Hair on your back

Question Posted Saturday December 2 2006, 9:38 am

Is it normal for girls to have hair on their back and front like men? My sister's only 11 and she has hair everywhere but when I see girls at the beach they don't have hair (And I looked really close at the blonds because their hair is see through). My friend doesn't think so but just to be sure.

You have nothing to worry about. It is PERFECTLY normal. Some of the answers saying 'that is not normal!' are obviously stupid. My parents are from Russia, but I was born here. I have some hair on my back and like at the very top of my arms. I also have it on my lower back. If it's bothering her a lot, just bleach it so it goes to blonde, or a lighter color. I stay out in the sun a lot, so some of my hair turns blonde when I'm out in the sun for a long time [I love to go to the beach].

Hope I helped. :]]

Everyone has peach fuzz pretty much everywhere on their body. Maybe some people more than others but everyone has it.

Usually girls with darker hair have hair that shows up more, so maybe talk to your Mom and see what she thinks if your still worried its not supposed to be there but my advice would be not to worry about. Shes probably starting puberty right now and going through an awkward stage.
Goodluck.

Some of these answers disgust me and want to make me seriously slap the people who gave advice across the face.

It's normal. Hair is normal. Hair is more noticable when it's dark, that's all. I have some in these regions, and if it bothers her enough--yes, she can get rid of it by many ways listed already.

People in American put so much pressure on being "beautiful", which, many times, means having no body hair what-so-ever. In some foreign countries, hair is found sexy.

At the beach, I'm sure at least one girl there normally has hair on her back or stumoch and waxes/shaves/whatevers it off before going. I don't want to be hair when I show a lot of skin either.

It's no big deal.

Its totally normal hun, although not common. Alot of girls..(especially ones of ethnicity) have darker and thicker hair on their bodies...as a waitress I see alot, although not on their bodies, but on their faces...many girls have moustaches and coarser hair under their chins, and I wouldnt doubt their backs and stomaches as well. When your sister gets older, she will probably feel embarased about this so there are some solutions...shaving being the quikest, although not the most convenient...but there is bleaching available and also lazer removal. I hope that I helped, let me know, and let me know how it goes with you girls!

Some darker haired girls have some hair on their back. It is normal.. a lot of girls have it from what I've seen. You'll always have hair there.. noticeable or not, just not as horrible as some guys. Some girls get happy trails.. some hair that goes up towards the bellybutton.

Really.. it is normal to get hair there.. People don't know what they are saying because it's not like you can see your back... and if you tried looking at others.. you can't get CLOSE enough to see the hair. When you're the person with the hair.. you see everything up and close.. it's like magnified. Like when you have a pimple or something, you make a big deal out of it, but really.. nobody can see it.. and you think everyone can.

It's also normal to get hair on the chest too. If you're dark haired and whatnot. Some blondes have some dark hairs too.

The girls at beaches.. wax and shave.. So you'll never see any hair on them. If I go to a beach.. I wouldn't want to be hairy. So yeah.

It's either waxing or shaving.. even though she's only 11. It's best to wait for her. You don't need to do anything for her back though.
If she has some hair on her stomach she doesn't like.. maybe shave it?

Obviously the hair is going to grow back and darker..
But really.. she's too young and it's not like she's wearing revealing clothes.. so in a few years you could help her.

its deff. not normal for girls to have hair on there back , and frount like MEN. men's hair is never like a girls. girls have hair on there back, everyone does, but it depends on your nationality on the color. im italian,so im tan,but my back hair and arm hair is light brown. if your sister has hair in the frount thats thick and long and noticable, then thats not normal.girls dont have a lot of hair in the frount at all. so maybe she should see a doctor and they could help her further.good luck

If she really is excessively hairy she could have something called Hirsutism. There are a few causes of this so I have included some websites to give you more information.
It can be dealt with in a number of ways depending on the severity. She would need to see a doctor to have this confirmed.
If she fits the descriptions you will need to talk to your mother about this so that a visit can be arranged. If however, she does not fit this pattern, it may just be how her body is going to be. But as I said, only a doctor will be able to tell for sure.
