hair straightening

Question Posted Friday March 31 2006, 3:33 pm

sorry i didn't know what catagory to put this in.

ok i'm 13 and i just got a straightener. i heard that if you use it too much your hair gets really dry and it's unhealthy...so for people that straighten your hair...how many times would be too much? like how many times could you straighten your hair in a week without it becoming unhealthy? thx!

I straighten my hair everyday; lets just say I regret that. I have so many damaged hairs, split ends, and broken hairs/fly aways now its insane. However, a couple times a week isn't that bad. I recommend getting a thermal heat protectant spray. Your local drug store should have many to choose; I heard that the CHI Ion Spray really helps protect your hair.

Try and find sme other cute things to do with your hair to avoid having to straighten it everyday <3

i have a friend who straightens her hair every single day and her hair is still beautiful! and shes been doing this for a loong time.. i do think that it frys your hair though so maybe dont do it that much.. you can also try scrunching your hair so that you can wear it down more often instead of having it up all the time =]

yes it is true that if you straighten it too much it can get dry and the hair does eventually break off.

you should use a ceramic straightener to reduce breakage of the hair those are the best.

as well as that you should use a spray that has silicone in it because it takes the heat away from your hair but at the same time it straightens your hair.

i straighten my hair everyday.

everybodys hair is going to get dry sometime.

adding heat will increase it.

especially if you blow dry right before you use it.

moisturizing shampoo and conditioner work.
i recomend Mane & Tail.
yes i know its a horse shampoo.
but on it, it says: FOR HUMAN USE.

i use it and it has dome wonders for my hair.

and also heat protection you spray on works to but if you use to much it will your hair look greasy and clean.

getting it trimmed even now and then helps to because it cuts off the dead ends and reduses frizz.

it depends on your hair.
i straighten mine twice a day sometimes and its still fine. if you do it alot buy a shampoo/conditioner that helps with moisture and damaged hair!

I use mine almost everyday. Yea its pretty bad for your hair but if you make sure you use the right hair products and stuff its okay. Like every month or so i do a hot oil treatment and that helps it from drying out and stuff.

Alright. I use my hair straightener once a day, but not on all parts of my hair. Since i started using it, I've used a really good moisture shampoo and i use a heat glide cerum thats heat activated. If you do use your's everyday, only do the front and top layers. I personally havent noticed any difference but I'm really careful, my straightener is ceramic, and my hair is really thick. Depending on your straightener/hair type .. i think you'll be fine. HopeIHelped&+GoodLuck!; <p>&ROXiE;

EDIT::******************************

sorry i thought gets was gels im kind of out of it! its not really how many times a week you straighten it as it is for as long as you do it.. like ive straightened my hair everyday for the past 2 years or so and i say its not to dried out. as long as you keep your hair properly conditioned and get it cut regularly doing everyday shouldnt do to much damage.. but it depends on the straighter. like i use helen or troy. If you are truely worried don't do it more than 2 or 4 times a week.

its hard to answer this because it depends on your hair. like straighter hair would take it better than curly hair etc. if you can give me your hair type and whatever i can try to help you more

It depends on what type of hair you have and how long and thick it is. It is true that the heat can damage your hair, but it does it over a long period of time. You won't see damage until at least 2 months. So keep straightening you hair if you want to, but don't do it EVERY day. Maybe 2 or 3 times a week

it can be unhealthy if you are not protecting your hair. by something to protect your hair, like a heat protection spray. i straighten my hair everyday but when i first got my straightener i didnt use a heat protective spray and now i have split ends...and you can straighten it as many times a week as you want. &hearts;danielle
