BackInAction answered Saturday January 6 2007, 1:37 pm: It's a VERY painless procedure in which the doctor performing the abortion is given a sharp medical instrument likened to that of a scissors or a prison shank, and forcefully inserts the instrument into the vagina. Upon entry into the vagina the cervix is soon located, but wait just a second, during normal childbirth the cervix would have been naturally dilated 10 cm's allowing for smooth flowing baby transportation-- but because this is an abortion, the walls of the cervix must be cut open (rougly 30 cm) to allow successful baby slaughtering. Once through the cervix the baby may be located. Two clamps must be placed on either end of the vaginal walls to keep it open (this is a necessary step, for if the vaginal walls contracted the baby would forever be sealed in the womb of the mother.) The baby is eliminated in which ever method the doctor see's fit, and the procedure is done. This is all topped off very professionally with a lolli-pop and a random goodie from a "Mystery Box." It is to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, but if you are already pregnant..it will NOT harm the existing fetus. Sorry. I thought I should correct that. Nallie answered Saturday January 6 2007, 9:20 am: It's not a stupid question: Abortion can be preformed in two different ways. This would depend on several factors, but the most common deciding factor is how far along the pregnancy is.
There is what is known as a medical abortion, anesthesia would not be given, but pain medication would be. The female is given a medication that causes the uterus to expel the products of pregnancy.
In a surgical abortion anesthesia would be used, most likely a general anesthesia that would put the woman to sleep, but a spinal anesthetic could be given also. This would just numb the area below the waistline, but the woman would be awake.
In a surgical abortion either a solution is introduced into the uterus to cause the demise of the fetus and then a vacuum is used to empty the contents, and/or a surgical instrument is used to scrape and clean the pregnancy from the uterine walls.
In any case, yes there is some pain involved. Usually some moderate cramping and bleeding which can last for several days. Most women can return to work or school within three days post procedure, but this would be up to each doctor and how well he/she expects her to recover.
khadiya answered Saturday January 6 2007, 5:28 am: that abortion pil stuff....never heard of it. except for plan b.
Yes they use anestetics. They do an ultrasound to make sure your not that far along. (partail birth is actually illegal in most states.) They do indeed kill the embryo. then tey pull it out.
NOW if its a partial birth, they will put a hole in the baby's skull. suck all the brains out with a vacuum so the skull will collapse, then they take something and pull it out.
AMYGWENDOLiNExO answered Saturday January 6 2007, 2:29 am: Depending on which abortion a woman decides to take is really different.
There`s the abortion pill, which usually works 92% of the time. Where the woman takes it in the hospital room and the next time she has a period she bleeds EXCESSIVELY.
The other abortion which works 100% of the time, is where the vagina is maimed, so the tube is able to fit into the vagina. It`s very different also depending on what week the abortion is held on. If it`s dealt with early on, it won`t be AS BAD as it would be like 6 months into the pregnancy.
