clearlypink428 answered Wednesday June 21 2006, 4:50 pm: nope. at least not under my beliefs. i believe that being homosexual is all in the temptation of your mind, and there is no way you are just born gay, therefore- no- you cannot be gay if you dont want to be. Asc answered Wednesday June 21 2006, 4:13 am: FYI - the rating system works with 5 meaning good, and 1 meaning bad. You might want to revise the 'gay is a choice' guy's rating.
Unless you think he's a lone voice of truth, I suppose.
EDIT: guess so. Why ask when you've already made up your mind?
As for the actual topic, I can personally confirm that sexual orientation is not a choice. If it was I'd be bi; and I'm straight, so it isn't. Isn't empirical evidence nice? [ Asc's advice column | Ask Asc A Question ]
Alin75 answered Tuesday June 20 2006, 5:52 pm: Normally I dont answer a question that already has so many replies. Only doing this since I read that answer in the middle talking about it being a choice.
Being gay is no more a choice than being straight. Your sexual orientation, whether or not it has anything to do with genetics or with your environment, is hardly a decision you make.
I am appalled when people come up with stuff like that. I am straight, and there is no way that I could ever "turn gay" (though it is interesting to note that anyone who claims that it is a choice is inadvertently saying that they could in fact turn gay).
No one knows for sure how a human's sexual orientation evolves. There could be many factors that contribute to it, and in time we may learn what they are. However it is hardly a conscious decision, like choosing what colour shirt to wear, or what cereal to eat. [ Alin75's advice column | Ask Alin75 A Question ]
alisonmarie answered Tuesday June 20 2006, 4:45 pm: Yes, just as you can be white if you don't want to. People are born with their sexuality, and society makes it difficult for people who may be gay to accept themselves.
This doesn't change their sexuality, though, and it can often take time for them to be comfortable and accepting of themselves. This is normal, though also painful and confusing.
Is there anyone you feel you can trust to talk to about this? If not, there are lots of informative websites out there that can address your concerns about sexuality. If you don't want others using your computer to possibly see where you've been looking, remember to clear your history.
Cj answered Tuesday June 20 2006, 4:23 pm: No you can't. Being Gay is a choice, no matter what Oprah says. There is no way you can be gay if you don't want to be. [ Cj's advice column | Ask Cj A Question ]
tasuki answered Tuesday June 20 2006, 4:14 pm: Yep. With all the controversy around it, I don't think that anybody would choose to be gay. It's like your eye color--you can't change it. [ tasuki's advice column | Ask tasuki A Question ]
rainbowcherrie answered Tuesday June 20 2006, 4:08 pm: Of course you can. A lot of the time when people first realise that they are homosexual, they wish they weren't. But you should always accept who you are and learn to love yourself no matter what. [ rainbowcherrie's advice column | Ask rainbowcherrie A Question ]
