Cats generally feel very vulnerable when they have to toilet as they are unable to defend themselves at this point should they need to. She will feel more secure when you are in the house and so is more likely to use the litter tray. When you are out, she may feel nervous. When this happens a cat's natural reaction is to mark her territory so that there is a familiar, reassuring smell wherever she goes in the house.
Trying to reprimand her will not work unless you actually catch her in the act, as she will not associate your behaviour and angry voice with something she may have done some time ago, even if you try to show her what she has done! You are more likely to make her more nervous and scared of you as well.
Shutting her in a small room whilst you are out is one option, ensuring she has everything she needs there. Don't put food near the litter box, she won't like that, but if there are any areas where she has been a persistant offender, you could put a plate of dry food there. If she associates that place with food, she may be less likely to soil.
There are also things on the market that could help. Vets sell a plug in pheramone that is supposed to make cats feel more relaxed, there are also deterrant sprays you can buy.
Hope that helps and good luck.

Send me an email and I will give you more information. :)

For one you should get the box out of your room. Then I would suggest putting the box like in a basement or a bathroom. You should really keep your room picked up as well. Make sure you keep everything up in your room, if you must have a litter box in your room. Also make sure you keep the litter box clean. If you need anymore help with your cat just ask.

If you want your room to stink, then go head. Whatever you stinky nasty person. By the way, do you want your room to smell like crap? Nasty person.

Cat's need to be trained to go in their litter box. If you have a 2 story house and the cat can go both places it may be a good idea to put one on both stories. Eventually they will learn, but when they do something bad, you have to let them know they did something bad or they will never learn. If she pees on something, take her to it, show it to her and tap her on the nose. (Not hard to hurt her, just soft to tell her not to do it again.)

i recommend that you lock her in a small room with food, water, bed, litterbox while your out to get her use to pottying there..and it may sound kinda weird but put some of her "mess" in the pan to encourage her to go. hope this helps
