Alright, for christmas i just got the white MacBook. i was wondering if its true that its basically impossibal to get a viuris (spelling?) on it. and if i should get limewire since my mom gets mad that i spend alot of money on her itunes account.
*does limewire slow down your macbook ALOT?
*do you think it is worth it?
*have you personally, or has a friend had a problem with his/her macbook from limewire?
(OR FROSTWIRE!!!!)
thank you!
Viruses usually only work for one operating system (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, etc.). Since not that many people use Macs, only a few people have bothered to create viruses for them. Macs are not inherently *immune* to viruses, though, and it's possible that someone could create a virus in the future.
Downloading music off of Limewire is almost always illegal. Peerguardian will help prevent you from getting caught. However, it does this by blocking 65% of the entire Internet based on extremely strict and often ridiculous criteria. Chances are that you are blocked by it, either because the blacklist's bogon list is way out of date or your ISP can be connected to the RIAA in six degrees or less. The people who maintain the Peerguardian blacklists are paranoid idiots. Do not use it.

The disk drive on my computer keeps repeatedly ejecting. Every time I close it, it'll eject again. What's the deal?
The button that you push to open it, I know that you're supposed to use that button to close it again, but on this computer (it's a Vista, if that means anything) the button folds down when the drive's open. So to close it, I've just been pushing it in.
Sorry if that didn't make any sense.
Any idea what the problem could be? And if it's fixable?
Follow my guide here:
http://www.advicenators.com/talkaboutmetopic.php?t=269&userboard_id=38985
If the problem isn't fixed after the first restart, it's probably something wrong with drive itself. Turn off your computer, open it up, and unplug both sides of every cable that comes out of the disk drive. Then plug them back in. That will ensure a proper connection.
If that doesn't work, I would try the drive in another computer to make sure it's the drive that's causing the problem. If it happens on another computer (or doesn't happen with another drive), I would replace the drive. If it doesn't happen on another computer, I would guess it's some sort of driver issue. Reinstalling Windows will probably fix it; if it doesn't it's a hardware incompatibility and I would just get a new drive.

I purchased the usb cable for my Pantech Matrix. It didn't come with any software, and when I hooked it up to my computer it asks for a driver. There was a link on the AT&T site that someone had put there for the driver, but the link is broke. Does anyone know where I can find this driver? I want to add music ot my phone and I tried it with my SD card and that didn't work either. Any help would be appreciated.
Here are two Pantech Drivers I found online. I have no idea if they work. The driver that you were linked to is included.
http://drop.io/hzmctcn/asset/pantechdrivers
If that link doesn't work, use one of these (it's the same file):
http://www.divshare.com/download/6237140-488
http://in.solit.us/archives/download/158079
If that doesn't work, read this forum thread:
http://tinyurl.com/7jll2a
It might be your cable.

I doubled checked the Java error, It turns out it was a normal Java start up error. I'm still not sure of what exactly it means. In the error it doesn't say anything but a bunch of error text. It came up while I was trying to download the game "Oregon Trail"
I need to known exactly what the error says. Send me a screenshot of the error in another question:
-Do something that makes the error appear
-Press the PrintScreen(PrtScn) button on your keyboard
-Go to MS Paint (or any image program) and go to edit -> paste.
-Save the file
-Upload the file to imageshack.us
-Send me the link
Also, send me the exact URL where you're trying to download the game.
You can also contact me in these ways if you prefer:

in "dark knight" the phrase keeps getting repeated that he is a vigilante, that part i get. i dont understand how he is an "outlaw" though? can someone explain that to me?
Compare Batman to Superman. Superman captures the criminal whenever possible and makes sure they get a fair trial. If the court determines that they're innocent, he leaves them alone. He is Lawful Neutral.
Batman, however, will usually kill the criminal outright. He might even kill some innocents, too, if the criminal is an immense threat. And I doubt he would be above torture if he needs information. He is Chaotic Good.
Both are guilty of such crimes as:
Assault
Murder
Kidnapping
Trespassing
Driving over the speed limit
Destruction of property
Owning and using heavy weapons and explosives
Keep in mind that superheros are not usually authorized to fight crime on behalf of the government, and citizen's arrest is only legal in cases where the citizen has observed the criminal commit a felony.
Batman especially ruins a lot of property owned by innocents, and has probably indirectly caused numerous injuries and deaths. If you saw a black-clothed man blowing through a building to chase a clown guy, you would probably assume that they are both evil and insane, and run in the other direction.

Hello!
It seems whenever I try to download a game, I get this Java start up error? I'm not sure if it means files are missing or I need to download a newer version of Java. I tried to download a new version off google however I still seem to get the same error message while attempting to download a game.
Any help is apprechiated!
BahaiMa22
What does the error say? What are you doing when it occurs? What game are you trying to download? Are you sure you mean Java instead of Javascript? They are completely different: Sun Microsystems and java.com have absolutely nothing to do with Javascript.

i have two questions dealing with windows vista?
http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/8139/probnn1.jpg
one is that i have songs on my computer that are blank. i dont remember how they got to be there but they are 0 bytes and i cant get rid of it.
another is that i know that like on windows xp if you download something from a site and if your internet connection stops you can go back on the internet when it is working and go redownload the file starting where you left off but in vista they have the file in parts? like in the picture the file ends in .part and this happens with music files too and when i try downloading in vista the file downloads anew from the same source. i dont know if its possible to pick up where i left off downloading from last time because my internet have been screwy lately.
thank you for all your help. =]
When downloading, your browser creates two files. One is the real file, but it is empty. The other is a .part file, which fills up as you download. Once the download is complete, it fills the real file with whatever is in the .part file and deletes the .part file. You should be able to delete both files when your browser is closed, if you want.
Resuming downloads depends on which browser you're using. Internet Explorer, which comes with XP and Vista, doesn't create part files and doesn't support resuming. Firefox does; it should resume automatically as soon as your Internet connection comes back online.
Additionally, some sites prohibit resuming downloads. In those cases, you are forced to start at the beginning of each download if your Internet connection fails. Part files are still created, usually.
If your Internet connection fails a lot, you should use a download manager. They will make sure your downloads are downloaded correctly, even if your Internet connection is slow or unreliable. I recommend Free Download Manager:

For Christmas i got an 8GB ipod touch. i think that hold around 2000 songs, or so? correct me if im wrong. But I was wondering if there was any way to like add more memory, so i could hold more songs. Is there? thanks!
The average song is 4MB in size. There are 1000MB in 1GB. 8000/4=2000. You are correct.
You can't add additional memory to an iPod.

i have a compaq nx6110 hp laptop. recently i had to format the harddrive and run windows xp.
i try to download adobe flash player from the official website but it doesnt, it says it is downloading but it is not.
i downloaded java but it is not working either.
also i need to download my ethernet controller thingy and 1394 net adapter.
so please tell me the information i need !
You didn't include enough information, which is why this hasn't been answered already. I need to know:
-Which OS you used before the format: XP, Vista, or something else?
-Who performed the format, you or a tech support place?
-How much data was saved from your old configuration? Were all of your files and programs still there after the format?
-What do you mean when you say that Flash "says it is downloading but it is not"? How do you know that it hasn't downloaded? What happens when you try?
-Does your Internet connection work otherwise?
-What else is broken?
Contact me with this information and add it to this question as additional information. You aren't notified when I edit my answer, so you must ask me a personal question or contact me through email or IM if you want a response.

hey theymos i just asked the question about downloading aim and poker..even though it doesnt say the size it will download and can i download them at the same time?
It should download even if it doesn't say the size. You can download them at the same time.
[view]
hi theymos. i was wondering i recently tried to download full tilt pokers game and the new aim onto my computer. i just bought it and it a great computer and very up to date but everytime i go to download either one it comes up but says time and size not know. could that be because i have aol dial up and its out of date?
full tilt is www.fulltiltpoker.com and im sure you know www.aim.com
if you could just explain or if you can find out the sizes of the two files so i know that when its downloading its not just going on forever. thanks so much.
The poker setup is 21.3MB in size. The AIM setup is 12.8MB. The maximum download speed for dial-up is 0.0068MB per second, so downloading the combined 33.1MB will take at least 83 minutes.
That problem is usually caused by your browser. If you're using AOL Explorer, try using Internet Explorer or Firefox. Alternatively, use a download manager. I recommend Free Download Manager:
http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/
(get the "lite" version)

when you get defrosted can you/are you back to life?
No. Cells are severely damaged when frozen. Scientists are not even close to developing the technology necessary to resurrect someone after they have been frozen to death, if it's possible at all. Brain cells might be damaged so severely that they are unrepairable with any technology.

How do you delete stuff from your browser? Like say I have a myspace on my browser. Is there anyway to delete your history of ever being on there? Thanks.
In Firefox, go to Tools -> Clear Private Data. Select, at a minimum, "Browsing History" and "Cache". You should also select "cookies" if you want to leave no trace, but that will log you out of all sites.
To delete just parts of the history rather than the entire thing, go to History -> show all. Right click and delete anything you don't want there. Hold down CTRL while clicking entries to select multiple entries at once. Select one entry and then select another entry while holding SHIFT to select all the entries between the two.
To delete particular cookies rather than all of them, go to Tools -> options -> privacy -> show cookies. Type myspace.com (or whatever) in the "search" field. Remove everything that shows up. Don't include http://, www., or anything after .com (or .org, etc.) in the search field. Just something.com.
Removing certain saved login information is similar to removing cookies: go to Tools -> options -> security -> show passwords.
To delete individual remembered URLs, searches, or form fields, use the arrow keys to select the entry and press DEL.

well sometimes i go to 'dirty' websites.
and i delete the history after.
i have my own computer though.
and nobody else ever uses it but me.
but is there a way my parents can see the websites i visited say through the bill or something?
i reallllly hope not.
A general rule is that if someone can physically access access your computer, it is impossible to hide anything from them.
You can make it more difficult, though, by using CCleaner:
http://www.ccleaner.com/
These should be selected:
-Windows-
*Temporary Internet Files
*Cookies (This will log you out of all sites)
*History
*Recently Typed URLs
*Delete Index.dat files
*Recent Documents (if you downoaded anything)
*Other Explorer MRUs (if you downloaded anything)
*Thumnail cache (if you downloaded anything)
*Empty Recycle bin (if you downloaded anything)
*Temporary Files (if you downloaded anything)
*Clipboard
-Applications
*If you use a browser other than IE, select cookies, history, and cache.
*Any programs that you used for viewing porn, including your media player or image viewer
!!If Adobe Flash Player is selected, you will lose savegames and stats for online Flash games. Only select this if you don't play online games.
After that, you should also create a new system restore in start -> all programs -> accessories -> system tools -> system restore. Then delete all other system restores in start -> all programs -> accessories -> system tools -> disk cleanup -> "more options" tab -> bottom button.
To prevent any of the data you just deleted from being recovered, you can download Eraser and erase unused space. Only 1 pass is necessary:
http://www.heidi.ie/node/6
Alternatively, defragmenting your computer will make it more difficult to recover data. That method is not as secure as using Eraser.
The websites you visit will not be on your bill. The bill would be hundreds of pages long, and it would be expensive to list it in a human-readable format.
To ensure almost complete privacy, you can run PortableFirefox from a Truecrypt volume:
http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable
http://www.truecrypt.org/
It's a bit difficult to set up. Contact me if you need help.

Whenever my computer loads any internet java like youtube videos, it will not load or it will play for about 5 seconds then skip to the beginning and stop. I have java 10.
Youtube uses Flash, not Java. Uninstall Flash from add/remove programs, then use this Flash uninstaller to ensure complete removal:
http://tinyurl.com/2fm3jd
Then restart your computer and reinstall Flash:
http://tinyurl.com/8nl2oz
The problem should now be fixed in Internet Explorer. If you are using Firefox, COPY this file:
C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32.dll
to this location:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins
Overwrite the file if it already exists there.
Contact me by IM if that doesn't work. My contact information is on my column.

I am trying to make some videos off of windows movie maker. my movies are made off of my camera that you use to take pics and not a video camera. i know i need to convert my vids to avi, mpg, mpeg, or something else. i used "Any Video Converter" to convert them. I converted one to avi, mpg, and mpeg. I try to upload all of them from the three different deals to the windows movie maker. when i import them at the end of it it says
The file C:\Documents and Settings\Kelsie\My Documents\Any Video Converter\AVI\Kelse&Kadi- country grammar_xvid.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.
I have closed it and reopened it several times. i've even restarted my computer. what do i do?
In Any Video Converter, choose the profile "Customized WMV Movie (*.wmv)". This will work in Windows Movie Maker. The default conversion settings will be fine.
Alternatively, follow my advice here to install the necessary codecs:
http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=554566
Windows Movie Maker doesn't natively support the default xvid encoding that Any Video Converter uses for avi, and it only supports MPEG-1 and 2, not the default MPEG-4.

how do i get it to where i can actually use it?
**Alex_ABC_123, follow the alternative instructions in my guide here:
http://www.advicenators.com/talkaboutmetopic.php?t=644&userboard_id=38985
**
Move that file to C:\WINDOWS\Fonts. Ignore any warnings about possibly harming your computer.
