Underage drinking experiences paper

Question Posted Friday September 14 2007, 11:51 am

I have to do a school project on a controversial/ethical subject and I wanted to choose something other than the death penalty or abortion. I have chosen to do underage drinking. As part of research for the project we have been asked to gather different points of view about the topic and I decided Advicenators would be an ideal place to get some of these opinions/experiences.

If you could take a few minutes to answer these questions/give any additional infomation then it would be very much appreciated.

Did you drink when you were underage? (I know that the legal age varies in different countries, so just go with whatever the legal age is where you are). If so, how often? Where and how did you obtain the alcohol? I'm focussing a large section of the paper on the use of fake ID/asking older friends etc to buy alcohol for you, so if you have any experiences with that, then please let me know in as much detail as possible.

Thank you.

I've had alcohol underage several times. Always at a friends house where their parents had made it readily available. I know it wasn't exactly what you were looking for, but here you have it anyway. Maybe focusing on irresponsible parents would be a good idea, the number of adults that will help/allow teens to obtain alcohol is appalling.

Im 17 soon to be 18... like in a few months, the drinking age were i live is 19... so i guess you could say that im an under ageg drinker.
I dot drink alot, mainly at partys but i dont get totaly waisted or annything like that, i just enjoy the occasional drink. I also drink wine with my parent or ather family members ( my family beeing french ) its almost normal i guess.
Usulay its my parent who give buy the alchol, my parents would rather know if i'm going to be drinking and what i'd be drinking, then me getting it from some guy or something behind their backs.
I find that most teens who drink can go a little over bord with it.
Oh( i just recently started drinking alchool besides wine this summer) so its not like my parents have been suplying me with stuff all my life, basicly after they caught me drinking the first time.
hope this helps

Disconnected answered Saturday September 15 2007, 2:17 pm:
I drink at concerts. The people at the bar at concert halls don't care what your age is as long as they make money. All I had to do is say ''Can I have a stella artois'' and they say sure, and give you the beer.

Also The suspicious 24/hr shops and so on, they sell anyone alcohol, as long as they make money, the don't care either.

I hope this helped somehow..?

Teza answered Friday September 14 2007, 7:30 pm:
I am underage & I do drink, but once in a while. Where I was born, there is no drinking age but since I live here, it's a lot harder to get acces of alcohol. I used to drink on the weekends but I've stoped that and now I hardly ever drink because I realized how stupid it can be. I mostly stoped because I saw how other people reacted and the things they were doing. I didn't want to end up like that. I obtained alcohol from older friends mostly and there was a time where my friends mom had gotten it for us. I have never used a fake ID and never planning on it but I do know a few people that have one and planed on getting one. It's not a very smart idea because most people can easily get caught with it. Good luck on your paper. :]

this isnt about me but its something that happened at my school and is still happening. almost a year ago.. on homecoming there was a huge party and there were kids of all ages there. anyways, they got the alcohol from a parent. a car full of boys drove home from the party they were going really fast and they crashed into a tree and two of them died. one was a senior and one was a freshman in college that came home for homecoming weekend. there have been 5 deaths of kids my schoool this year. 3 of them were related to alcohol. maybe you can include the consequences or something somewhere in your paper.

<3
hope i helped

sizzlinmandolin answered Friday September 14 2007, 2:13 pm:
I drank twice when I was underage (18 & 20). The first time was so little it wasn't even worth it. I regret having done it. The alcohol was given to me by other underage friends in their dorm room, located in our freshmen only college dorm. They obtained the alcohol from an older friend who purchased it legally. The second time was at a private party. The people there were ages 17-20, and the alcohol was purchased legally by the hostess' older sister.

One particular party I remember very clearly because of how the alcohol was obtained. My friend and I didn't drink, but everyone else did and alcohol was available and offered to us. EVERYONE at the party was underage and the alcohol was provided by the hostess' PARENTS. As much of and whatever anybody wanted. It was terrible. Not only that, but they had a swimming pool and someone almost drowned because they went to bed and didn't pay any attention to or care what we were doing.

I drank occasionally when I was underage. Nothing serious. Mostly wine and such at family dinners. An occasional party here and there.

Grazia answered Friday September 14 2007, 12:14 pm:
Yes I did drink underage
About twice/three times a week, whenever I went out at night
I obtained it from nightclubs since they allowed anyone able to get in unrestricted access to alcohol
I never needed a fake ID, as they dont check it in shops.

Hope to have been useful! =)
