get your male, baby chin fixed, then make sure that he doesn't have the same trouble after the procedure or else you need to tell the vet that he needs care and to figure out what's wrong because you don't want his life to end like his dad's. If it's a different vet, then make sure you explain to them the exact problem that happened to your other chinchilla and find out what went wrong and what he or she will do to ensure it does not happen again. Sorry i sound kind of angry, but you need to be firm with the vet because they made a mistake here, and you have a right to find out why they were missled, and what they will do to make sure that your new chin will not have the same fate as him.
