Favourite quotes of the moment:
The children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years - Even in biblical times men wouldn't ask for directions!
Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. whatever we do to the thread, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. - Chief Seattle.
We spend the first 12 months of a child's life teaching them to walk and talk. We spend the next 12 years telling them to sit down and shut up!
As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never be pointing the wrong way.
May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.
I've been very happily married since August 1980 to a wonderful man and have beautiful twin girls, now aged 31. Both are married to wonderful young men and one of our girls has recently made us grandparents to a beautiful, smart and feisty granddaughter. I studied geology with the Open University. I am retired from being a manager in a large UK based insurance company which I actually quite enjoyed. (How sad is that?). I love anything to do with the environment and wildlife and try to do my bit for preservation and conservation. I would like there to be a decent world for our grandchildren to inherit. I also have CFS so find life a bit of a challenge at times but always hope for better health in the future.
I have a deep interest in the spiritual and the paranormal worlds, having experienced several incidents myself, and have been involved in meditation groups and groups that (safely) explore the paranormal. There is more to this life than we would normally credit, so an open mind is always the best option. You're not so likely to get caught by surprise!
I have a deep fascination for anything to do with Ancient Egypt, as you can probably tell by my name. I have statues and paintings all around the house. As my hubby has a similar interest in Native Americans, we tend to have a lot of unusual wall decorations, like a tomahawk.
I love cars, especially vintage ones, but my all time favourite has to be the Bugatti Chiron, what a car!
I have had a lot to do with animals over the years. I have fostered many, helped to set up a wildlife charitable hospital and raised a diverse range of young animals from bats to fox cubs and different species of birds, even a baby deer! I have had great pleasure in sharing my life and home with a number of animals over the years, most of them rescues. I am currently sponsoring an Amur Tiger, they are such beautiful cats and desperately need help, there are so few of them left. I was lucky enough a couple of years ago to meet some Aye-Aye's and Livingstone's Bats, a truly wonderful experience. We now have three cats, Oliver and Mollie, a brother and sister, he's a ginger and she's a tortoiseshell and a black and white called Daisy. She arrived in a taxi and was left on our doorstep in a cat carrier with the message that 'they knew we loved cats and would be good to her'. She has settled down well and gets on wonderfully with the other two.
If you have a pet that is showing ANY signs of illness or distress, please, please, please take it to a vet! Even if finance is an issue, work that out later. It is cruel to leave an animal suffering for any reason. Most animals do not show signs of illness until they have been ill for some time, basic instinct tells them it is a display of vulnerability, and certain death in the wild. Their instincts have not caught up with domesticity.
I do feel that we should all treat others as we would wish to be treated. Bad karma comes back to haunt us.

One, three and four are by Edmund Blair Leighton, but I'm sorry I don't know who painted two and five.
1. Call to Arms
3. Signing the Register
4. My Fair Lady (that one is my favourite)
I tried unsuccessfully to find the other two.
Whats the purpose of a garder?
Is it just .. there? Lol, or is
there a reason girls wear it under their
dresses?
Do you mean a garter? If so, it was used before tights were invented as one way of keeping stockings up, the other was a suspender belt. It's traditionally used now for a bride to wear under her wedding dress. It usually has blue on it somewhere, quite often as a bow. The blue symbolises loyalty and purity.
hi i have to get a famous painting related to weddings and draw it for support studies in my art class.I have looked in my local library but it is rubbish so does any one no of any paintings???preferably quite famous or well known.i would be greatful for your help if their is any art fanatics out their!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know its January, and I'm in Britain so usually all the wasps here are dead my now, but yesterday I got stung twice by a wasp, on my finger and on my leg, and it hurt so much! I was just wondering how long wasp stings usually take to stop hurting.
I was at school yeseterday morning when it happened, and the school couldn't put any spray or cream on it to stop it hurting then (apparently they're not allowed to administer anything) so it hasn't been treated or anything.
Just to add to the other excellent advice you have already had - if it's still hurting, you could try an antihistamine as well, piriton etc. This should help to reduce the swelling. Painkillers like paracetomol should help too.
We have had unseasonably warm weather right up to Christmas, so there are still some insects around that are not normally at this time of year.
Schools are not allowed to administer medication now in case something goes wrong and they are held liable.
Hope you recover soon.
what kind of birds make the best pets? im looking at small or medium birds, no large birds like parrots or anything. ive had multiple birds in the past, so i have experiance with brids.
I've added a couple of websites that give information on various types of birds and their suitability as pets for different lifestyles. the second one, if you scroll down, gives a breakdown on most of them and lots of details like traits, life expectancy, sizes and how to tell male from female.

Usually I'm not a real big believer on the whole "horoscope" thing. My boyfriend was saying that he was a "fire". His birthday is August 8th. I think but I'm not sure he is a Taurus.
Is there a website I can find more out about this?
I'm a cancer and really want to get into the whole "fire" or "water" or "wind" thing.
Thanks.
Fire signs: Leo, Saggitarius, Aries
Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Water signs: Scorpio, Pisces, Cancer
Air signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
He is a Leo (fire) Big heart, proud, doesn't like being crossed and a law unto himself.
Cancer (Water) Compassionate, protective, adores her partner, devastated if he lets her down.
Should be a good match. :)
I am 16 years old and I have missed my period for almost more than 6 months. But during that I have been getting these abdominal pains, which, most of the time, feels minor and i feel little pain. But then there are these huge abdominal pains that hurt so bad i can't even move! It worries me so much. I do have an appointment for a Gyno which is on the 23rd of January but I feel it should be sooner because it sounds so serious to me. People tell me I might have a cyst, but I wonder if my symptoms are related to a possibility of getting/having one? Does anybody have any ideas on what it could possibly be?
And I get really heavy discharge, and it comes out anywhere from a gray color to a yellowish color that smells horribly bad.. so I don't know if that relates to the problems that I have above, but I hope it helps at least somewhat.
But as a note, I do have the option to go to a male Gyno (since the one I made an appt. for is a female), however I am extremely uncomfortable going to one. I would hate to sound sexist (which I am not one), but I would feel my privacy is invaded so I chose not to go to a male. Also, the female Gyno I have is the only female Gyno that covers the insurance that I have in my area (like within 20 miles) so I can't just "go find another one."
.. And no I am not pregnant nor sexually active; I am a virgin.
Thanks in advance!
p.s.- sorry this is really long but i appreciate it for taking the time to read this.
Your reservations about seeing a male Gyno is totally understandable, but please don't let this be a problem if you have the chance to stop yourself worrying sooner than the 23rd January. Male doctors really don't seem to see their female patients as women, they are only interested in the symptoms and the cure. In my experience male gyno's have been more gentle and understanding than the women, (and at my age I've seen a lot!).
No one here is going to be able to correctly diagnose your symptoms as you do need to be seen by a professional, and it would be wrong of us to try.
I do hope you are able to have this problem resolved very soon and that it is easily treated.
Good luck. :)
I get headaches all the time and im tired of taking things like advil. is there anything better that i could use to get rid of the headaches? thanks
Sorry to hear you're suffering but I don't think anyone should suggest any other medication at the moment as it depends on the reason for the headaches. You should really go to the doctor first to check things are ok. If you get the all clear from him, maybe you need an eye exam. If your eyes are fine, then it could be stress, tiredness, light sensitivity, excess noise, bad sleeping position, etc.
Taking any medication is just trying to mask the symptoms, you need to find out what the cause is and deal with that.
Hope you feel better soon.
ello. i need to write an essay on anything i want. but the problem is i am drawing blanks on ideas. i prefer to write about important topics. in the past i have written about controversial topics and i am good once i actually have a topic. do y'all have any ideas at all? thanx for any help:)

Roxy and Lela are best friends. Im new at the school and Roxy was helping me to find my feet in the real world. We went to a party and all the guys started hitting on me. I told Kyle to stuff off because Lela liked him. But he didnt. Through out the night Lela started saying that she hated me and that I was just a pain. Roxy feels like she is trapped in the middle and i dont want her to be. What can I do so that I can still be friends with Roxy but she doesnt feel like she is constantly stuck in the middle? I feel compelled to mention that she was intoxicated and i was sober.
It's great that you are sensitive to this issue and want to do something to improve the situation.
I would say that first of all you need to talk to Roxy, explain what happened and apologise for your part, (however innocent), in her feeling this way. Explain that you don't want to come between their friendship but that you value the friendship Roxy has shown you.
Then you need to talk to Lela. This will be the difficult one. Jealousy is not the easiest emotion to deal with and that is what Lela is suffering from. A guy she liked, and others, prefered you, the new girl. You need to make her feel better about this.
Depending on what she is like, you could start by apologising to her, maybe keeping it light, saying that it's only because you're new and that they'll soon get used to you and get a sense of proportion.
If Kyle continues to hang around you, try telling him to go away in the sight and/or hearing of Lela, so that she understands that you are not encouraging him.
Ask Roxy for any tips on making Lela feel better as she's known her longer. She may also be jealous of the possibility losing her friendship with Roxy to you. So you could try asking for Lela's help or advice on some things, even if you don't take it. Making her feel more a part of things and wanted, could help her feel better.
I don't think alcohol would have too much to do with what happened, only that it does tend to loosen tongues, enabling things to be said that wouldn't normally.
However, at the end of it all, you appear to have done nothing wrong. Some people are just of a jealous nature, usually from a sense of low self worth, and there's really not much you can do about that one.
As long as you feel you have done all you can to rectify things, try to let it go and accept that there are always going to be people that are not going to like you. There will be plenty more that will, concentrate on them.
Hope that helps and good luck.

For Christmas I was planning on making my parents a clay bowl in my art class at school and giving it to them as a gift. Now we had a school closure for a few days (due to a storm) and I wasn't able to finish the bowl in time even though I've been working on it for weeks.
All I have to give to my parents on Christmas morning is a set of wine glasses (which I got them last year as well but they all broke).
I don't have a job or any money to buy them something else. What can I do? My friends are all giving their parents tons of gifts and things. I feel like I should have tried harder and gotten them more.
What can I do? And should I feel this way?
Thank you
I doubt your parents will mind and should understand about the school problem.
How about making them a voucher so that they have something to open. This could say "I promise to give the bearer one handmade bowl" or if you don't want to tell them what it is, put 'present' instead of bowl. Then, when you do go back to school and can finish it, they still have something to look forward to when everyone else has already opened all their presents.
Hope that helps and good luck.
I know this is so totally dumb to ask but I have been wondering about this..
Why do cats hate dogs so much and vice versa? I mean, I know there are some cats and dogs out there who can get along with each other just fine, but so many of them can't. How so?
Cats and dogs that are brought up together in the same family don't usually have problems with each other, but there could still be personality clashes.
However, as they are both hunters by nature and hunt in different ways, they can feel threatened by each other. Dogs in the wild hunt in packs, cats hunt solo.
Generally dogs will only try to attack a cat if the cat runs. The dog knows that a cats claws and teeth are very dangerous and would usually not risk the damage to their faces. A cat running away brings out the hunting instinct in a dog, which is when the cat becomes most at risk.
Cats, on the other hand, hunt by stealth and they have a much higher sense of smell than dogs. (Maybe dogs upset a cats sensitivities on that score?)
They also have opposite methods of communicating which can lead to errors of judgement. A dog wags its tail if it's happy, a cat when it's cross. Dogs lie on their backs to have their tums rubbed, cats will quite often lie down to fight with all four sets of claws, (and teeth).
They can be as complex as human interactions if not more so , but that gives you an insight into some of the problems they face. :)
I am 15 years old and my grandmother (50) is expecting me to haev kids at 16 but I feel that is too young.i want to have kids at 30 years old but my parents thinks it is old. so can anyone tell me if it is?I really want to enjoy my 20's adn have fun.so thanks for your answers!
I would say that as it is your body, it's your decision when and if you want to have children. However, I do agree with you that 16 is rather young, you really need some time to find out about you before you have to look after anyone else. Lots of women are waiting until their 30's these days to start a family.
Unless it's an ethnic issue where you would need to be very careful how you word it, maybe just tell them how you feel.
At your age, I was convinced I never wanted children but by the time I reached 25 I had totally changed my mind. Maybe you could offer them some comfort in saying that there is a chance you might do the same?
Please don't feel pressurised into something you are not ready for. It's you who will have to deal with the consequences, not them.
Good luck.
i have a problem with my cat. she will use her box but only when im at home or when im in my room where her box is at. any other time she will pee on everything and anything. i dont know how to get her to stop peeing on everything. should i buy another litter box to put downstairs? i need some help!!
Cats generally feel very vulnerable when they have to toilet as they are unable to defend themselves at this point should they need to. She will feel more secure when you are in the house and so is more likely to use the litter tray. When you are out, she may feel nervous. When this happens a cat's natural reaction is to mark her territory so that there is a familiar, reassuring smell wherever she goes in the house.
Trying to reprimand her will not work unless you actually catch her in the act, as she will not associate your behaviour and angry voice with something she may have done some time ago, even if you try to show her what she has done! You are more likely to make her more nervous and scared of you as well.
Shutting her in a small room whilst you are out is one option, ensuring she has everything she needs there. Don't put food near the litter box, she won't like that, but if there are any areas where she has been a persistant offender, you could put a plate of dry food there. If she associates that place with food, she may be less likely to soil.
There are also things on the market that could help. Vets sell a plug in pheramone that is supposed to make cats feel more relaxed, there are also deterrant sprays you can buy.
Hope that helps and good luck.
Send me an email and I will give you more information. :)
so there was a job advertised at work which i and another girl applied for, she had her interview a few days after she had applied, 2 weeks on i still hadnt heard anything... so i made an official complaint to my manager about it.
Anyway this girl that applied has only been there 6 months and has a less relevant background than me for it.
I then got told today that i wasnt going to get an interview and i found out this other girl got it. i feel totally robbed and annoyed.
Should I quit? what should i do?
Ask your manager for feedback on the application you did. Maybe the other girl put something on hers that you didn't, and that made the difference.
A good way to impress employers in this situation is to ask for this as advice for the future. They like to think that you are interested in improving how you go about things. Always ask for this feedback in a positive light, negativity does not go down well.
You may be justified in feeling robbed and annoyed but be careful how you show this to the company, it could affect how they view further applications or referencing for a different employer.
If you learn how to play the game you should be well placed to get to where you want to be in the future. You don't need to lie, just learn how to phrase things in the way that will appeal to them. With the appropriate feedback you should be able to do this.
Hope that helps and good luck for next time.
I'm a cusp child, born on January 19th, so its kind of hard to find out about my signs like.. together, since usually its just seperate. I'm born in January, but am like on the last day of Capricorn, so I could also be considered part of Aquarius too. I know that zodiac stuff shouldnt really be like taken too seriously, but its kinda fun to read about things and see if they're similar to you or not. anyways, what would my personality be like? and who would i be compatitible with?
also.. many sites show capricorns as like boring and strict and junk. but im so not like that! okay maybe i dont open up to everyone, thats just if i dont really know you, but if someone opens up to me, i'm like an open book! i like to have fun, be adventurous, and would rather play than work, though I like my work to be like.. perfect, lol. well, i guess im pretty hardworking too. this is kinda why I need the zodiac info for the cusp thingie!
-thanks
The change over happens at different times of the day each year, and is also affected by the part of the world you were born in. So you would need to find out what time you were born add the other information and then find out when the signs cusped. That will give you your star sign. :)
Basically, I have a pretty big nose. There is not a bump, however it's just very wide.
I was wondering if anyone knew how to apply make up so that I can make it look smaller?
I will send a pic to whoever thinks they can help me.
A couple of web sites I found that give tips on disguising the size of a nose. :)

I'm 13/f. But my boyfriend was 16.
1. My step father had started sayig saying That if me and him had sex then that would be statitory rape, consensual or not.
Is it possible for him to get into trouble for having sex with me?
2. My parents put a restraing order against him. Once I'm not a minor anymore is it possible for that restraining order to count like would he get in trouble for being with me again?
--Sid
You don't say where you are but in the UK the age of consent is 16. So even if the person under this age agrees to sex it can still be classed as statutary rape. This means that, yes, he can get into quite serious trouble, particularly if your parents have already taken steps like a restraining order.
The law decided that anyone under the age of consent is too young to make that decision themselves, so the law steps in to make it for them. Variations on this ruling will apply where ever you are. If you are in the US the age may change from state to state.
The restraining order prohibits him from contacting you or coming within a specified distance. If he breaks this, he could be arrested.
Once you are no longer a minor, sex would not be classed as rape as long as you have agreed, (at any point you should change your mind and he does not stop, it would be deemed as rape).
The restraining order may have its own clauses that you would need to check.
Hope that helps.
What are the requirements to become a level II moderator? If you feel like you are a really good Level I moderator, can you make an appeal to become a Level II moderator? I feel like I could do it! Thanks!

Almost impossible, but here's the link that tells you more. :)
I have been taking asthma medicine, but last night i had an asthma attack at 3 am.
They are the scariest thing ever, is there any way to deal with them or make them less scary or even prevent them?
Sometimes i cant go back to sleep after one, or i sweat or get scared of having another one.
Thank you
14/f
I know what you mean, I've had asthma for 36 years and it can still be scary to have an attack.
The first thing I would suggest is to make sure you are on the right medication and dosage. If it is being controlled correctly, you should not be getting attacks unless you have an infection or been exposed to an irritant. It sounds as though you need to see an asthma specialist if you have not already done so.
Check your room for irritants, are your pillows made from feathers, do you have wool in your room etc, these can cause allergic reactions leading to an asthma attack.
Not being able to breathe is one of the most frightening of experiences. Some methods I have found that worked for me are:
Counting your breaths in and out and gradually trying to slow them down, (people can hyperventilate when they are having an attack, which makes things worse).
Don't lie down during and after recovering from one, prop yourself up with pillows, it should make it easier to breathe.
Enlist a parent to sit with you until you have got over one and gone back to sleep, being alone at this time can make you feel a lot worse.
Experiment with different climates in your bedroom if you can. A dehumidifier may benefit you, or you could be an asthmatic that is helped with warm steam.
Listen to some soothing music or try to read, anything that will distract you without using energy.
I hope this helps and you are able to find methods of controlling it more. Let me know if you need any more information. Take care and sleep well.
