Highschool horror

Question Posted Sunday July 16 2006, 9:33 pm

Okay, so, im 15, and im going into my first year at high school. Its summer and there is this soar program (summer school basically) the introduces me into algebra. The thing is, I am like majorly terrified! what will high school be like once the year starts? will the people be nice? the school is like a maze, im gonna get lost for sure, I am so scatter brained! What should do? Does any one have advice for starting the school year or surviving the treacherous mayhem of algebra and puzzling world I am now cursed with?

High school is soo fun. Don't stress about it. Algebra is one of the funnest classes I've taken. I'm not the brightest student, and I got a 98 in it! Very easy, just pay attention in class.

People are nice, except the gangsters: AVOID THEM.

Teachers understand that you will get lost. And it isn't a possibility, it's a certainty: you will get lost. Even planning out where you'll go for each period won't solve the "maze" in your school. You'll get used to it though, because everyone does! :)

Someone else said that you should study as much as you can. Don't listen to that. If you study 2 days before a test and the day before a test, you'll do fine. I have crammed for so many tests and pulled numerous all-nighters in the past, and I still managed to get an A or B on them.

Good luck!

highschool isn't anything.
people are going to try and freak you out,but the truth is,it's really no different.
you will probably like it better, actually.
the first year of highschool, you usually get caught up in friends, and relationships and all that,so just try to remember to pay attention to school work.
if you pay attention in algebra,it's a breeze.
highschool isn't all that bad,.trust me.
just don't fall for it when an upperclassmen tries to sell you a "pool card" or an "elevator card" it's bullcrap.
:]]]
good luck.

hi-even though im 13 and going into eight grade, it was hard to get into middle school. my school is like a maze and i got lost but then i got used to it. also, everyone else your age is going to go through it too. you aren't they only one. next year im going to go through it. also i took algebra in 6th and 7th grade and it isn't that hard. also everyone did algebra in kindergarten when they do 2+2. algebra is just a fancy way of saying math. you have experience in it, but you know now. i hope i helped.

Hey,
I started high school the same age has you. Believe me is nothing people try to freak you out. Is almost the same thing as middle school but the only thing that is different is that the school is bigger. When you go you are going to love it. And by the way you will meet a lot of different people and you will get to know yourself better

I hope this helps

i started high school when i was 14
i was really nervous but high school isnt all that bad
just be yourself and dont worry much about your image
because when people worry about their image they tend to change who they are
now in septemeber i will become a sophomore
high school its great
algebra its not that bad
i did algebra in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade and i love it
just dont make anything get you down

I'm 14 in the 9th grade, so this is my first year of high school too. Dont be afraid or paranoid. Algebra sn't too hard, i took it in 7th and 8th grade. My school is like a maze too. Dont be nervous, no one else knows what they are doing, either. The people are more mature than in junior high school kids so i guess they may be nicer and more open minded. just chill. everybody is a freshmen at one point in their life.

I know how you feel! The night before my first day of High School I didn't sleep AT ALL! I was so nervous, eventhough I had taken a tour of the school, and then went to visit the school after I had a copy of my schedule to find where all my classes were!

All I can say is try to relax and remember that everyone has a first day of High School, and everyone is nervous! Taking a map of the school with you (they should have these in the office) until you are acclimated with where your classes are, is always a good idea. If you still can't find your way, I'm sure teachers and other students will be happy to help you.

As for algebra, if you are feeling confused by the work itself, I'm sure your teacher would be happy to recommend a tutor, or other means of extra help. Not to sound like a major geek, but algebra can be kind of fun! It's like solving a puzzle!

I'm sure you'll do just fine!

You have absolutely NOTHING to worry about. a lot of people worry when they go to high school. Most likely you are going to be going to the same one as most of your friends anyways. Teachers are so nice, and it's not as hard as your grade school teachers say it is. You also adapt to the changes really fast, before you know it, you'll be giving this advice to someone else. It's a FUN TIME. You'll love it!!!

I know it seems like a HUGE deal, and really it is, but you will adjust. Chances are, the "upperclassmen" will not be overly nice. You will probably get lost the first few days, but everyone does. My advice to you is to get a buddy. Someone who can either show you around, or at least get lost with you if nothing else.

Once the school year starts there will be a lot of homework. Just make sure you study as much as possible - don't be a slacker or it'll only come back to bite you in the rear. The teachers will help you with learning your algebra. Algebra will be the least of your worries. Try to enjoy the whole experience. It's over too fast.
