im 14 and ive been straightening my hair since like 12 1/2. so its been like 2 years kinda.. well like what hair straightening does.. it fried my hair. and i also blow dry it every day.. and its REALLY bad, like its poofy and its like dry.. but once i straighten it it looks kinda healthy, and not so poofy. so i was wondering what could i do to get my hair back to healthy.. you dont understand how POOFY it gets when i get out of the shower.. so if i like blowdried my hair on cool(not the high heat, like cold heat) and not straighten it as much, would that help? what things could i do so it will become healthy again? and im sorry its so long, but i will rate!
honestXmiistake answered Monday June 19 2006, 4:38 pm: Use a good moisturizing conditioner and make sure your hair straightener is a ceramic one. also use a heat protecting spray. i use got2b Crazy Sleek Hot Smooth Flat Iron & Blow Dry Lotion . it works well.. hope everything works out for you. beachpeach answered Monday June 19 2006, 3:53 am: I know exactly how your hair is! Mine is the exact same way! If I don't put it up right after a shower or straigten it, its just a mess! Try using a hair straighener with engatively charged ions to help prevent split ends (Metrapolis and Chi are GREAT). Then you should start using a shampoo and conditioner like Pantene Restoratives. They also make a strengthening spray (for fine hair) and creme(for thick hair) for damp hair! A deep conditioner or hair mask twice a week would also help. ImNotAPerfectGrl answered Sunday June 18 2006, 11:16 pm: One thing you could do it make sure you use conditioner and then get the kind that you can leave in so yout hair is getting alot of nutrients and you might one to take a short break from staightning, and if that doesnt work you should go to the hair place and ask them what they think is best to do. Hope i helped bye.

ContinuationSoda answered Sunday June 18 2006, 11:02 pm: ok! well i suggest using hot oil made by suave. you can by it at walmart for 1.99. its a great at home system to healthy hair. another thing, make sure you always use conditioner. that makes a huge difference! and to get the split ends to go away, get a haircut.
blow drying your hair on cool will help. or just let it air dry. try to use one every other day instead of both everyday. you could even get a wet2straight straightener. they work really well, i have one myself,.
actresschica answered Sunday June 18 2006, 9:43 pm: First off, if you straighten while your hair is wet, you will FRY it. (I'm 14 too and I've done this...NOT fun.) Secondly, don't straighten and blowdry. Pick one...Try blowdrying straight down to unpoofify it. Have your mother, aunt, or older sister help out. If nothing's working, go to a hairstylist (just the person who cuts it.) Ask them questions before they wet it, so they can see what you're talking about. Good luck-hope I helped! BeautifulEEbr0kn answered Sunday June 18 2006, 9:11 pm: Well, my hair used to be the same way and still kind of is. My hair is also poofy once I get out of the shower and it starts to dry and when I blow dry it. I also straighten it a lot as well.
Good ceramic straighteners tend to work better, and not dry your hair out as much. I used to have a cheap one from walmart and it really dried out my hair. But then i saved up my money and bought a CHI. The best cermaic one you can buy, and it doesn't damage your hair as bad.
Also, you can buy conditioners that you leave in for awhile, and it's like a deep moisturizing thing, and cutting your hair and getting it thinned out also helps to keep it healthier.
You can also try not blow drying it, let it air dry and then straighten it, that way you're not adding as much heat to it. =D
hopeihelped answered Sunday June 18 2006, 8:35 pm: Well, you could try using shampoos that put tons of moisture in.. I don't mean to be racist, but there are some shampoos that are meant for black people and they have chemical relaxers in them. It should soften your hair. Also, make sure that you use a straightening gel. Pureology has a great straightening gel. Use it when you straighten AND blowdry. I put mine in my wet hair and then blow dry it, and then straighten. My hair is a whole lot less poofy because of that.
There are also these things called hair masks.. like a facial for your hair! They're sold at Kmart (or I know they used to be. Haven't been there for years!) and they're just these one-time use packages and you leave them in for a certain amount of time.. I don't know if they work, I've never used them. But it's just an idea.
SUP_TINAA answered Sunday June 18 2006, 8:31 pm: Well, for starters, you could cut down on blow drying. After getting out of the shower, just air dry your hair. It takes 2-4 hours but it's worth it. I straighten my hair too. My hairs naturally straight but it has a few waves in it. Try using BioSilk. It silkens out your hair and give the extra "umph". Along with that, try using a Ceramic hair straightener because it doesnt burn and mess up your hair. Be more concerned with your scalp, rather than your hair. If you blow dry your hair, and the blowdryer is hot, then not only are you burning your hair, but your burning your scalp (which can lead to balding). Maybe you could start putting your hair up in a pony tail. If its really "POOFY" then stick with the BioSilk. It'll help relax your hair. [ SUP_TINAA's advice column | Ask SUP_TINAA A Question ]
