Anoyingggg typinggg. I was just wondering why on instant messaging and on this site (actually alot on the internet) people type like this:
"Heyy whatsss upp??" or "I needd advicee aboutt myy boyfrienddddd."
They usually dont add like alot of letters except on IM though. I can understand why people shorten words, so they can type less, but why would people make themselves seem dumb by adding the last letter of a word 2-10 times? Is it like a trend, or am I missing some kind of secret? Thanks.

I usually use proper english and I rarely abbreviate words but I do add letters on. I do it to add emphasis. Instead of a thousand exclamation points I'll say "it was SOOO bad!" or "it was awesomeeee!" I avoid using it more than one in an IM tho, thats annoying, I agree. <3 ]
Sometimes I do it because it looks like a joke. Sounds confusing, I know. AH, the pshychology of AIM. Its weird..but I catch myself going "youre so pretttyyyyy." Because its basically a way to drag out speach, making it less serious. So, if they get offended, you can just play it off like you were kidding. I tend to add more letters because it distracts the person from the actual word. People do it when they want to say something, but they hesitate to say it, becuase they dont know if it sounds right. So, preeeettyyy sounds more like a friendly joke than just saying, "You're pretty." Everyone has their own reasons. :] ]
I hate when people do it like that, like all the time. but sometimes, if i want to add emphasis on what I'm saying like.. "Omg! your so prettyy, girl!" but I wont use it for everything. Or sometimes when you type "haha" on like AIM or something, if its really funny instead of like "hahahahaha" it will be like "ahahahhaaa" or etc. idk.. i guess its sort of a trend? one of my friends was doing it, then it just grew on me, and i use it occasionally too. but i control it, and its not great to be doing it all the time, since its darn annoying. you dont have to do it tho. ]
hey, well i dont type like that on here. i only type like that on i/m because its just easier for me. its not because im trying to be like half of the world. ]
I may be a blatant jerk for saying this, but it shows, to me, a lack of intelligence. It shows that they don't care how they present themselves to others. Period.
I shorten words and misspell and use bad grammar when I IM, but other than that, I try to use proper english and am obsessed with spell checking for mistakes.
I guess I just try to set an example, and prove that yes, english class has a point. I learned something while I was there. (Oh, Mrs. Barnhart would be so proud of me :D)
If that is some sort of trend or weird typing fashion statement, I am at a loss as to why. How cool is it to scream to others "lookit me! I am'n't 2 bryte, hows bout u?" ]
yeah, it annoys me too. i think its just something people like to do. not really a trend, even though a lot of preppy people do it (not to be stereotypical). it does get really annoying trying to the words though. lol.
i suppose its just a way of being like OMGz SARRAAAHHHHHH.. like..yelling it or whining or whatever. ]
Hun, it's a scary world out there...people just think it looks cool. If I were you I wouldn't get into the habit of doing that! ]
