1. The pre frontal cortex of the brain (where rational thinking happens) is not completely developed in teen years, therefore they think they might be able to take the responsibility.

Teens are stubborn and they think that they are mature enough to have children because ain in our society you are seeing more and more younge people getting pregnant and yes SOME of those teens do go on to live regular lives and teens think that they have it all planned out and everything will be perfect.. Many teens do not think of the consiqunces of having a baby.. I think that our society that we live in today has a big affect on teens.. and teens that have children make there friends 'follow in there footsteps' and they have kids and the age of people having babys is decressing year by year and teens think they should have children
HOPLESSxROMNTC answered Thursday January 5 2006, 9:57 pm: First off I might add that most teens cannot handle parenthood but Ill tell you why they think they can. Stubborness really. Like when an adult tells us something we cant do it makes us want to do it even more right? Well when adults tell us we cant handle parenthood, its makes us think we can. And we want to proove that we can. Also most teenagers dont think about little details so they think it is easier then it really is. And like you said the closeness in age. Of course the kid of the teen is going to think its fun to have like a 20 something year old mom but what kids need is a stable home with a good family and not only a mom because the dad left after he was done. Sorry if this was not what you are looking for but I feel so bad for the kids lives that are ruined because their parents were young and had unprotected sex and it just messes up the kids life. Good luck on your paper though.

You're right, teens do feel like they can relate better to their child because of close age which is usually true since what their child is going through, they can help them out because they've probably been through it.
Teenager also believe that they are mature enough to face the challenges of parenthood because they think they're grown. It's like most of them (us teens-but I'm nowhere close to pregnancy) are extremely hard-headed and stubborn that they'll block out all the negative factors of getting pregnant at such a young age, and they'll have a child to prove everyone wrong who had doubts in them, and they'll fail at raising a child on their own anyway...which is why they get help from a parent, pregnancy home, etc. Teens also have children at young ages for someone to love them since they don't have love.

There for they will concentrate on those " little things " that they would have liked when they were a kid and give them to their children. They also understand a child's fears, wishes, wants and needs more because they do have a closeness in age.
A child and a mother with a closer age will most likeley get along better because they may be interested in a few of the same things. Also a teen will know about some of the current bad things going on in a city or town and be sure to keep their child out. An older adult may not be clued in about these acts such as where the big drug selling spot is or the local gang meeting place. This way the teenager could protect the child more.
