Hey, I'm Mara. I love dancing. It's practically my favourite thing to do. I love House, R&B, pretty much everything with a good beat, and Benny Benassi is my hero; that's why my column is a shrine to him. I graduated this year and am now in my first year of college where I'm trying to pick a major. Chances are you'll see some of my Psychology questions floating around somewhere here. I'm also extremely interested in Political Science too because I, like half the people living in Canada, somehow want to change the world. I particularly want to find a cure for poverty, corruption, cancer, AIDS and George Bush because honestly, I think those are the biggest problems we have right now. I have decided that maybe I should take the time to live a little before I start though because I have a good fifty years ahead of me to fix all the issues there are. Currently my life consists of: studying, working, socializing, eating and ocassionaly sleeping. I spent practically all of my high school life being a delinquent and partying to huge extents until I discovered my brain sometime in the middle of my senior year. I still like to have a good time every once in a while but you always need to find that balance (I haven't exactly found it yet but I'm getting close). Unfortunatley, a habit that has stuck with me from school is my obsessive gossiping. I just can't stop and you know, an article in Cosmo says that gossipers are healthier people because they bond over it? Who would have thought? Anyway, I do have my limitations and I don't condone nasty, brutal gossiping and I don't gossip about anything my friends have told me in confidence or something about someone else that they have slipped to me, however, if I find you in a washroom at a random party making out with my bestfriends's boyfriend, a few people are probably going to hear about it. Actually, more than a few people will hear about it because one of my absolute pet peeves is parties where the all the bathrooms are occupied due to sexual activity or... puking activity. Sooooo what else is there to know about me? My favourite thing in the world is shopping and my worst fear is existantialism. I am OCDey in a clinical way so you can ask me questions about that. You can ask me practically anything you want except for dumb questions but I'm not going to answer them in my little column here because it's a huge waste of space when I could be writing about myself (Click 'LookIt' on my menubar for answers to dumb questions so you don't have to embarass yourself asking them and getting bitched out from me). What I can do, is offer you three pieces of truly inspirational advice. Firstly, never live your life by what others want of you, cherish yourself and everyone around you, and never beat yourself down about anything you couldn't have avoided. Secondly, donate at least ten percent of the income you earn in your life to someone who needs it. Lastly, never get into a bulldozer when you're under the influence and start driving it towards a poor freshmen (I am never going to another kegger ever again... ever). Ok, I'll shut up now. You can start asking me stuff, if you haven't hit the back button already.

idiot! i just talked to my old-crush online, and i have this weird feeling now. like i hate him. im bitter, i think. ugh! i wrote him an email a while ago, and now i asked him howcome he never answered? (it was just a polite email, like "hey its been a while, how's life?") and he was really rude about it!! and then we kept talking, and got into a discussion.. nd after a while he said "you know what, im not in the mood to talk to you to be honest" and he was just.. a complete jerk. so i was like "whatever dude, bye" and he said "bye bye now" and now we're both online, not talking to eachother, and im staring at his screenname with.. anger, i think. im not sure what it is i feel but i dont like it. i hate him, i hate myself. i feel so inferior now, just help me please! what do i do?
Aww honey, I totally know how you feel. It's normal, it's the typical feeling of rejection, on a smaller scale. You'll feel very angry at him and right now, you probably feel like you want to kill him.
I can see about two options from here; you'll either get over it and start liking him again or you'll get over him.
But this guy sounds like a jerkface. He'll probably realize his mistake sooner or later and by then you'll have moved on.
I urge you to find someone else but no one can control their own feelings towards a person.

for school, i had to do this whole project on a character in this book we read. I had to do an encyclopedia entry, a letter from my character to another, a myspace, AND an obituary. I need a good idea of how i can bind these things altogether and also how can i make it look better. i just dont wanna print it out and hand in 4 pieces of paper stapled together. any ideas? thanks so much!!
What I used to do was, take two pieces of construction paper to act as 'covers', then stack all six papers together and hole punch them. Then I'd use a ribbon that accented the colour of the construction paper and use it to make individual bows in each hole or string them together (you can do this creatively in a lot of ways). Then I'd make a picture on the first piece of construction paper or print something out for it.
You can also use different types of construction paper (maybe coffee stained to make it look older) to make a look that is unique to your project.

what are some cute christmas ideas for under $5? i need to buy for 9 members of my family and don't have too much money. please do not suggest food/candy/homemade gifts/or for me to go to the dollar store. thank you.
Well, there's a lot of stuff you can get them specific to their needs.
A coffee/milk drinker would appreciate a mug with a funny quote or picture on it.
You could get a nice smelling body lotion, bath oil or soap for someone who loves a certain smell (i.e. vanilla or lilacs)
You could get a keychain for your mom or dad. There's always a few "Best Dad In The World" or "#1 Mom"s lying around in shops and you may even run across a few for grandparents.
A small set of eyeshadows or two lipsticks tied with a ribbon would be ideal for a little sister, cousin or niece.
You could get a small stuffed animal for someone young in the family, or hey, someone old.
Once you walk into a store, I'm sure you'll be able to find tons of stuff under $5 that could be really meaningful.

two of my classes are doin secret santa and we have to buy a present that is for guy and girls and if i buy lip gloss then guys won't like it and i don't know wat guys like so any ideas on wat i should get so guys and girls would like them too
I suggest getting them a gift card for a fast food place, Starbucks, or a place that sells unisex clothing.
You could always buy a CD too. R&B CDs are a safe choice, especially those ones by Usher and Justin Timberlake because they seem to be a hit with the guys too.

my teacher gave me a huge test .. and we only have 2 days to study. So for me with sports and all that gives me only 2 hours.. but then i have to eat and do other homework. Is there any easy way to study.. like saying it a lot or writing in a certain way.

Whenever I'm in a crunch for time, I recopy all my notes. I look over them, see if I understand them and write them over again in brief on another paper. If I don't get a certain section, I look it up in my textbook.
I also try to read the main points in the notes and go over them again and again *when I'm eating or in the washroom) and then go back to the notes after and double-check to see if I got them right.
I also try to look at concepts too and make sure they are memorized.
Usually, it takes me about six hours to be thoroughly prepared with all the material but every person is different so I suggest you give yourself some time and start right now.

does anyone know any good places where a teenager going on to the age 16 might be able to find a good paying job with flexible hours because i travel alot for sports but i could really use the money and im a really hard worker. thanks for the help!
Practically any part time job should be flexible enough for a student to pursue other extracurricular activities.
Groovejob is a pretty good job hunting site but one that I find less formal is www.craigslist.org. www.monster.com is also a nice site, it's a little more professional.
Just remember to translate all your enthusiasm into your resume and your initial drop-off and interviews.

I am performing at a celebration evening. We have been asked to write and perform a play that is either hilarious or contains a strong message. We did hilarious last celebration evening.
So i need a play that contains a strong message. we were thinking bullying which results to suicide, or following the 'it' crowd and see wheere you get in ten years.

A really good piece of fiction that could be adapted into a play is The Matchstick Girl.
Disney made an amazing version that they stuck with The Little Mermaid, the special 2-disk edition. I cried my eyes out over that one. You can see a poor version of it here:

I don't have a best friend-I have many acqaintances and some what friends that I can BARELY count on. No one ever invites me anywhere--and if I do invite people anywhere, it doesn't work out for them. OR I often invite people and I never EVER get an invite back. Why haven't I had a boyfriend yet? 16 and single--never been kissed. LIFE SUCKS. I guess I'm tragically ugly or something and how come I'm so uncomfortable around guys? I can never find myself to be calm and untensed around them. I feel like everyone uses me and I give my all to be happy--but in the end, I get nothing. I know I don't have a specific question--but can someone give me somewhat of a resolution to my devastating life?
Sugar, children in Africa have devastating lives, yours is far from it.
You're not tragically ugly unless that's what you tell yourself and that may be what is the cause of all your problems.
What you need is a little confidence. People will not feel excited about hanging out with someone who is miserable or overeager to be their friends.
You need to start telling yourself that you are an awesome, amazing person and that everyone should want to date you or be your friend.
If you start walking around like that instead of moping with your head down all the time, you'll be attracting people like honey and bees.
Now stop with the pity party and start strutting your stuff.

Leaving him is a good route to take except that 29 years is a long time. I would recommend you get a seperation (just so it hits him that you're serious) if you have children though, just so it'll make the transition easier.
The important thing is to not let it get you down, you were faithful for him for three decades and he's an ass enough to cheat on you? You can count on yourself to attract someone who appreciates that.

The hair on my upper lip is very dark and for quiet awhile I've been shaving it. I hate doing this because it comes back so quickly/prickly plus I feel like a guy. It's not like I had a mustache, just the hair was dark and I made a bad choice. I want to find a way to get rid of it for more than a few days. Bleaching it would do nothing because it would still stay prickly. I've tried a wax kit and it didn't get all of the hair away, plus it hurt. I could get it done professionaly if it comes to that .. but are there any other ways? Thanks.

I had a normal period in september. Then when it was time for me to have my next period in october i was late. I thought that i might be pregnant so i took a hpt. It showed a faint positive sign. I took one the next morning just to be sure that it was positive and just not the pg test. It showed a faint positive sign. I decided to wait a few days and take another one. I did and it did the same as the first two. So i took a few more. i decided to go to my local health clinic for a pg test (which was a week later). they said it showed a faint positive sign but that i was definitely pg. the following night i started my so called period. i called my mother and she said that it happens and that she had a period for the 1st 3 months of her pregnancy w/ my sister. So i decided to wait. i haven't been to the doc. yet do to insurance problems. Its now a month and a few days later i started again could i still be pregnant?
Yes, it's okay. My friend has a history of all the females getting their periods during their pregnancy.

I don't understand this. Many people are beginning to say X-mas. Well, the whole point of Christmas is because it is the birth of Christ. Isn't calling Christmas X-mas taking the whole point of Christmas away?
Christmas used to be known as a pagan celebration. Please don't be ignorant and think it is original to Christianity although Christianity and commercialism -is- in actuality what popularized it.

Okay well, when I whisper a song, like..as in singing it but I'm whispering it I sound really good. I don't sing out loud often, even when I'm by myself cause I'm scared I'll sound horrible. one of my very good friends has had this MAJOIR OBSESIVE CRUSH on this guy in our grade. shes liked him for 5 years now & has hardly said 2 words to him. i've become very good friends with him & gotten to know him very well. he asked me if she liked him [because it was totally obvious] and i said yes. she is really worried now that he likes me not her & is starting to get frustrated. i'm sick of hearing all of her drama about this boy & i really think she just needs to move on with her life, but how am i supposed to tell this to the most shy girl in our grade. she has cried on the phone to me for 5 hours before, when he didn't ask her to dance at our 8th grade graduation party. i'm just stuck we're sophmores in highschool & shes still obsessed with him. how do i tell her to move on without breaking her heart even more?
I know a lot of girls who have been totally obsessed with a guy and once they started going out things started falling into place. Actually, a lot of them dumped the guy because they saw his real self instead of the idealistic version they saw him to be.
Chances are, you telling her to move on is just going to make her think you're clearing the way for you and him so why don't you help her out a bit? Set them up on a date and coach her so she doesn't fall to pieces on it and before the month's end she'll either be over him, or going out with him but at least she won't be as crazy-obsessed.

It's totally fine. Everyones labia majora and minora can vary. They are all different sizes and shapes and have different bumps and wrinkles. Don't worry about it.
