hello. im a muslim and ever since 9/11 i know there has been a lot of sterotypes on muslims. Very bad ones. i had a lot of racism especially during that year at which i was 10 years old. people would stare at me and my sisters and be like go back to your country. now i want to know what are peoples views on islam and muslims?
xx_Dreamer answered Tuesday January 24 2006, 7:45 pm: I actually have a friend who's family is muslim. I've learned a little about what they do and things as far as religion is concerned. I have no problem with Muslims. I mean, you can't judge all of them because of what happened. I don't agree with some of the things that they study, but that's about it. kailey answered Tuesday January 24 2006, 5:26 pm: I honestly don't know enough about Islam and Muslims to formulate an opinion. I believe that too many people are uneducated on the subject, which results in them being complete jackasses and telling you to "go back to your country". I've learned a bit about it from a distant friend & I'd be interested in learning more. I think some parts of the religion are simply bizarre, but that goes for any religion & I'd certainly never tell anyone to "go back to your country". himalayanlotus2003 answered Saturday January 7 2006, 11:33 am: any body who knows his/her religion will never do such activity of ill treatment. the world religion means journey towards inward. you can become truely religious only when you accept other person or not to hurt other beings by any way. let you evolve into a beautiful human being.like how mohammed said once, don't do things for others, which you will not like it if somebody does if for you. that is the path of religion. no people will view islam or something. but they will look up when a personn with great humanity , careing, reaching for other.only because of those people, religions are valued and not because of any religion people are valued [ himalayanlotus2003's advice column | Ask himalayanlotus2003 A Question ]

thewonderchef answered Wednesday January 4 2006, 10:19 pm: Since mostly everyone who answered chose to try and make you feel better about yourself and not tell you what people actually say, I will not insult you by doing the same. The disdain that you experience is born largely out of a lack of understanding about Islam and middle eastern culture. Islam is growing but is still not a "mainstream" thing here and until it becomes one, there will not be understanding. Most of America thinks that Muslims are just a bunch of desert dwelling suicide bombers who hate us when in reality that is only a very small percentage of actual Muslims. I have no problems with Muslims in general, but there are some that do horrible things in the name of Islam. Every religion has its fanatics. The best thing you can do is to prove that you don't fall under the stereotypes. Show the world that you're not what everyone believes you to be, then tell it to piss off. HectorJr answered Wednesday January 4 2006, 8:31 pm: No offence, but who cares what other people see you or others as. Are the certain opinions of people going to make you less of a person than you already are? Most certainly not. I have learned not to judge one group on the actions of a few. I know I would not like to be judged as a person because of the actions of a few in a particular group I belong to. Ever been to Europe or anywhere else outside of the U.S.? Not everyone knows it, and even some that do ignore it, but not everyone thinks so highly of the U.S. What are my views? Not too sure. Neutral. I don't know enough about the culture/religion or anything. Not that many people do, so I think that might just lead them on into thinking that its all bad. Hope things get better. karenR answered Wednesday January 4 2006, 8:22 pm: I'd like to think that most people judge people individually on their behavior and actions and not on what other members of any particular group might do.
No doubt there will be those who don't feel that way, which is sad.
By the way, I really don't think MSH deserves a 3 for giving you an opinion for which you asked for. It was a perfectly good opinion. And very true. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
