How come whenever I run, I get a cramp like on my side.. usually on my right side.. I know they're not menstrual cramps, because they feel way different.. but idk, I've had them for a while, and I think it's a common problem among people.. but does ANYBODY know what they're caused by? And how to prevent them? I also get them when I walk alot sometimes.. but especially when I run on bumpy ground, at softball for example. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks! Oh websites are great too =] Thanks again! ♥
beachhun101 answered Thursday April 13 2006, 5:23 pm: i get the same. its just your body defense mechanism of making you realize that its hard work for your body. dont stop running it doesnt help, just slowly walk it out or keep jogging slowly. Also what really helps is holding your hands high above your head while your running. another thing that works for me is that wherever i have the cramp, i squeeze that side while im running. for some reason it works!
hope it works out.

When you get a cramp lean over to the oppisite side that is cramping,(that will strech out the muscle)

ok well i think its caused by taking in lots of air at once but i'm not really sure.
but i am sure on how to prevent it---
before you go and run, spread your legs into a comfy position and then bed over toward your left to streach the mussle and then you should be better.
smcheerleadingx answered Thursday April 13 2006, 3:37 pm: i agree with the other people who posted a comment about what they are. i have some advice on how you can treat them when you're walking or running (my moms a doctor).
if you get a side stitch clasp both of your hands on your head and try stretching. if it still hurts, you have to get some water or sit down.
DancinCutie08 answered Thursday April 13 2006, 3:07 pm: alot of people get them from dehydration or eating before they run.. try drinking atleast 8-16 oz of water 30 mins before you run and keep drinking as you run.
karenR answered Thursday April 13 2006, 2:56 pm: It is called a side stitch. This web site tells you how to avoid them. There were lots of others
to be had too. If you don't care for this one I will let you know how I got it. :)
