I'm 5'2" and weigh about 105 pounds. I am perfectly aware that I am NOT overweight. If anything, I am a few pounds underweight, and have no plans to lose weight. I have never been self concious about my weight.
Why do these girls who weigh even less than me and are taller than me insist on obsessing about losing weight!? Day after day I see these questions. "I weigh 50 pounds and am about 6 feet, am I fat like OMGZ?!?!" (Obvious exaggeration, you get the point.) What is wrong with everyone??... I don't want to hear that BS about "oh the media blah blah"... everyone blames EVERYTHING on the media. Why are all these little girls so freakin' impressionable?! I was never so impressionable to feel fat just because there was some anorexic model on the cover of some magazine. I think it's pathetic. Why are people like this?

smichele427 answered Saturday January 7 2006, 9:25 pm: They are damn right stupid! I am not anorexic... i actually eat a ton! I am 15, and i weigh 90 lbs. I just have a fast metabolism. I went to the doctor about a year ago because i had strep and he told me that if i dont start gaining weight that he would have to put me on medication and i would have to be put in a center to be monitored. It is heretic though that i have a fast metabolism. My father was as thin as i am when he was 15. But, i have no clue why people would WANT to be anorexic or bulimic. (besides to drop weight fast.) I hate being as thin as i am! w/e. thats just me!
PeppersRock answered Saturday January 7 2006, 8:47 pm: They think they need to be way skinny in order to impress a boy. I know how it is to be turned down because of certain things and it may be true that they want to be soooo skinny because they're either self conscious or really jealous of what others look like. I don't think its all that healthy and it is totally pointless. [ PeppersRock's advice column | Ask PeppersRock A Question ]
not_your_star34 answered Friday January 6 2006, 4:14 pm: The media is a reason, but it isn't the ONLY reason. Like you said, the media is not the only one to blame. :o)
Many of the reasons these itty bitty girls say "I'm sooo fat" is to get attention. They want people to say, "No you're aren't!" or "You're so skinny!" When people say things like then when skinny girls say "I'm fat," they're only fueling the fire, you know what I mean? Skinny girls will say that a lot so they can get reassurance that they aren't fat.
These girls may also be just plain insecure. Not all skinny girls have confidence. They might have problems at home, like parents who put down thier bodies (no matter how skinny they may be). Some girls might have been overweight in the past, and lost the weight, so they may still be obsessed with weight loss. You never know what they're past was like (Unless you've known them for a long time, and know them well), and you also never know what goes on behind closed doors.
Some girls want to please guys, or someone else, so they want to lose weight for that reason.
Skinny girls have insecurities, too. For some reason, some of them are obsessed with their weight. Why? Well, to summarize what I've just said, it depends on the person and their experiences.
MikeCFT answered Thursday January 5 2006, 11:35 pm: The media has a lot to do with it along with the person's background. Everytime you turn on MTV its a countdown of the hottest bodies of celebs and they ram it down everyone's throat. Our society is very vain, fast diets promise weight loss and a 6 pack, everything revolves around how beautiful someone is. People who have a tougher time with who they are and may have never been looked at as an attractive person in their life may experience more anxiety over their weight and appearance than those who are deemed attractive. Whether we want to admit it or not...we are always being influenced by the media, they tell us what to wear, what to drink and whats hot and whats not among other things. Most people try and assimilate into the culture and become one of the crowd because....you guessed it...the media crams all of it down the throats of Americans. DeadMemories answered Thursday January 5 2006, 10:34 pm: Hey,
I think the media has a Little something to do with it because when "Some" people see these big Mcdonalds commericals on with a big Juicy Hamburger and French Fries. What do they think? "Oh man That looks good! I think I'll go and get one of those!"
But on the other hand, the media has really nothing to do with it because, it's the people's fault for eating it. Some people are fat (like me) from their mother and dad, so basically its not really their fault. Its just passed down. Some people are just born lucky!
HOPLESSxROMNTC answered Thursday January 5 2006, 10:33 pm: Hormones. Hormones. Hormones.
All teenagers go through it, it is just a part of life. Its all of sorts of things that make girls want to bee so skinny; celeberities, edited magazine models, and all of your peers. All girls get their feelings hurt when a guy doesnt like them back and then he likes some super skinny blonde girl. The girl would then want to be like that girl and start going crazy and doing those stupid crash diets. Plus most of the time when girls go 'Oh my gosh Im so fat!' they are fishing for compliments so just try to ignore it.

beautifulcatastrophe answered Thursday January 5 2006, 9:01 pm: i agree. it is pathetic. but as much as we hate to admit it. media is part of the problem. not all of it though. your peers are a major influence. think about all these guys who your around who drool over this skinny large breasted girls and laugh at the people who may not look as great. that leads people to think that, even if they are miles from it, theyre fat. and it is pathetic, people should be more comfertable in their own skin and care less about what others think. but the fact is nobody doesnt care at all what others think..and these girls just need to be have more self respect.
&& i say go you if you dont care! it shouldnt be as important as people these days make it.
orphans answered Thursday January 5 2006, 8:42 pm: I dont think the media has much todo with it (I believe it partly influences it)
Some people dont as self concious as you do. Some people may truely believe they fat all on there own. so in order to them to "look good" loosing weight seems to be the "perfect solution". Not every body is as lucky as you to feel so concious about themselfs. [ orphans's advice column | Ask orphans A Question ]
