ok so i had glasses for 3 years now and i REALLY want to get contacts. i went to the eye person and then he tried to put the contact in my eye but i didnt let him. this was a while ago. people tell me it takes hours for them to put them in.
idk if i still want them cause i hate that feeling of putting them in your eye and idk if its worth it.
is it ??? help me
all i can say is WOW!
WHAT A DIFERENCE IT MAKES.
when i wore glasses, no one ever took a second look at me as i wasnt attractive...but now..its like on myspace...picture comments are great! and people are like...oooh...you have a nice face (ignore the nose :))
not only do i feel more confident in my looks, but knowing that has actually made me more confident as a person., it sounds lame but contacts have fucking saved and changed my life!! i cant leave the house with out them...im that insecure about wearing glasses! :S
however, its not just about looking great, it feeling great too...and i do...put it this way, i have the kind of contacts which take a month or so to get used to because my prescription is so complex, and that means that i have to take them out every night and clean them thoroughly. mine cost £100 a pair (soft lenses are a lot cheaper)...(if you’re amaerican, thats about $160), which is expensive, and so i have to be extra careful not to lose one, as they can pop out if you play and pull around with your eyes!! And replacing them could take up to a week or longer.
i was determined to have contacts, and when i went for a session to see if my eyes were suitable for them or not, i was told “no”, then they told me to come back as they may be a chance i could handle it. i was so motivated, and look at me now... a whole different person!!
When they first put them on my eyes, it felt like i had 3 eyelashes floating around in there! When you are first wearing them your eyes will water, and you will blink more too. contacts are really uncomfortable at first, (but over time, your eyes adapt and they become normal once again, I sometimes forget I’m wearing mine!)
But, in the first 3 weeks they feel irritating, which is why you build up the amount of time you wear them daily, so you allow your eyes to adapt to them.
i started off at 30 mins a day, and then then an hour the next day and so on, and now i wear them on average of 16 - 18 hours a day!
i have the awful "gas- permeable" (hard) lenses, you will probability have the soft lenses, which means that if you do, they wont take long to get used to, they will be alot more comfortable, and you wont have to limit yourself as much.
by limiting i mean, in case of losing them, or causing damage to your eyes. For example, if you go swimming, i think you’re allowed to wear soft lenses in the water depending on which type they are, but hard lenses in water is a no- no as they wash out of your eyes!! Certain sports may not be wise, eg: football/rugby, soccer, lacrosse, basketball…depending on how rough they are…(good for me…im a lazy ass who doesn’t exercise …I hate sports hahaha)
also, to avoid getting an eye infection, you must be extremely hygienic whist handling and storing them...that means washing your hands alot!!
you were worried about the time it takes to insert the lenses? Well..yeah..at first it takes a long time, I can remember within the first week it took me as long as 45 mins (maybe longer) to do it. Partly because I was shit scared, and in the end I just thought “ooohhh…what the hell” and stuck them in! :). The more I wore them, the less time consuming they were, now it takes m no longer that 30 seconds to put them in!! no joke, its that simple!
im sure you’ll be fine, and remember, they’re not going to kill you or harm you so don’t let that stop the eye person inserting them into your eyes...they know what they are doing as they are professionals!!
i hope this has helped as i know exactly how you feel, and im giving you my personal advice to tell you how they’ve worked out for me!!
It may seem scary in the first stages, but I can promise you , and I swear on my life that it is worth it 110% !!
any more probs, message me! good luck, and I hope all goes well for you!
DancinCutie08 answered Thursday August 24 2006, 2:25 pm: Its worth it. I tried for 2 hours on 2 different occasions before i finally got it. If you want to practice just wash your hands and practice touching your eyes. it makes it so much easier. After you have contacts for a few monthes they will let you have day and nights. Thats what i have. You pop them in once and don't worry about them for up to a month. They are really nice [ DancinCutie08's advice column | Ask DancinCutie08 A Question ]
TEENAGExHEARTS answered Thursday August 24 2006, 12:57 pm: well the first thing you need to do is make sure that you can touch your eye. do this right now: stare straight ahead and then slowely try to touch your eye with your finger. make sure that your hands are very clean before you do this. if you can successfully touch your eye then your ready for contacts.
when i first got mine i was so scared! i had horrible thoughts of me losing them and so much more. when you first get them it will take you a long time to get them in and out of your eye. it took me about two weeks to get the hang of it. but now (almost a year later) it takes me about 3 seconds, literally, to get them in and out.

BecauseYouLivex3 answered Thursday August 24 2006, 12:24 pm: Ok so if you really wanna get rid of glasses then you should do it. Try out the contacts. & It doesnt take hours to put in. You just have to get use to it. The first time it may take over an hour or so but after you get use to them you'll be able to put them in like that. Okay well if you get them heres some tips because I have them.
- before you put them in clean them & when you take them out clean them .. it prevents germs & they last longer (if you get the disposable)
- you cant wear contacts for like 5 days then leave them for 2 days sitting in the soultion .. because next time you put them in .. it'll really hurt & your eyes will turn red.
- dont fall asleep in them. because if you do your eyes will turn red & hurt with them in. & Also at first it doesnt but the next time you put them in it will. But after you fall asleep you cant wear them for a few days.
It looks like alotta work but its not really alot. Its just you have to clean them alot. Because you cant put something dirty in your eyes. So it gets annoying sometimes. But let me tell you CONTACTS ARE TOTALLY WORTH iT ! Hope I helped <3 [ BecauseYouLivex3's advice column | Ask BecauseYouLivex3 A Question ]

x3trisha answered Thursday August 24 2006, 11:45 am: um i think you should at least try, practice putting somethign in your eyes with water drops, and since you really want to lose the glasses do it! but dont abandon those glasses for ever, just put the contacts in for school and wear ur glasses on the weekends or whatever you wnat, also dont forget to take them out at night! and you could also save up money, a lot of money and get treatment. xojennifer answered Thursday August 24 2006, 10:21 am: having contacts is worth it. i have contacts and i was scared to get them too. the first day of putting your contacts in and taking them out is the hardest. all first day things are the hardest. luckily, you get used to them after a couple of days.
xomegaroni answered Thursday August 24 2006, 9:18 am: ugh, i know what you mean. it took me forever to learn, but once you get it, its so easy! its not a problem anymore & its totally worth it. just keep trying.
