About Mara
Hey, I'm Mara. I love dancing. It's practically my favourite thing to do. I love House, R&B, pretty much everything with a good beat, and Benny Benassi is my hero; that's why my column is a shrine to him. I graduated this year and am now in my first year of college where I'm trying to pick a major. Chances are you'll see some of my Psychology questions floating around somewhere here. I'm also extremely interested in Political Science too because I, like half the people living in Canada, somehow want to change the world. I particularly want to find a cure for poverty, corruption, cancer, AIDS and George Bush because honestly, I think those are the biggest problems we have right now. I have decided that maybe I should take the time to live a little before I start though because I have a good fifty years ahead of me to fix all the issues there are. Currently my life consists of: studying, working, socializing, eating and ocassionaly sleeping. I spent practically all of my high school life being a delinquent and partying to huge extents until I discovered my brain sometime in the middle of my senior year. I still like to have a good time every once in a while but you always need to find that balance (I haven't exactly found it yet but I'm getting close). Unfortunatley, a habit that has stuck with me from school is my obsessive gossiping. I just can't stop and you know, an article in Cosmo says that gossipers are healthier people because they bond over it? Who would have thought? Anyway, I do have my limitations and I don't condone nasty, brutal gossiping and I don't gossip about anything my friends have told me in confidence or something about someone else that they have slipped to me, however, if I find you in a washroom at a random party making out with my bestfriends's boyfriend, a few people are probably going to hear about it. Actually, more than a few people will hear about it because one of my absolute pet peeves is parties where the all the bathrooms are occupied due to sexual activity or... puking activity. Sooooo what else is there to know about me? My favourite thing in the world is shopping and my worst fear is existantialism. I am OCDey in a clinical way so you can ask me questions about that. You can ask me practically anything you want except for dumb questions but I'm not going to answer them in my little column here because it's a huge waste of space when I could be writing about myself (Click 'LookIt' on my menubar for answers to dumb questions so you don't have to embarass yourself asking them and getting bitched out from me). What I can do, is offer you three pieces of truly inspirational advice. Firstly, never live your life by what others want of you, cherish yourself and everyone around you, and never beat yourself down about anything you couldn't have avoided. Secondly, donate at least ten percent of the income you earn in your life to someone who needs it. Lastly, never get into a bulldozer when you're under the influence and start driving it towards a poor freshmen (I am never going to another kegger ever again... ever). Ok, I'll shut up now. You can start asking me stuff, if you haven't hit the back button already.

my friend 1 was asking me who i like and i didnt wanna tell her but then my friend 2 was there and shes like giving hints about him like
"oh hes taken" "she has a crush on her cousin's cousin" " hes not freshman" "hes older than this guy" and all that stuff BUT she just didnt say the name and my friend 1 doesnt know him and all because he goes to other school so the friend 1 has no clue. But she didnt say anything about the other guy i liked because friend 1 knows him and stuff but
Do you think shes blabbing the guy who i like? should i trust her again?
She's totally ignoring your feelings. Tell her you don't appreciate her telling other people something you've told her in confidence. She's just being an attention-hog. I wouldn't put up with it.

Hey all I am a 15/f.
Ever since I started watching the T.V show Grey's Anatomy I have been kind of attacted to Kate Walsh (Addison). It's not in a (very)sexual way though, I guess I kind of admire her. But, it is more then that though because I don't want to be her, howeve,r I would like to meet her. I guess I look at her as kind of a mother- figure, because I am not all that close with my mom.
Kate Walsh is not the frist woman that I have felt this way about. I has been the same way with people that I know in person as well, like my middle-school counsoler (as well as a few other people).
So I guess I am not really sure what I am asking for, I guess I want to know if this is this werid? Would You call it a girl crush? Just Kind of helping me clarify my feelings would be great.
Thanks!
Yep, it's a little girl crush. Women have them all the time. But it's different from what a crush on the opposite sex would be like.
Having a girl crush is like when you really want to be a persons friend. You like spending time with them but you're not close enough for your own satisfaction so you develop a crush.
I've had a few of those with a few girls. I end up becoming friends with them and then my "crush" fades away and they become a normal friend.
Just remember that tv characters aren't at all the same as the actors that play them. Don't have your heart set on something that will disappoint you in the end.

okay, long version short:
theres this guy that i like and before winter break i was asking everyone for their numbers (i had over 20 so it wasn't personal or anything) and i asked for his and he said "i don't know" and so i took that as a clue to back off a little because before the number incident, he flirted with me like a lot so i often went to his lunch table for like 3min to talk to him and stuff. and then after the number incident, i was like hmm, maybe i'm suffocating him in some way or another. and now we've "grown distant" haha i guess. like i barely go to his table now but i still talk to him and stuff. but like i walk really slowly from lunch to my class hoping that he'll come up and put his arms around me (he does that often). and last week i went over to his table and he gave me one of those really strong bear hugs. and i love his hugs!! haha but i'm like resisting all temptations to run up to him everytime i see him.
but anywhos my question is...by going to his lunch table and going up to him when i see him (i don't see him much. just at lunch and RARELY another time other than lunch) often, does that seem clingy? if it does, what should i do to like be next to him but not seem clingy?
It seems fine unless you're going up to him every time you see him. Once in a while just smile or ignore him altogether and go on doing what you're doing.
A lot of guys love the chase. And what are they supposed to chase when you're under their nose all the time?

So as usual I was rambling to one of my friends and he like out of no where decided to mention that day after the recital...After a violin recital, i was packing up my violin and this guy who was like 50 (his little son plays violin too) came up to me and started caressing my arm going "That was really really good. That was fantastic." blah blah and I'm standing thinking "WTF GET THE H*** OFF ME!" (it took place for like a minute of him touching my arm and ew) and then my other friend who just now heard of that incident was like "Oh remember that one time. We were at the gas station (her dad needed to put gas in the car)." and I was like oh yeah...and this story goes: She was like, "Don't look to your left." and of course, me with my curiosity look to my left and there are two guys checking me out with one of them being the other guys DAD. And I was like erm...can we go now when they like smiled and winked at me. And my OTHER friend was like "HA, older guys are attracted to you." and i was like hmm...that seems partially true considering this dude working at a store was smiling and looking at me the whole time.
has this happened to anyone before and the thought that older guys are attracted to you go across anyone's head...?
14/f btw and I do not enjoy having 40yr olds checkin me out.
Yes, old men do look at younger women. That's how people like Anna Nicole Smith become famous. If someone really old is checking you out, just ignore it unless they try to sexually assault you.
You also have to realize that not all of these men are attracted to you. A lot of older citizens are just, well, nicer than our generation. They might just smile at you to be friendly. Don't always make a disgusted face. Just smile back and walk away.

Do girl prefer it when a guy doesn't show his boxers..or does (but not in that oh-my-god-half my-arse-is-hanging-out way). and do girls prefer designer or not *-).
NO, do NOT let your boxers hang out. That is so tacky.
I personally love Joe Boxer. Just because the ads are so cute. I love their line of different types of smiley faces. CK is ok too but honestly, unless you look like a Calvin Klein model, don't try to show off the fact that you're wearing CKs.

If a guy was just using you for sex, would the guy actually makeout with you and kiss you?Or would he avoid it?
Yes, he's more likely to makeout with you than to have a conversation or say your name.

Guys how much do you think about having sex on a scale of 1-10 everday
Someone told me a few years ago that guys think about sex at least once every hour. I asked a few guys and they said it was true for the most part unless they're doing something that occupies most of their brain like when they're taking a test or playing a basketball game.

My boyfriend wants to finger me. I don't really care if he does or not but I'm just nervous because I never got fingered before.
I shave down there but i don't shave the whole area I leave the middle. From a girl's point of view do you guys shave the whole thing and if yes, step by step direcions would be helpful.
Also where the thighs sorta begin (near the vagina area) should I shave that too? Please don't tell me "do whatever is comfortable for you
Also I'm still a virgin so is there a chance while he's fingering me, my cherry could pop? If it does what do I do at that moment?.
I sometimes shave the entire thing off but sometimes I leave a "landing strip".
To take it all off, I first trim all of it with scissors (be very careful, I once cut myself and it was so painful). I put shaving cream where the hair is, but I'm careful to not let any get inside. I shave in all four directions because the hair doesn't grow one way.
I don't think you need to take all of it off. Just shave your thighs, and the front part. You can leave some near the opening.
Seriously though, he won't care. Guys are so happy you're actually letting them touch you, nothing else matters as long as you don't smell really bad.
Your cherry shouldn't pop unless he's finger-banging you in your vagina and I'd stop there if he was trying to do that.
But before you do any of that, please make sure to think about what you're doing and how you feel about him. Is he the only one who wants to get physical with you or do you feel the same too? Also remember to make sure he washes his hands before he does anything and set limits before you start fooling around, i.e. he can't take his pants off.

that was an answer from an indian boy.
a girl was asking how to make your hair longer.
SO IS IT TRUE? DOES IT REALLLLY? WORK? SHOULD I TRY IT? WHERE CAN I GET COCONUT OILS? COZ I cant FIND IT ANYWHERE!

HOW DO I CUT BAMNGS LIKE THIS?::
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n106/glessyx3/bangs.jpg
Yes, I'm brown too and all my aunts love putting almond oil on our scalps. I never asked why though, it might be for growth. All I know is that it made my hair way healthier.
What you need to do is, warm the oil up (not too hot though) and apply it to your scalp with your fingertips. Massage it in, wrap your hair in a towel and let it soak in for about half an hour.
Then shampoo it out. It might take a few shampoos to get it all out if you put too much in though.
This website shows you how to cut blunt bangs (which is what the picture is showing). But, you should get them cut by a stylist. That way, you won't screw up and have to wait for them to grow out:

You can usually find it at any grocery store. Check the oil aisle. It'll prolly be sitting next to the coconut oil and other specialty oils. You might even luck out and find some in the hair section. You could also use hair products -containing- almond oil.

what color was lindsays hair in mean girls? what brand should i use to get that hair and oh i have blackbrownishreddish hair so please tell me the number of the brand box lol thanjks
It was a nice red that sometimes looked like a darker chesnuty-red. She probably changed it a few times over the movie.
If you hair is dark, I HIGHLY recommend getting it done by a professional. I'd never screw around with my own hair.
If you can't afford it, you need to bleach it out first with a nice bleach, try Herbal Essences. Then go look for a red colour, try L'oreal. I dye my girlfriend's hair with Opaque Brown and it comes out looking lovely.

how can i get hair THAT BOUNCY like dat? [watch the last part especially her hair starts bouncing when she touches it and moves]
anything i can use/do?
please help me i have been longing for beautiful bouncy hairr =(
Get layers cut all over, especially near the crown of your head. Apply lots of mousse. Blow dry with a round brush in sections and flick it outwards and in. Twirls a few pieces around your fingers while they're hot to make your hair a little wavy. Secure with a ton of volumizing hairspray. I love Bed Head's Hard Head for this, but hair gets kinda scrunchy so make sure you've perfected your look before you spray.

It ranges above $15 to about $25 in CAD. Not sure about American.

I'm going on a flight tomorrow and I'm curious as to how big Southwest's seats are. I'm not in first class, I imagine we have coach seats but I don't travel often and I find most airplane seats to be a bit uncomfortable and not having enough room. Can someone tell me how Southwest's seats are? Thanks!
My cousin flew Southwest coach and said it was pretty much the same as any other airline except the attendants were more friendly.
Honestly, I can only stand coach for up to three hours and then I'm ready to shoot myself in the face.
If you're traveling for up to four hours, you can make yourself busy sitting upright but coach seats are horrible to sleep on. If I'm forced to fly coach for more than four hours, I'll usually sit in my seat for a bit and then about an hours into the flight, I'll look for two or three unoccupied seats that I can stretch out on.
You should also try to score seats near the front of your section. Those ones are better spaced out than at the back of the plane which are crammed when they try to fit more seats in.
I've never personally asked for one but I've had a few of my friends ask for upgrades and get bumped up to first class. Before getting your boarding pass, arrive early, smile politely, dress nicely and ask if there is any chance of an upgrade. But I'd honestly rather pay for the seat than have to dress up in a suit or something for ten hours.

16/f. My boyfriend writes music and he's pretty good at it. However, one of his more recent songs was pretty disturbing-- it was about another girl, a girl "see around school". He's never written a song for me before.
he assures me that it means nothing, that is was the only thing he could think of (that worries me in itself) at the moment, and that he wants to be with me not her.
Should I believe him? Is this any real cause for concern? Because it's really hurting me, I don't want to leave him but I'm starting to think maybe I should.
Honestly, in all probability, it's nothing.
I write poetry and it's about a lot of random stuff. I write about death and being in love, even though I haven't been in love for a while and no one close to me has died. I pick up on movies, other songs and things that people say to make my poems.
You should also look at the context of the rest of his songs. Are they usual about everyday events? Another possibility is that he is recalling the days when you hadn't started going out yet.

Everyone tells me this kid likes me, but when it comes to seeing if people like me or not, I can never ever tell!
Here are some signs --
*He calls me twice a day.
*He talks about how he misses what we had.
*He always says we should hang out
*Hes called me pretty 3 times, in the past like.. maybe week tops?
*He asked if I'd ever makeout with him... lol?
*He always tries to help me with things.
*He drops like everything, just to talk to me on the phone type thing..
& alot of other stuff.. I just can't seem to think of it right now. =/ but, trust me theres alot more.. thats just super recent. & some of the other things, I don't know how to put it.
Anyways, what do you think? Does he just want to be my friend? or more...
By the way.. I won't rate you low, if you think he doesn't like me or something.. I want you to be completely honest.
OH..& sorry if we're not allowed to say we rate at all? I thought it was just as long as we don't say we rate high...
kthanks in advance.
"He asked if I'd ever makeout with him"
Ummm -yes- he likes you.

Don't get him anything for PSP in case he already has the same game.
I'd recommend getting him a new CD or movie. Ask him siblings or parents about what type of music/movies he's into.

i may not be the most popular girl in school, but you could say im in that clique of girls. Theres this guy i like, & people say he likes me back & he was suppose to ask me out but then i guess didnt do it. I want to get his attention, i mean i always think i look ugly but people say im not. Is there anyway i can feel & look pretty to get this guys and maybe other peoples attention? please help me
Well, looking pretty isn't a lot about how you look. It's about how you feel about the way you look.
You could sport miniskirts and dye your hair blonde to attract him to you but then what will stop him from asking out the girl next to you who also has blonde hair and wears miniskirts?
My psychologist used to have me do this exericize when I had depression. I was supposed to look into the mirror every night and tell myself I was beatiful five times. Eventually, I started to believe it and that confidence showed on me every time I talked to someone. And it's funny because right after I got over my depression, I started attracting guys like flies.
It's just the way that you walk and talk that makes you different from everyone else. People who show confidence attract other people who want to feed off their confidence.
Corny phrase moment: beauty is only skin deep.

i don't know really how to say this seeing i've never datied the guy but everytime i see him with another girl i fell like my heart breaks......why is that i mean ik now i like him but i just don't understand why i fell that way. also i would do anything for him ANYTHING i don't know why though it confuses me.
Don't worry about it. You just have a really bad case of -the- crush. I've falled pretty hard a few times too.
Yes, you'll feel like dying for him but you need to tell yourself to keep a cool head and control your emotions.
Meanwhile, maybe you should go drop a few hints?

Alright, this kid Ive known for like, not even a year, is really confusing. At first, he was hooking up with my friend, then, he got a girlfriend, and then, we started hanging out. So then out of the blue he got a girlfriend and didn't talk to me for months. But of course after they break up he comes back and apologizes and everything? Me, STILL not over him even though he treated me like shit, accepted that and fell for him even more.
So then, we were fine, hooked up and everything, and then next day hes like, blahblahblah you were my rebound and I feel like an asshole blahblah, I dont want you to be that so give me awhile, and Im like, ohk well we already hooked up, so your going to just leave it at that and expect me not to feel like a rebound, and he was trying to be sweet about it and everything but I wouldnt give up and he said he didnt need/want me. So yeah I was really upset and the next night somehow things evened out and we were ohk, but now we're back to the oh I love you stuff. The thing is I really do love him and I dont know if he feels th same for me? Urg, i dont know.
I just need opinions, and what you think I should do. Thanks.
Run away. Run far far away.
This boy doesn't seem mature enough to have an actual relationship with anyone and you're just going to get into a vicious cycle of love and hate.
It'll hurt a lot to let him go and it'll take some time but you really should try to get over him or at least stay away from him till he grows up a little.

Hey everyone! My history teacher has put together a trip for some students to go to Italy over spring break. We are traveling with an organization called EF Tours, and they have our schedule planned out for our stay in Italy. It's a nine day trip and consists of both Italy and Greece and there will be a tour guide with us the entire time. I can't remember every place we are visiting in Italy but I know Rome is definitely one and Pompeii may be as well. I've read a few posts on msn forum and I'm really worried about pickpockets and the gypsy kids. I'm only 16 years old so I'm a kid myself, but I'm not sure what to say/do if someone were to approach me, especially a young kid. I guess overall I'm just worried about the trip period.
I've never traveled outside of the United States and I don't know what to expect. Another concern I have is my camera. Obviously I want to take pictures of the experience but I don't know what I would do should my camera be stolen. It's a top of the line camera and I don't want to leave it home because that would just be a waste. The whole reason I bought it was for Italy. I don't think I would have bought such a fancy camera had I known about pickpocketers.
Can anyone who has been to Italy before or atleast been out of the country and dealt with these problems give me tips on how to avoid getting my things stolen and how to avoid looking like a tourist and what to expect. If no one can, could someone point me in the direction of a website that can or a forum or something! Please! Thanks in advance!
I backpacked through Europe and there are a few ways you can protect yourself:
- When in Rome, dress like the Romans... and anywhere else you are. Don't go around wearing a Burberry Skirt and ankle boots if everyone else is wearing Levis and sneakers.
- Use a money bra or a money belt that you can wear under your clothes to store cash, cards, your passport and other important items in. Make sure this belt/bra is discreet under your clothing and not lumpy. Don't take money out of it in public. Go to a washroom stall or private location to take it out.
- Always make sure you know where you camera is at. Keep it in your hand in public places and loop the strap around you arm.
