Question Posted Saturday February 18 2006, 2:14 am

hey
I was wondering, how come everyone all of a sudden hates preps?
Like my friends and I were at the movies tonight. And i hate labeling myself but im deffinetely in the prep catogory. And all these punk emo girls were mocking us and and following us saying " like omg im like such a prep like omg" And all this other stuff. MY friends thought they were jelous but i dont know. Does anyone know why everyone doesnt like preps? Like on myspace people are posting bulletins saying " Wow i hate preps" and all this other stuff. Im just being myself, and who i am.
Does anyone know? thanks<3

Basically, punk/emo/goth/etc. people don't like preps because they're "nonconformists" by shopping at different places and listening to different music and things like that. Preps are "conformists" by wearing American Eagle, Hollister, A&F, etc. Since so many people wear that kind of stuff and act "preppy," they think that none of them are being true to themselves, which makes them (I'll refer to punks/emos/etc. as "nonconformists" now) resent preps.

I wish people would see that "labels" are such a stupid thing to judge people by. It's unfair and immature, what these girls did to you.

Just be youself. :oD

I hope I helped, and if you have any more questions, feel free to leave one in my inbox!

Dude, I didn't know preps were still around! I thought you guys all turned into emo. That's all emo seems to be anyways, it's a more sub-culture-ified version of preps. But, when it comes down to it, being against preps is just the new popular thing, because it represents being rebellious. Don't worry, once you get out of high school it all goes away. There are very few groups like that in college or the real world. By the way, being a prep doesn't have any specific requirements, it only has to do with how you dress. Same thing with most other parts of youth sub-culture. As a side note, preppy clothes are considered quite en vogue in the world of high fashion. It's mostly for novelty, though so I wouldn't feel too proud of it.

I've always disliked preppy people simply because they have a tendency to act superior to everyone. They are generally uncaring and materialistic. They also tend to be less fun than other people because they have to keep up their preppy appearances and not do things that might make people think they're weird. Find me a prep who would go urban exploring and I might change my opinion. Hope this helps.

I think the reason people don't like prep's is because preps are the rich kids who get whatever they want, they get the car because mommy and daddy pay for it and they get everything. Also preppy people usually are the ones who make fun of the punk rocker kids because they think that they arent cool enough. Preppy people are generally as a rule very stuck up. Punk rockers just don't care, but also all the preppy people are trying to act like OMG I love this band and like all of a sudden now the preppy ones are listening to punk rock music trying to be punk. I dont get it, but i dont like preps...

Face it. Preps are seen as the lying, stuck up, rich bitches. Not all preps are like that. Some are really nice, but some just don't fit that either, because they're WORSE. Preps always attack the emo, goth, punk kids because they wear black, and they get sick of it. So, they attack back, which was probably the case here. Although, when Boulevard Of Broken Dreams by Green Day came out, all the preppy girls I know, were all "OMG iM S000 PUNK, L00K AT MEEEE." And, I don't know, when people do that it's like, crossing territories. But, just ignore it. Next time it happens, don't say anything, just let it go, because you're being the bigger person by not saying anything. But as for the myspace thing, preps are attacked because they're usually the people who point out flaws, make fun of others, and talk a lot of shit. Don't take it personally, some people are just really judgemental.

Hi,

Preps are always seen as the: Stuck up, lying, rich girls. In some cases their not. I believe since "Mean Girls" came out people have been labeling themselves. Of couse it could have been from some other movie or some kind of music.

Green Day for example. Untill November of 2004 very few people knew the punk rock band. Well when Boulevard of Broken Dreams shot up thats when the world went crazy over them and that could have started the whole labeling thing also.

Me? I like Punk music. I do wear a lot of black clothes and I wear black eye liner. But that doesn't mean everytime I see a 'prep' on the street I run towards them and yell "Take This You Stupid Prep!! *Throws Red Paint*" Ever since I got into High School my friends started being Preps and I soon found new friends. But my old friends and I are still good friends.

So thats what I mean. When you see people out there making run of you just be like "Ewwww Their goth! Like omg I have to cut my wrist to look cool!" I am a more Punk-rock syle and I will even tell you that. Because those people are just being immature. So just ignore them or tell them off.

People assume that preps are really mean and stuck up. And it is true that alot of them are. At least the ones who go to my school. That doesn't mean that ALL of them are. I have a couple friends who are preppy and wear abercrombie but it doesn't bother me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Just ignore those jerks. Emo Posers are just as bad as stuck up people. If they bother you again, just say, "Don't you have anything better to do? Or are you that desperate?"

Hope I helped!

Well they probably aren't as accepting. So when they see someone that's not like them they feel like they have to make fun of them.

Continue to be yourself. Everyone isn't going to like you but there is nothing you can do about that.

It's because everyone's in to labeling now. It's really annoying. The deffnition of prep to everyone is: rich, snobby, popular, mean. Therefore, people assume every prep is like this which is not true. A lot of my friends are preps and obviously I don't hate them because they are my friends. Seriously, now-a-days you buy one Abercrombie shirt and you're a prep. Don't listen to people. Be who you are. There is nothing wrong with being a prep. Screw these born haters.

Because emo's are so pathetic they need to mock other people so they don't try and slitt their own wrists.

<3 to you too :)
I'm guessing you're in highschool, yes?
Preps and/or jocks used to be cool, but now they're losing ground. It's a stereotype, plain and simple. Preps are: Rich, Mean, Snobby, Overly-well dressed, They stick to their little cliqes and friend groups, they are popular, and decide who's popular and whos not.

Unfortunately, all you have to do is buy and wear "prep clothes" and you are automatically all those things... bummy eh? Even if you are a nice, sweet person, people from other cliqes will assume you aren't. Sucks i know...

The reason some people hate preps is because Preps are rich and they aren't. They hate preps because preps are popular and they aren't. People hate preps because they are mean. People hate preps because... pick a reason. People make assumptions. That's all there is to it.

I'm not a prep, because i don't wear gap or american eagle or whatever it is now.. and i'm not goth because i don't wear black, and i'm not emo beacuse i don't cut my hair at an angle... But i AM a dork, becasue i wear shirts with spiderman on them. I try NOT to let myself be stereotyped, but i am who i am, and people are going to make assumptions no matter WHAT i do...

So, what then?

Some emo's you can talk to and explain that you really are a nice person... Some emo's are so stubborn that Arnold Schwarzenegger couldn't pull thier head out of their butt with a crowbar. Sometimes you just have to let it go. Try and ignore them... Keep good friends close by, wrap them around you, and let the good times roll...

Hope that helps, and good luck!

hey...haha

well im gothic..and im always mocking preps and yes i do hate ..well not hate - strongly dislike them..

everybody has there own reasons..we mock preps..like they do us..always calling us freaks & saying shit about our clothes and the way we act and dress..and thinking there better than everyone else..

now im not saying you and your friends are like that..but most preps are..

there mostly rick snobby people who look down on others..well the people here do..thats why we//i make fun of them and strongly dislike them...

the preps out there might be different..you just have to understand where others are coming from

and next time someone is doing that..and they have no reason to be doing it..you should say something and stand up for yourself..thats all it takes...

hope i helped in anyway =]
