If you already know your schedule, and what your classes are, then what you bring is pretty self explanatory. I know I have three classes this first semester, so i'm bringing three binders, three packs of paper, a pack of pens and pencils, a calculator, and dividers. If you need anything else, your teachers will let you know on the first day. (Bring a little notebook or something with you to jot down what you will need)
2. It's really up to you. My freshman and sophomore year I brought just a regular backback, but this year I bought this messenger bag: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location);
3. It depends on how big your school is. Mine is fairly small, and I did have a hard time finding my classes. I would just ask a teacher I seen, or a friend I knew in the hallways.
4. I've always ate my lunch at school. To much of a hassle to pack a bag.
5. Sit with the first person you see, or make a friend earlier in the day, and be like "you want to eat lunch together tonight.
6. Are you a druggie? If not, what makes you think everyone else in there will be? Don't be so stereotypical.
Igotamonopoly answered Sunday July 22 2007, 3:46 pm: 1. It really depends. See, our school doesn't have books at school, so few people bring more than a binder and pens, pencils, etc. I'd say bring a notebook, pens and pencils, and a purse, and go from there with what the teachers say you need.
2. Messenger bags make people lopsided. I'd say a backpack.
3. It REALLY depends here. Our school is very systematic, and so I found everything okay. I'd suggest asking your first teacher for help if you need it, or anyone that looks really nice.
4. I'd bring something, AND bring money. Before the upperclassmen can leave for lunch (forst month of school), we have 3,000 kids on campus...and like 10 lines. So, if EVERYONE is buying, then stash the lunch you bought and buy something.
5. Meet someone in a class before lunch and ask if you can sit with them at lunch. Be honest and say that you don't really know anybody. They'll probably say yes. If not, ask someone else in a different class.
6. No.
7. Ours are in the same order every day, but I know of a bunch of schools in which the schedules rotate. That is something you should call and ask.
helpndapeople answered Sunday July 22 2007, 12:56 pm: OK first of all carry a Nike bag. Bring a notebook of course but a note book that you put pictures in the front so you can put your schedule so you can look at it right before you go to your next class. Don't be shy on the first day talk to people. Talk to the person next to you in all your classes but don't talk to much or you'll get in trouble. For english bring a pen english teachers hate pencils. when lunch comes just try to get to a table that is like half empty on the first day and sit on the empty part. A remediate class is a class with like extra help and the teachers explain things better. All semesters of high school are the same unless you have a class that is half your. Then you only take that class for two semesters. This should help becuase i'll be a junior this up coming year and i should know by now. Just don't have a book bag that looks like your hiking. First day carry a Nike bag. If you have textbooks that you have to carry everyday then get a bigger bookbag. [ helpndapeople's advice column | Ask helpndapeople A Question ]
orphans answered Saturday July 21 2007, 11:26 pm: - don't bring too much because you don't wanna look like an overpacked-and-ready-to-go-loser. nobody really knows what they need on the first day, so they don't bring much at all. basic school supplies, a few notebooks in a backpack.
- at my school, we use backpacks.
- yeah, i walked through my schedule.. it's easy. tip: on the first day, find someone that has the next class with you and follow them the next day.
- buy it. only losers bring it. plus, it's fun to stand in line and talk to people. if you don't get to eat, so what.. you'll just be a cool lol.
- you don't know anybody? umm, wow. sit with your friends...
- eh, yeah, but it's okay. because they get kinda strict teachers for those classes, so they keep the drugheads under control. but in those classes you get to slack off and have fun.
- yep yep!
anything else? just ask. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
Solemnstar answered Saturday July 21 2007, 10:13 pm: Ah the first day of highschool. it was alot easier for me because alot fo my friends came to the school I went to.
On the first day, Bring anything you'll need for classes. Pencils, Paper, pens, calculator, Ruler. you won't need them, but they make you look good to the teachers, and trust me, if they like you, they mark a bit easier on you.
But on my first day, we only met our Homeroom teachers.
I would have some sort of bag to carry around with you, to make yourself look organized.
Lunch is all up to you, what ever you like, on my first day, they gave us a BBQ, but i dunno what other schools are like.
Sit in an area that makes you feel comfortable. If you want to make friends. you haev to talk to them. Be friendly, polite, but don't stick to the sidelines. Get involved! Thats jsut a good tip for enjoying highscool in general. put some really interest into whatever you do, don't jstu sit around and get thigsn done jsut to get them done.
I took the lowest level of math My school offers too. and jsut like in anyclass, you find all sorts, if you don't like the group of kids, It's jsut one class and i would'nt worry about it. You'll find kids who care nothign abotu school and thats why they are there, or good kids who jstu are'nt good at math.
at my school, there are 2 school days, so it goes 1,2,1,2,1,2,ect. day 1 is always the same, days 2 is always the same. if none of your classes are half credits, usually day one and two are the same. but it depends on the school.
Highschool is still just school. But you haev to work now, you HAVE to study, you have to really think abotu what you want after. There is'nt much time left. I'm going into 11. thats jsut this year and next one. and they years FLY right by. It's not long. Don't think for one minute "well, exams are at the end, i don't need to study now" cause you will seriosuly hrt yourself. it won't take much. jsut 10-15 minutes of each class each day. jsut to keep it fresh. write a sheet of ANYTHING that seems important for eahc class, and keep all the best info on jsut one or 2 pieces of paper. makes it alot easier.
Erinn_the_bamf answered Saturday July 21 2007, 9:36 pm: -Notebook, pens, pencils, and just something to carry that around in. You don't need much.
-It really doesn't matter. Whatever you prefer. If ou have a lot of books, I'd suggest a backpack.
-Depends on the school you go to. It's always confusing on your first day. However, people always seem to walk into the wrong classes, at least in my school. Also, people would be happy to help you.
-It doesn't matter whether you buy it or bring it. I usually buy food because I find it easier. If you have any food allergies a bagged lunch would probably be better on the first day, at least.
-Make new friends! Find a group of people that seem nice and ask if you can eat with them.
-Generally, no. Most people just have a little extra trouble. On the other hand, in my school you'll find a handful of druggies in any class that isn't honors. But most schools aren't like that.
mariahneu answered Saturday July 21 2007, 9:28 pm: On the first day, I'd bring the usual - pens, pencils, highlighters, notebooks, folders, binders, .etc. Usually schools send out a school supply list, so look at that to see what you have to bring to school.
I'd definitely recommend a backpack over a messenger bag. In high school you have to carry a lot more books and homework than you had to at middle school. For this reason, backpacks even out the weight so that you don't suffer back problems from the weight of your stuff just being put on one shoulder with a messenger bag...
Usually rooms that start with "2" are on the 2nd floor, "1" on the first floor. In high school you have to walk farther to get to your classes usually. Before your first day, I'd get a map of the inside of the school to find out where all of your classes will be and such.
I'd bring your lunch, or else you have to suffer through the cafeteria food, which is a real pain. Cafeteria food sucks. :P
Meet some people in your classes before lunch, then when you meet them ask if you want to sit at lunch together. I'm sure that you will be able to find at least one person in one of your classes that is friendly.
I can't tell you for sure, but I don't think so. If people are in remediate math, it's usually because math just isn't their best subject.
At most schools they are. Like at my school it's like clock work, sure the first week is hectic, trying to find your classes and all, but you will get used to it by the 2nd week, if not sooner. Usually you get a different schedule each semester, so that you get more variety and such.
orphans answered Saturday July 21 2007, 9:19 pm: -On the first day I would probably just bring like a notebook, a pen/pencil, and maybe a purse or totebag type thing just in case they give you stuff to take home.
-Whatever you want to carry around is ok. It's up to you but I think they'll let you carry either or. (I personally carry a backpack because I used to have messenger bags but they both broke from all the books, so if you get one, make sure it's good quality.)
-In my school it's easy to find my classes. I guess it depends on if your school is big or not. Check and see if your school has an orientation type of thing, that way you can look around to find ways to get to your classes. If they don't then maybe you could go a little earlier on your first day and look for your classes.
-For lunch, you can do either. They probably have lunches to buy though.
-Just sit at a table with some people you might like to be friends with. It really doesn't matter cause it's only your first day.
-Not all the kids in re mediate math are druggies. Some of them just haven't caught up or their schools didn't really teach math that well.
-It depends on your school and if you have block scheduling and stuff. But at my school we have the same classes in the same order until the next semester.
All in All don't worry. Teachers are there to help you if your lost so take advantage of that. Theres also the schools guidance counselor you can talk to. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]

Teenagerr answered Saturday July 21 2007, 9:08 pm: I'll be a senior next year, so I think I can help you out.
1] On your first day, you don't need to bring much. Teachers don't expect it or anything, so what I suggest to bring is just a pencil/pen, and a notebook. That way if the teacher tells you anything you need to rememmber, you can write it down.
2] You can bring a backpack if you'd like, but I wouldn't bother. It's just an extra thing to carry on a first day. I'd say to bring a purse [if you're a girl] and just keep what you need in there/with you.
3] Finding classes was difficult for me because my school consists of three buildings. It was hard, yeah, but I got used to it. If you need help on where to find things, ask any teacher you see. They like to stand in the halls to help you out & they're almost always nice about it.
4] I think you should bring your lunch. You never know what the lunches are like at your school and the majority of students [at my school, at least] bring lunch because it's easier.
5] If you really don't know anybody, look for a friendly face. If they seem like they're sitting alone or don't know anybody either, ask to sit with them. It doesn't hurt to do that. If you'd rather not do that because you're too shy, and have absolutely noone to sit with, I'd say to just walk around the school. Learn where everything is, and make friends the next day. It won't be hard to find people to sit with, but I used to think the exact same way as you do.
6] I dunno about "remediate" classes because my school doesn't have those. Sorry.
7] All schools are different about things like that. My schedule is weird and based on 7 days, so the classes aren't in the sme order or anything.
