I just read "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold-- it's really good, it's about a 14 year old girl who was raped and murdered, and her view from heaven on everything happening back on earth surrounding her death. The reactions of her family and friends, the search to find her murderer, her sister trying to move on.. Very sad, made me cry at least =/ [ beckyboo's advice column | Ask beckyboo A Question ]
Probabaly best book ive ever read. Its a huge hit. It's love, sad, happy, mysterious, everything you could want. Anddd theres a sequal, New Moon. And theres more books to the series coming out too! Honestly, read it and I think you'll like it.

Most of her books aren't really sad, but there are sad situations in a lot of them, like Dreamland, a book about abuse. My favorites by her are This Lullaby and The Truth About Forever.
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult is definitely a tearjerker. You should check that one out.
Also, you can try Go Ask Alice. It's the diary of a girl who gets into drug abuse.
Second Star to the Right by Deborah Hautzig
is about a girl with an eating disorder.
