FlipShawtii answered Thursday February 1 2007, 6:28 pm: SO glad you brought this up, i completely agree.
labels should be BANISHED, like FOREVER.
punks are punks, there's no way for you to actually "decribe them" as rebellious or whatever cause not all punks are the same.
emos [which is what i consider myself] DO NOT CUT THEMSELVES, atleast not ALL OF THEM. they just deal with emotions and they're all individuals, so nobody should assume that emo people cry and cry and cut and cut.
goths .. oohhh what the "preps" should be afraid of. whatever. goths don't even do anything to people, they're their own social group so y make fun of them or talk about them that oh they worship the devil cause they always wear black, as if! and nobody who's goth DARES to enter HOT TOPIC because it's too ... GOOTTHHHH, it gets SO annoying when i hear people say that. ggrr.
preps are seen as preppy girls who are cheerleaders and live and breathe hollister, american eagle, mini skirts, and flip flops. i really hate that, cause when people ask me do u shop at hollister and i say yes they assume i'm a prep .. wow, that's really sad how people just jump to conclusions like that.
ghetto and gangsta, once again another label. when people see you rock nike and jordans they immediately think that you're ghetto and rap every word you say.
labels exist so there's nothing i can do about it. but i do have to admit that i consider myself to be categorized in those labels but not just one. i think i'm emo and ghetto but i don't really care. i could wake up one day and wear vans and enties. the next day i could rock jordans for all i care, and when people see that, they get the impression of you as a wannabe punk or a wannabe ghetto person which is CRAP i tell you.
Shortcake22 answered Thursday February 1 2007, 12:21 pm: You don't even know how much I agree with you. I don't like to be summed up in one word, I think it's quite insulting.
Punks are really rebellious. They dress really crazy and have crazy, extreme hair.
Goths are the all black, black hair black nails, 'scary' makeup. Big black pants that have chains, all that jazz. If they wear any color besides black, it's red, or dark purple.
Emos are sort of like goths, but they wear color too, and they are more 'pretty' and they are more whiney. They are associated with cutting. Their hair is a big deal to them.
There's also something called Scene. It's really similar to Emo, except they dress in neon colors along with black, wear bows in their hair, like dinosaurs and ninja turtles. But some people just call Scene people Emo. Some get them confused. [ Shortcake22's advice column | Ask Shortcake22 A Question ]
christina answered Thursday February 1 2007, 11:22 am: People are idiots. They get some sort of pleasure out of putting someone down just because of the way they dress, or because of the music they listen to. Just ignore it. People are always going to do it, and hate will always be apart of the world. And nobody can say that they don't hate anyone because everyone dislikes someone to the point of hatred. Even Ghandi & MLK Jr hated people whether they'd like to admit to it or not. Too bad they can't. Ghandi hated the people that made him suffer, and MLK Jr. hated the people that told what he could & could not do because of his skin color.
Punk is just a type of music, & "punk" kids usually go by the music to make the style.
Emo is another type of music which means emotional. "Emo" kids are just the people who show their emotions more & wear their hearts on their sleeves.
And goth was just a time period, and the style emerged.
But if it happens again, ask them what the hell they get out of it when they put somebody else down for what music they listen to, or what clothes they wear. See the response. But no matter what, hatred/labels will always be around & there's nothing anyone can do to stop it.
kenidean answered Thursday February 1 2007, 10:24 am: Hate is apart of the world. Most people make rude comments about other people because they feel bad about themselves. If they contridict the way somebody else looks, it makes them feel bigger, better. I try to catch myself everytime I make fun of someone, and think of what it would be like if that person had called me "fat, stupid, or ugly" People shouldn't be put into groups or be labeled. Next time somebody does something like that ask them, "Do you feel better now? Putting someone else down just so you can make yourself seem better then they are?" See how they respond. Wheeler answered Thursday February 1 2007, 10:19 am: everyone judges people, it just how we are it's in our nature if somebody saw me they'd probably say i'm emo because i wear band tee's and dark makeup. it's more like what suits you if what you wear but people who dont know you label you. labeling is how people are, we cant change it. not everybody has the same opinion as you do sorry to say but you cant be something your not. punk; are like they usually have mohawks and they do knit its basically a music genre thats turned into reality they die their hair weird colors they wear studs and they have lip rings. their like emo but calmer.
goth; all black, heavy makeup, they usually wear dark colors to, most are satan and also wear heavy makeup like the punks, black lipstick listen to gore, metal.
emo; most of them are told to cut themselves, emos are very emotional and get depression easily. they dont brag like 'oh i'm emo, hahaha look at me' thats poser. emos are silent they dont brag we mind our business you mind yours that how we go. usually we wear bright makeup, skinny jeans shop at hot topic pacsun +etc. we listen to metal, rock, punk/rock, indie, pop(sometimes), never EVER country. we liek originality we dress in comfort, thats all. caramella answered Thursday February 1 2007, 5:18 am: That just the way the world is now.Everyone judges everyone by the way they look. And in order to live with all this hate that people feel with eachother is to completly ignore what other say about you or think. You know who you are and what you are so why should others opinions matter if its mean?Im arabian and trust me,i no longer care about all the shit people say about us.
punk is a culture that started in the 70's thats kinda similar to its music, its about being yourself and the way they express anger. Its no longer a real culture, punk people nowadays are just the remains of punk people before. Its not just a style of clothing, its a way of living. Its people that want to be different in some way,but a real punk never says he is,you can just tell.
Emo is also a genre of music that has unenthusiastic music and people singin in it usually sing about past relationships, broken hearts and rough experiences they had,and again the music is like the culture.
Goth people arent always depressed, suicidal people by the way. They just like dressing in dark clothes, and listening to heavy metal and theyre just like other people but have a different way of living and because they dont hang out with the popular people, theyre considered to be "gothic losers"
Hope this helped [ caramella's advice column | Ask caramella A Question ]
LagunaBabe answered Thursday February 1 2007, 1:42 am: This is the question I ask myself, on a daily basis. And I still haven't understood why people label others, anymore than I did yesterday. I'm not sure if I ever will, or you either. Because I think you almost have to be in that position, and feel that way, to label others and understand it all. Or a psychologist. And being as you are wondering "why?" you must not be that kind of person.
I'm glad someone else feels the same as I do, because a lot of people seem to be so superficial, these days. No matter where you are, or who you are. Someone has to judge you, and they always do. And in my opinion, with the media's influence, and the human nature of some people, they always will judge. Of course, in some manner, I believe we all judge. Only some take it further than others.
Hopefully, one day it will at least get better. Anything could be better than the way it is, right now.
And to answer your questions --
Punk: "a type of rock-'n'-roll, reaching its peak in the late 1970s and characterized by loud, insistent music and abusive or violent protest lyrics, and whose performers and followers are distinguished by extremes of dress and socially defiant behavior."
Goth: "noting or pertaining to a style of literature characterized by a gloomy setting, grotesque, mysterious, or violent events, and an atmosphere of degeneration and decay." All of this is translated into their style.
Emo: "pertaining to or involving emotion or the emotions."
ductape_n_roses answered Thursday February 1 2007, 12:02 am: I know, it's very sad. Society has yet agian found ways to divide and seperate everyone.
I guess people need a sense of belonging to a certain group and need "closure" as to where they stand in the social groups.
They relate certain things to certain labels and automatcially if you like a certain thing, you belong in a certain group and it's like "you're forbidden to interact with another gorup"
There are many reasons why people label others but my guess is that people just need to know where they fit in...they feel the need to fit in to feel satisfied "knowing" where they stand.. [ ductape_n_roses's advice column | Ask ductape_n_roses A Question ]

Laf16 answered Wednesday January 31 2007, 11:31 pm: im sorry... i know that hurts.. people just try to make themselves look better by putting down others (but really it makes them worse).. they think they are funny and say hurtful things.. the best thing you could do would be to set an example of the exact opposite of that and be friends w/ anyone and not say anything bad about anyone.. and hopfully you will make a difference to a couple of people.. but i dont really know waht the difference is between punk, goth, and emo.. im sorry.. basically people will respect the fact that you dont like the way people sterotype others and will probably try some self evaluation on themselves.. so just stand up for what u believe in :) [ Laf16's advice column | Ask Laf16 A Question ]
